4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

The passenger side headlight does not turn on even after replacement when the headlight switch is in the on position. Dealer has determined that the fault is the tipm (totally integrated power module). Per dealer mfg no longer produces the tipm unit. Per dealer aftermarket no longer manufactures part either. Dealer suggests wrecking yard, however part is a computer based product that still must be reprogrammed by dealer after replacement. This is a safety issue with lighting, and the passenger side headlight will not function without this unit being replaced.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/12/2013

After passing a slow moving vehicle on the highway, my truck shut down. The engine cut off ,dash lights and park light started to flicker erratically and the headlights went off. I managed to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. In order to stop the lights from flickering I disconnected the battery (they flickered with the switch in the off position). As the lights flickered I could hear relays clicking under the hood and dash. After waiting a while I reconnected the battery and all systems came back on and I was able to start the truck and drive it home. The dealership will not be able to check it out until wed the 18. All systems seem to be normal. I have to go to work . I' m driving it 60 miles round trip everyday.

6 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

In the 1994-2001 model year Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks there is no relay in the wiring circuitry use for the headlights. When the ram was redesigned in 1994, the engineers did not find it necessary to change the 40-year old design for the headlight system; feeling only the need to use a larger gauge wire to handle the excessive heat of the halogen bulbs. Unfortunately, neither the wires nor the switch or internal rheostat (for the instrument panel lighting) could handle this load and the following near tragic even has been an all too common occurrence. A recall (or at the very least a TSB has been issued for the 3500 model Dodge rams, which are comprised of the exact same switch and wiring, but nothing has been noted about the 1500 or 2500 models. I cannot understand this, and this is the very reason I feel compelled to be writing this complaint in the first place. One night I was driving along the freeway at about 55-mph when the headlight switch, relay and connected wiring all became overheated, causing them to melt. Becoming frantic, I was able to quickly wiggle the dimmer switch (combination/turn signal switch), then the headlight switch until I got them to come back on. During that episode I had them go out on me about 4 times that I recall. Currently the vehicle remains unfixed and is not drivable at night. Being a mechanic, my first thought was to check the relays and fuses to see if they were blown or bad. To my dismay, I could not find any relays! this was how I discovered, through some online research, about the recurring problem with the headlight switch- how I was not alone in this situation and the rest of the aforementioned paragraph. I will gladly be available for phone calls, questions, and to take pictures of the parts in question.

The doors that switch the air up to the windshield or to your feet or face started flapping back anfourth and then stuck ion blowing on your feet never switching again. Then before I could get back to the dealership to get fixed the whole hvac system quit working all except the fan switch, it still blows on your feet. When the system quit it also stopped my automatic headlight on switch to quit. You can't defrost the windshield how is that not safe. The truck had about 50000 miles when these started happen.

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

Headlights were on high beam and dimmed lights and lost all of the headlights . It was early morning but there was enough light for me to slow and pull over to the side of the road. I kept moving the dimmer switch back and forth between high and low beam until the lights finally came back on. I left them in low beam and drove the rest of the way to work on low beam. When I got home later after work I waited till night time and pulled my truck into my car port and repeated what had happened on that morning. On about the fifth try the lights went out again , I then repeated flipping the dimmer switch back and forth between high and low beam and after many attempts was able to get the headlights back on. The next day took it to the dealer for repairs , they replaced the dimmer switch and the mechanic who worked on my truck told me that was no the first one he had replaced and told me I was very lucky. If it had failed in heavy traffic on a two lane highway and under darker night conditions and at a higher rate of speed I probably would have wrecked. I believe this is a design flaw. ## VIN passed ## Dodge Ram 1500 ##.

2001 Dodge Ram 1500; after driving long distances, the low beam head lights would not come on after turning off the truck and turning it back on. This has happened 5 times, usually after switching the lights on and off a few times and / or switching from low to high beam a few times the low beams will come back. The last time the low beams did not come back for 3 days. I went to the fairfield lithia Dodge dealer to replace the head lamp switch, and they said there was a national back order on the light switches with the cargo dimmer/switch. 20 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/04/2005

The switch for the headlights must be false since this is already the second time in the two years that I have owned my truck that this has happened. I understand that recalls do occur, but this is very expensive and out of my wallet. Now, I doubt that I will buy a Dodge again since Dodge does not cover its mistakes.

21 Headlight Switch problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/07/2004

My problem or complaint is this. One night I was driving my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab to work. I was on the highway when my lights failed. The driving lights, low and high beams just went out. I have a 23 mile commute one way. Working at night I was placed in a bad situation. The only thing I had was my parking lights and flashers. I pulled over and waited for the state police, since they did not come. I drove to work with my flashers on. The good newsis my luck did not run out I made it to work unharmed. In the morning I drove my truck home and looked up the electrical system and found there is no fuses in this circuit. I spoke with my cousin who also has a ram and found out that he has gone through 3 switches. Would this be considered a safety hazard? if I had been driving on a winding road at night and the same thing had happened, I would be replacing my truck and not just the $75. 00 dealer only switch. I know their are a lot of these trucks out there and to find out that there has been 4 switches replaced in just 2 trucks. Isn't this a little high. Also, the dealer has plenty of this on hand. Which to me means, this item is a highly consumed item.

23 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/02/2003

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, with 104,000 miles. The head light switch short circuited which caused the wiring connector and the switch connector to over heat and melt. 25 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/01/2001

Headlight switch got hot and melted itself and the electrical connector causing headlights to quit wroking while driving at night. Dash was extremely hot above switch. No other electrical equipment added to headlight circuit. Contacted Chrysler but they said it was not their problem. I have the failed components and can provide them or pictures if required. Replacement switch also included a connector and pigtail. Is this because they see this problem a lot? normally you would have to buy parts separately.

26 Headlight Switch problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/10/1999

Headlight switch failed due to overheating which caused headlights to go out while vehicle was traveling on interstate at 65mph. Dealer sold me a new switch/kit and provided installlation information for their safety recall 819 (which they said did not apply to this vehicle). Instructions talk about looking for a melted connector which indeed my switch does have. New wiring harness provides a resistor or something which my mechanic tells me is to dissipate heat! dealer and Chrysler can not explain why this happened and offer no relief but I still feel if they know they have a problem and are making modifications to some of the vehicles why they are not required to make them on all of them, especially when the failure occurs without warning and you are left without lights! fortuantely I had fog lights and the presence of mind to turn them on! thank you.
