37 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2007

After filling gas tank full, engine dies when braking and turning a corner (losing steering) and coming to a stop. Starts back up fine, but stalls again on next low speed braking or turning a corner. Very similar to other accounts that I have read. I've had new plugs and O2 sensors costing mucho for zero result. When this occurs slowing down to make a slow turn, I have to throw it up to neutral to restart. Once I threw it in park going slowly, but it was dangerous to screech to a halt with a car behind me almost rear ended me. I've been told the same crap by dealers about this and I know they are playing dumb. The only remedy that I use for this is similar to others which is just don't fill it all the way up unless you are getting right out on the highway to run those speeds and not be stopping. I can't let others drive my truck unless I make sure that the tank is below three quarters of a tank. I can't believe that there's not a quick and dirty fix for this. Seems like you should disable emissions devices in the interest of safety.

38 Car Stall problem

41 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

Truck stalled when turning a corner. Had to accelerate through the corner and after I released the accelerator the truck died without any indicator lights. I put it in neutral and started it and drove off.

42 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2006

Truck started stalling a few weeks ago for my wife. I finally had the chance to drive it and it fell flat on its face. My entire family was almost put into a telephone pole at 45 mph since the truck lost all power. This time it didn't stall it just ran with no acceleration and held at 4,000 rpms. Extensive attempts for cooperation by dealership and daimler Chrysler have led me to believe I bought a really expensive coffin. I established the TSB codes w/ both and was left hansen high and dry. I got that " sure we'll help, here' s a new truck but we can't pay off yours even though we sold it to you. " and the" we're not responsible for this even though we acknowledge the problem is our fault. " I will not purchase a Dodge vehicle again. Shame on Dodge!!!! I don't really blame the dealership, but they themselves should have checked all this with the truck before selling it to me. Daimler Chrysler representatives who decided this isn't a problem should be made should be punished by law to drive these faulty vehicles until they are injured or killed. Maybe then these problems will be repaired.

43 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2006

2004, Dodge Ram 1500, 5. 7l. Truck will sometimes stall while slowing for a stop or turn. Had the TSB 18-013-05a done by the dealer and the problem still exists. This is a dangerous problem especially into turns because the vehicle loses its power steering.

44 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2006

: the contact stated the vehicle stalled without warning while idling and while traveling various speeds. The vehicle restarted soon after stalling. The vehicle had to be towed to a dealership who determined the problem could not be duplicated.

45 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2006

Traveling at 40 mph truck started to shake. It then stalled out on a slow-braking turn. Had to limp home and then to garage using one foot on brake and one on gas to keep the rpms up. Initial diagnosis was a stuck air valve that made the fuel mixture too rich. Several cylinders were missing. It turned out that two valve springs were broken. Apparently this is pretty common. A lot of valve springs are being sold in the area. The truck had 73k miles on it and of course the warranty ran out at 70k. Defective valve springs costing a couple of bucks cost me over $1000 in repairs. I was lucky that the block wasn't damaged. For a while we thought we needed a new engine.

46 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2006

I was driving my 2004 Dodge ram 5. 7 liter hemi pick-up truck home from work on 03-02-06 and was making a right hand turn I was probably going about 20 miles per hr. And the truck just stalled out I almost hit the car in the opposing lane because there was no power so the brakes were at a loss and so was the steering I'm glad I wasn't going any faster than that.

47 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2005

Stalling 2004 Dodge hemi sport---stalls upon breaking or coasting at an intersection. Brakes make high pitch ringing noise everytime but dealer says it has nothing to do with the other. Been in 4 times for repair, CO-pilot installed to try to retrieve alternative pictures of system since no codes were sent during shut down. Dealer could not repeat stalling, nor could they retrieve any info with CO-pilot. Now Chrysler has informed the dealer they are not to touch my vehicle any more for this issue since they can not repeat the stalling themselves. Now I'm waiting to meet with the regional manager of Chrysler to discuss buy back.

48 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2005

2004 Dodge ram pick up, stalling problems. Happens to me when I come to a stop. Seems to be on very hot days for some reason, but not every time. Dealer attempted fix with Chrysler download program and failed. Back again for second attempt, now we are in test mode.

49 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2005

The consumer stated that the vehicle stalled unexpectedly. This happened while sitting still and just recently while driving at a speed of 15 mph. There was no prior warning before stalling, and no dashboard lights came on to indicate a problem. No lights on the dashboard came on after stalling. The vehicle will immediately start right back up. This happened for six months at least. The idle was jumping. The consumer thought that the idling and stalling problems were related. The vehicle had idle problems since January 21, 2004. The vehicle had been to the dealership three times, and was on the way back to the dealership. The dealership could not find any problem with the truck because it was intermittent. The manufacturer was contacted, and referred the customer back to the dealership. Also, the manufacturer told the consumer that this problem belonged to the dealer. (11/08/05).

50 Car Stall problem

While driving the vehicle suddenly stalled. The cause of this was undetermined.

51 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2004

: the contact stated while driving under normal conditions and at any speed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 6 occasions for this problem. The first 3 times the vehicle was inspected, the problem could not be duplicated. On the fourth time the pcm, map sensor and the ngc controller were replaced. This corrected the problem for only a short period of time. The stalling returned and the vehicle was taken back for inspection two more times however, no repairs were made. There is also a problem with the transmission, it has been overhauled 2 times and the vehicle is still having engine hesitation problems. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 5 times due to the abs. When the brakes were applied the rear end of the vehicle pulsates. No repairs were made to the abs and the manufacturer was alerted.

52 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2004

My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5. 7 hemi motor stalls when approahing a stop. Does not happen every time, but fairly regular. It always comes as a suprise, rpms drop to @ 400, engine vibrates and stops. It always starts right up. It does it when hot or cold, but more when cold. Many times the rpms just drop, engine vibrates a little and stays running. Dealer had truck 3 times, first two they found no problem, even that I video taped the conditions while driving, 3rd time they admit there is a problem, but do not know how to fix it. Today, it is in the dealership for the 4th time for the same thing. I explained it might have to do with the transmission not down shifting right on stopping, as shortly after I had a transmission sending unit replaced, right after purchase, it started acting this way.

53 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2004

When driving down a decline at any speed the vehicle stalled without warning. As a result the vehicle was left with no power. The consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership on two separate occasions but the problem recurred. Please provide any additional information.

Failure Date: 04/29/2004

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 slt quad cab 5. 7 v8 hemi- 1003 miles on vehicle the first time it stalled while driving. No "check engine" light comes on and dealer unable to duplicate problem. Has happened 4 times within 8 months. No power steering when stalls and almost crossed into opposing traffic lane the 2nd occurence. Major safety hazzard issue!!! Chrysler not responding to buyback request.

55 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2004

2004 Dodge 1500 quad cab hemi - stalled while taking an exit ramp from the highway. Had it for two week with 524 miles on it. I see that this was a complaint before from someone, but my dealer claims they never heard of this. However they can't look at it for several days - I told them I thought this was a safety issue, but didn't seem to matter. Not a good situation trying to control a truck with no power steeering.

56 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2004

Vehicle stalled in varying conditions. Stalled/stopped at stop light 3 times. Coasting down hill 3 times 60 + mph. Accelerating up hill 4 times at 60 + mph. Driving from stop with wheels turned af full lock 2 times. Also stalled after starting up or when put into reverse 2 times.

58 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2004

I was approaching a road that I was going to make a right turn on, after traveling on a highway at approximately 60 mph. When I had slowed enough to start to make my turn, the truck stalled without warning and I had to complete the turn without power steering to avoid hitting a car waiting to turn at the light. I am a fairly big guy and made the turn without incident but had to really pull on the steering wheel to turn it. If my wife had been driving she would not have been able to make the turn. This happened when the truck had approximately 500 to 1000 miles on it. It never stalled again since then. The truck now has 12000 miles on it.

59 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2003

This happen to me three times the first time December 2003 two months after I got the vehicle. The second time it happened June 2004, and the third time it happened September 2004. The first time it happened. I was driving down the highway in 4 wheel drive high about 30 to 35 mph when the truck stalled. I had no indication that it stalled except for loss of power steering. The second time this happened I was driving down a gravel road about 35 to 40mph. I was coming up on a curve in the road, and the vehicle stalled again. Again I lost power steering, and came close to going into the ditch with my 1 year old boy. The third time this happened I was stopped at a stop light when the vehicle stalled. I have taken the vehicle in twice for this, and the dealership said the computer in the engine probrably just reset itself, and there is nothing they can do about it. I have written a letter to Dodge, and sent it in with their survey after the last incident, and haven't heard back.
