Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 17 problems related to tail light switch (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Abs sensor comes on over 55mph. Exterior lighting keeps blowing bulbs and sometimes the tail lights completely shut off, sometimes brake lights inoperable. Windshield wipers work when they want to or only at the highest frequency. All occurs while vechicle is being driven in city street conditions other than on highway when I have to go above 55mph.

I found out that my Dodge had only the rear passenger side tail light working, no turn signals, the passenger headlight only worked on low beam, and the drivers headlight only work on high beam. I replaced every bulb in the truck and still the same problem. I did some research and found that the integrated distribution center ( fuse box) has been a problem with corrosion inside the box. I looked everywhere for a new one, no luck. I then called Chrysler corporation and they searched the entire u. S. And not one dealer had a fuse box. I was told that Chrysler used this fuse box only in 2005 and they have discontinued the part. I was actually told by Chrysler to try ebay. With all the 2005 Dodge rams and several other makes and models still on the road, how is it possible that they can just stop making a part vital to the vehicle. How has this not been investigated and a recall issued for this. If the owners of these vehicles can not find a used fuse box then the vehicle becomes a lawn ornament. This is a safety hazard that should be investigated and resolved. I am now paying my monthly truck payments on a vehicle I can no longer drive safely.
My parking and tail lights stopped working. , founs out this is due to the design flaw of the engine fuse box as the connectors are exposed to the weather elements , thus shorted out the circuit board that sends the a negative signal to the park lamp relay at 86 ,. The cost of the the repair is 500. 00. Dodge is fully aware of this issue as the replacement now comes with a splash guard plate to help protect the connectors. If you google 2004 Dodge ram parking light issue , you will see that a lot of us have this very same problem, they should honor this recall as it can be very dangerous to drive at night with out the taillights,.

With around 14000 miles on my truck I was driving home and was alerted that my front left blinker was burnt out, moments later I was notified that my right front blinker was burnt out. A few miles down the interstate from that I was notified that my right fog light had burnt out. I was going to take my truck in the next day (Monday morning). Before heading to the dealership I inspected my front lights to find that my front driver's side headlight was out also. I waited until the sun came up and prior to heading to the dealership I checked the lights again. All were working so I didn't take my truck to the dealership (Monday mid-morning). Tuesday morning the cycle repeated itself getting notified first of the left front blinker, then the right front blinker, then the fog light. I saw no reflection from the tail light blinker as well. My truck is currently at the dealership getting checked.

I lost my parking lights (tail lights) this morning before I went to work at 3;30 a. M. When I got off work I began my search for solutions how to repair this problem. My discovery was kind of disturbing. It turns out that there are a lot of other owners of the same vehicle that are going through this problem. It has something to do with the the fuse box inside, there is a faulty wire that causes this and the only solution is to replace the whole thing. Makes me kind of wonder what other problems are wrong inside the fuse box. I feel that Chrysler should recall this part and replace it. Do we have to wait for an accident to happen before something is done about it? I read on the forums that this part is on back order because of this problem this in itself should be a red flag. Not sure what to do about this. I will order this part if I must but with the large amount of others having the same problem maybe Dodge should pick up the bill. Thanks for reading I hope there is a solution.

While driving on the freeway at night the headlights, tail lights, blinkers, 4-ways, brake lights, and tail lights went out and when slowing down to pull over the engine stalled. The engine started back up to get to the side of the road and stalled again with no warning. The truck now stalls at all stop lights and stop signs and is not giving any codes. The truck now has a large draw and kills the battary shortly after turing the truck off. The truck is still in the shop and so far the fcm, pdc and some wiring has been replaced but the power draw persists and the engine stalling still persists. Researching the issue on the internet this is a comon problem on this vehicle and has been for quite some time. This is a very dangerous issue and needs to be addressed.

Approximately a year ago I began experiencing lighting problems, flickering all around; and with truck off the remote would randomly, continuously lock the doors. I finally broke the remote to make it stop. Now my driver side tail light won't work. I needed my inspection/registration but couldn't get it until the light is repaired. My mechanic said it's the fuse box, said it's in horrible condition. More problems are possible. Parts & labor will be near $850. Various forums are inundated with similar complaints. A friend of a CO-worker's truck burnt to the ground in his driveway (and singed the house) because the fuse box didn't tell the fuel pump to shut off. With that and many other complaints I've read I'm now very fearful for my safety. Dodge/Chrysler needs to replace the fuse box immediately. Thank you for your time.

After replacing multiple bulbs for my passenger side headlight and changing the connector switch, I have been told I will have to replace my tipm (totally integrated power module) which is $800 + labor at the dealership. The tipm is the fuse box and I've seen several '06-'08 model Dodge owners on different forums with the same problem. When the tipm goes out, it can cause the headlights, locks, blinkers, tail lights, wipers interior lights, etc to not work. In 2006, Dodge replaced the fuse box with a tipm and since then it has been nothing but problems for Dodge owners.

Head lights and tail lights go out when driving. Dash lights remain on. They will come back on in a few miles and also if I stop the truck and restart. Playing with the switch doesn't make any difference. I have had it in the Chrysler repair shop 4 times to search for an error but none are shown. Chrysler refuses to do anything since they cannot determine what is wrong. I feel this is a serious safety problem and should be treated as such. I also had the side outside heated mirror replaced because it had a burnt spot in the lower corner. Uconnect has also been affected at times right before the lights go out. The electronic vehicle information center displayed "not trained" one morning when I opened the door to get in.
The tail light function of the trailer wiring harness stopped functioning. Still have use of brake and turn lights. This is hard to catch on a visual test since I usually check turn and brake functions. Towed for weeks before I was told of the malfunction. Therefore cannot see trailer at night. Dealership could not fix problem.

Left brake light failed around end of January 2011. 1 1/2 weeks latter the right brake light failed. Replaced bulbs. Did not fix problem. Replaced stop light switch. Did not fix problem. Made phone calls and was told that Dodge was having alot of problems with this, that it was the (tail light tree component) and that it was left up to the consumer to have this fixed and to pay for it themselves. Thats not fair, it's not the consumers fault it quit working, it's a part malfunction and should be repaired by Dodge @ their cost beings they have already known about this problem and have not done a recall on it. This is very dangerous to the consumer and could kill someone.
I have to keep replacing the rear tail light bars because they seem to overheat and scorch the sockets. The lamp out light and warning bell is constantly coming on. The bell is beyond being tolerated while driving. I have to turn off my front light switch for the bell to go off. Lots of fun at night. The Dodge forum says this is a very common problem with 3rd generation Dodge ram trucks. There should be a recall on this system. I can not ethically sell this truck with this constant problem.
I drove to a football game one evening, when I pulled in the parking lot, a man asked if I knew that my tail lights were not working. He told me the turn signals and brake lights worked, but no tail lights. I had to drive home that night on the interstate with no tail lights. The only way I had to notify people coming up behind me that I was on the road was to turn on my cargo light. This posed a very dangerous problem on the interstate with not only passenger vehicles behind me but also semi trucks that would not see me until they were right on top of me. I had no clue that the lights were not working because all the dash lights were working. I had all the fuses checked and the relay and everything was ok there. The garage told me I would have to take it to the dealer so they could check the front control module. I am scheduled to take it in to the dealer in two days. I have found alot of people saying they had the same problem with the module malfunctioning. This causes a very dangerous situation while driving since the drive has no idea that they are out and if driving on roads that are not lighted after dark the vehicle behind you has no idea that you are there until they get right on top of you. Fog, rain or snow could compound this situation.
