I was driving to work that morning traveling about 40 into the city when all of a sudden I heard a loud noise, I barely could handle the steering wheel to coast it to the side before it came to a complete hault, I look out my window and my drive shaft broke in 2 pieces was passing me on the main road. Front end was on the side shoulder, back end was out in the road. I jumped out of the truck and grabbed up both ends of my drive shafts and put in the back of my 04 Dodge ram truck, then started directing traffic on this busy road of morning commuters. Fluid was everywhere on the road so I'm trying to put sand from the side of the road onto the fluid that was on the road that had leaked out my truck all while directing traffic to keep from creating an accident. An law officer came ask was I alright, I answered explained what had happened and he never took a report instead replied with "seems like you got everything handled" and got back in his car and drove off. I called for a tow service for their assistance and requested it be took to a shop. Where it now sits unrivaled. It was inspected by the mechanic and learned that the pinyin nut had came off cause my rear end to lock up which caused my drive shaft to come out and when it hit broke it smooth into 2 pieces that caused damage to my transmission case. This could have ended very badly for me that day, I'm thankful that it didn't. But now my truck is tore up do to a faulty manufacturers pinyin nut. And I need my truck fixed so I can work and support my family. This was not my doings. I love my truck very much and desperately need it back up and running.
The driveline driveshaft fell out there’s a pinion nut that came loose and suddenly locked my rear end up without warning. Cant move it.
I was driving from colorado to indiana and all the sudden I heard a noise so I pulled over to the right side of the road. When a man came across the median and got a fire extinguisher from his truck and stated for me and my 3 dogs to get out because my truck was on fire. He stated that the driver shaft was on fire with flames by my gas tank.

We were driving on the highway 55 mph and heard a noise while exiting and we thought we hit a large hole. Before we reached the end of the off ramp traveling at approximately 50 mph but giving the truck some gas to accelerate we heard a very loud pop and it felt like something hit the bottom of the truck. We pulled off to side and checked under the truck to see the slip yolk and u joint of the driveline were broken and the flange nut on rear end was backed off and the rear end was shattered. Also the fuel vapor recovery lines were broke from the slip yolk and u joint breaking. Is this issue related to recall number 14v79600.
Noise from rear end. Garage found chunks of metal inside, passenger side carrier retainer loose, c clips loose, pinion retainer loose. Clutches slipping. Vehicle in. Motion grinding noise. .
While driving on street the rear axle pinion nut loosened and jammed the rear end which resulted in the truck tires locking up.
Engine stalls at all speeds on an interstate while going 75 mph with no control of steering due to lost of power steering or brakes. Sometimes it will restart of sometimes it doesn't right away but after about thirty minutes it will restart. This is also true of parking lots and city streets. With no codes or engine check light to refer to.
4/23/2017 rear passenger side wheel and hub assembly fell off. Caused damage to vehicle. Luckily it happened while turning in a parking lot. I've seen a lot of online postings and pictures of failures and accidents due to this product deficiency. Please advise. . . Thank you for your time. . .
Rear end locked up while driving due to pinion nut backing off. Destroying the rear end.
I own a black 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 4 door short bed with 146,466 miles on it. I have owned this truck from new, almost 14 years. Never has a pinion nut back off the pinion before. We had just got off the main hi way speed was 55 mph and turned onto a back road speed was 35 mph. When out of know were there was a loud bang from under the back off the truck. Then the drive line fell off of the rear end and banged around until I could get the truck over to the side of the road and stopped. Went to the dealer the next day to find out that there has been problems with the 1500 truck rear ends, but per my VIN number on my truck it is not covered by a known problem. Only the 2005 and 2006 1500 trucks a covered. It seems that the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks have the same pinion nut issue as the 2005 and 2006 1500's. This could have been a very different out come if we were on a freeway were the speeds are anywhere from 55 to 75 mph. I would hope the manufacturer of these trucks will take a look into the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pinion nut issue before someone is killed because of a manufacturing process error.
Was driving on highway and all of the sudden my heard a loud noise and my truck went out of control. My diferential fell and my wheels locked couldn't move. It was a scary experienced. No cars where near me because it would have caused a big accident.
Vehicle rear end has gone out. Took vehicle to dealer as instructed by fca due to noise in rear end. Dealer drove . 1 miles and determined rear end is bad. Pinion nut is loose causing pinion gear to move. Advises Chrysler of such to no avail. Vehicle started making noise in rear end at 42000 miles. Advises Chrysler that there is no reason this part should be coming loose that it a manufacturer s defect. Told that vehicle is out of warranty and that it is my problem. This is a serious issue that can cause injury if control of vehile is lost due to rear wheels locking up.
Was driving on the express way. Sudden loud noise from underneath the car, a lot of smoke. Pulled over immediately. My rear axle came off. No apparent reason. I believe there is a recall on theese models , the manufacturing date of my truck is not within the timeframe established. Demand further investigation.

The rear axle started making a whining noise that gradually got louder and then the rear axle locked up making the truck unable to be driven. I think it's the pinion nut like many other Dodge trucks but according to the information in the p77 recall my year truck is not included even though the rear axle has the exact issue described in the recall.
I recieved a letter stating a recall.

We where on our way back from California to arizona on the 40. A small highway in the middle of no where, when we heard a very loud boom. Next a very large cloud of smoke came from the back of the truck, then the trucks rear end ceased up leaving us stranded in the middle of no where at night. To have the truck towed just to needles CA was $600. 00. Was this part recalled? I cannot find this information anywhere and would like to know what Chrysler is doing about this very dangerous situation.
Truck lost all power, throttle lamp blinking. Stalled on roadway, would start but would not give throttle to move the truck. Turned key off then back on a few times and would let me apply throttle for a few seconds, then back to no power. I did this a few times just to get off the roadway. There is no throttle cable so it is a computer control problem.
Vehicle was traveling down a 4 lane main thoroughfare in medium traffic when the rear end locked up and exploded. Driver was lucky enough to gain control of the vehicle and bring it to a stop without injury or crashing into another vehicle. Although the vehicle is a 2004, it was manufactured with in the same time frame as the 2005 p77 recall for the same issue.

While driving down the road the left front headlight would give out at random times brought to dealer and was diagnosed as fcm (later found out by another mechanic that it was a loose connector at the tipm issue was also the same exact thing on our work truck a 2004 Dodge ram 3500 dually). The main safety issue is with the power rack and pinion, it has given out twice on the road in heavy traffic, the fix the first time was a complete replacement of the power rack and pinion system. The second time, the replacement of inner tie rod seals. Another computer issue was brought in for loss of power to whole truck at random times, cruise control failing, power surges. Unit replaced twice in one year to correct the problem.

We had the exact thing happen to us. We where driving down the freeway when we heard a loud bang. The rear end of our truck went out. We where stuck in the middle of no wheres and had to be towed about 150 miles. There was a recall for this item "Friday¿s recall marks the third time Chrysler has had issues with the Dodge ram¿s rear axle. " however when we put our VIN number into the system it states our truck is not part of this recall. How do we replace this? it should be covered by the manufacturer. If we buy a replacement part how do we find a good rear axle, when they where all recalled? Dodge should widen this recall to include all the trucks that had the same problem. . .
While driving on interstate at 65mph red lightning bolt light on dash starts flashing and truck stalls, it was almost impossible to steer and brake the vehicle safely to get off road, this was very dangerous situation with other passengers. Called dealer, they cant offer any inside to problem without vehicle at shop to read codes, no codes shown and vehicle can not be drivin, $40,000 for 89000 miles.
While driving Saturday, 11/23/2013, I noticed a vibration and humming noise coming from the front of my vehicle. Also, when I turned the car would croak or moan. I could tell something was wrong because my brake pedal became very spongy and had to be pressed in fully in order to stop the car. I began to head home with the truck as I did not want a safety hazard where I could not stop the vehicle. I also noticed that in order to steer straight, I had to hold my steering wheel approximately 30 degrees left. Upon getting the truck home I immediately saw my problem. My front passenger tire was sitting in the wheel well on an angle. Large amounts of smoke were pouring out of the undercarriage, and rubber goo was leaving a trail where I drove. I jacked the car and removed the wheel, and could see even more. My wheel hub assembly was separated and broken. This caused my tire to sit on the hub crooked and lean against my control arm. The heat from this friction was so intense that it melted my cv boot, which is why I had a rubber goo trail. It also melted the abs sensor on the wheel hub itself. Causing my abs to go out. The hub itself had a piece completely fallen off, as if a weld broke. The heat also warped my rotor, and cracked my brake pads in that side. Luckily, I did not have any wheel separation or total failure of the braking system, causing crash or injury. I was barely able to utilize braking and drive home at about 20mph with hazards on. The wheel hub assembly has been recalled in several year Dodge Ram 1500s, including 2004, 2006, and others, for bearing issues. However Dodge claimed it was only a faulty part in 2wd applications. Now we know this is not true. I have a 4wd ram that had the hub assembly fail and a partial braking failure. I am out of room, but I have pictures of the parts broken on the car, and pictures of the removed parts as well.
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab 5. 7l hemi 2wd and it continues to stall every now and then at low speeds or at a complete stop. Vehicle will start right up with no problem but battery gauge takes a few seconds to rise to operating levels. Transmission also feels like it wants to slip at time of stall. Had engine and trans changed, battery and alternator checked out okay as well. Did some research and found that a lot of incidents happen after vehicle transmission ha been serviced or transmission fluid is low; other individuals who have experienced this problem have said they had the erg valve, tps sensor, map sensor and even software. I don't know what the problem is but you end up spending hundreds of dollars trying to figure this out. I don't know why Chrysler doesn't address this issue.
I now having problems with rear end for the 4th time since I got this truck. I paid to have repaired first time. 3 months later it went again. Dodge dealer gave hard time but they found it defective again. Fixed. Only a year and 1/2 later it is going again. I only put 18000 miles on this last one. I need to know what can be done to fix the rear in my ram truck. It is too expensive to pay out of my pocket. 4 times? never had that with a Ford. Problem is I need the truck and fixed income and can't pay dealers to keep fixing the rear. Help. I need to know if there is anything I can do about this problem as it goes back to shop on July 31. The Dodge people say I am out of any warranty. I can't afford a new truck either. The dates listed is close to when this last issue started. It does not reflect back when the others first started but about 2 or 3 years now since first rear went.
Engine stalls upon breaking. This is an intermitent problem. Loss of complete power going 45 mph , all 4 breaks locked up on there own, vehicle restarted on it's own. Sometimes does not want to restart. Check engine light does not come on , nor throw codes. Over the past 3 years this has happened apx 50 times. No warning leading up to complete loss of power. Parts already replaced include: fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor and ignition switch. None of which have resolved the issue.
Engine stalled while braking to turn left in a busy intersection. Lost power steering and brakes. Narrowly missed crashing into a light pole. The engine stalling occurred for the first time about three weeks ago. At that time it occurred twice in one week. Took the car to shop where spark plugs were replaced but the problem was not corrected. Engine stalled three times in thirty minutes today.
