Dashboard Crack problems of the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 - part 2

Multiple, large , deep cracks in the dash of my 2000 Dodge ram. Defective material without any recalls on it from Dodge. Eventual holes will develop, which lead to other problems, and safety concerns.

Dodge dashboard cracked and disintegrated. 2000 Ram 1500 5. 2 liter. The whole dash fell apart. Safety issues are the sharp jagged razor sharp edges, and structural integrity of dash assembly. Function of air bag is in question. I took after market dash cover, used it for a mold and laid up a new dash with fiber glass. Will not purchase new/used dash board as the problem appears to be chronic, poor quality abs is the cause. Will not risk a repeat incident.

The dashboard of my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab has cracked in half twice. The first time happened after the dealership replaced the air conditioning evaporator. I paid 50% of the cost with them to replace it with a new dashboard. This new dashboard has now cracked in two places and the instrument bezel is cracking as well. I have heard that this is very common with 1995-2003 Dodge rams and it can cause electrical failures.

I purchased a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck in the summer of 2007. Since then it has developed large cracks in the dash and some of those cracks have led to big holes. On the outside it looks like a cosmetic problem, but in the event of an accident, it could pose a safety risk with pieces of dash flying everywhere. This is not an isolated complaint, I have found hundreds of others with the same problem from Chrysler/Dodge products.

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 lariame slt- dashboard is cracking in multiple pieces and looks as if will eventually come apart exposing vital internal electrical parts. I think that this faulty part and chyrsler needs to recall /replace these dashboards. The cost for labor is outrageous because of how parts were constructed. Air bag is located in the dashboard, I wonder if this will deploy or be damaged by the continuation of the cracking of the dashboard located surrounding and above it.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab sport model. It has a cracked dash. Inface, there are large holes exposing wiring. Chrysler says this in not a defect. And is not covered under warranty.

On my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 quad cab my dashboard started to crack and it created holes in the dashboard. Now, the dashboard was cracked all the way to the passenger airbag , and I was afraid that the airbag will rip upon deployment. Also, electrical failures; headad lights/tail lights/ dash lights and mirrors won't work once the heat got to the wires underneath the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracking and had a hole just above the instrument panel. The dealer stated that they could replace the dashboard but since there was no recall and the warranty had expired they would not repair it at no cost. The contact stated that due to the numerous complaints that the manufacturer should issue a recall. The failure mileage was 149,000.

The dash cover on my 2000 has cracked to the point there is virtually no cover left. The interior of the dash is exposed, what dash is left is jagged and sharp, and I shudder to think what might happen in an accident. Now, the instrument bezel has begun cracking, and the clips that attach it are gone - they are part of the now missing dash cover. The electrical wires behind the dash are exposed and the insulation has started to get brittle. The edges of the dash are jagged and pointed. The bezel interferes with driving the truck.

Excessive cracking of the dashboard and instrument cluster bezel material. Numerous cracks have developed completely through the materia, l leaving sharp edges exposed. Cracks first appeared in 2005. They quickly propagated throughout the entire dashboard and bezel area.

I purchased a used 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 in November 2006. At the time of purchase there were no visible defects. However, since that time the dash has cracked and collapsed almost entirely. The left front speaker and air conditioner no longer work. There was no impact or trauma that brought it on. It was at first a small crack on the passenger side that spread towards the driver side. We now have a gaping hole through middle and right side of dash with new cracks developing on the driver side.

I disagree, someone could be seriously injured by sharp plastic shrapnel during an airbag deployment. Mileage and warranty status of affected trucks should be irrelevant as this is a manufacturing defect.

This is a Dodge 1500 2000. I bought this used and it did have a hair crack in the dash. Within 6 months this hair crack turned into more than a dozen throughout the dash with the area of the vent starting to fall through. Could this be a hazard.

I paid out of pocket for a new dash panel that I have to install. Windshield has always had a shade in it, and almost never have products such as armor all or other interior products been used on it. For the record, I also have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500, with a perfect dash. 98-01 rams had the updated dashes that are the ones cracking on many people's vehicles.

Dashboard crack on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 series. Crack started small about 5 months ago and has now engulfed entire dash. Numerous cracks have developed unrelated to original crack. Dashboard is now ready to cave in. Cracks emanate over entire surface of dash from driver to passenger side.

(1) dash cracked premature (2) failure due to poor manufacturing resulted in cut to hand and torn sleeve. Possible tear to air bag if deployed. (3) Dodge has done nothing to repair this defect.

There was a news story on 5/1/07 about people's dash cracking and caving in on there 2001 Dodge ram trucks. I own a 2000 Dodge ram truck 1500 and have had the same issues with the dash cracking in several places. My father-in-law owns a 1999 Dodge 2500 and has the same problem. I would like to know if Dodge is aware of the problem and if the plan on having a recall to correct this problem.

Dashboard cracking and falling in. In approximately late 2006, my dashboard developed minor cracks. Soon the cracks got larger until pieces started falling into the dash cavity. I went to my Dodge dealer with the concern about a recall, but there were no recalls for this symptom. Dodge said it would pay 1/2 of the repair, a total of about $2,000 of which I would have to pay about $1,000. I could not afford this at the time. Since then, the dash has continued to crumble apart. Now, the air conditioner unit has a hole in the evaporator core. To repair this, the dash would have to be removed. You can imagine, the dash would be removed in pieces. I believe the crumbling dash has caused the hole in the evaporator core. Dodge should replace the dash and replace the evaporator core too. What's next? the heater core, electrical components, headlights on a dark back road somewhere? Dodge needs to take care of it's customers.

Upper dashboard is cracking. The first crack appeared in 2004 and has since increased in size to 6". The second major crack appeared in may 2006 and has split to 7". The second split goes right into the airbag enclosure.
