Failure Date: 04/02/2006

I was driving down the road, heard a noise and suddenly my right front wheel detached from my vehicle. My vehicle swerved out of control and I ended up in a shopping plaza. Luckily, I escaped unhurt. I looked and saw that the wheel became detached at the spindle. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer. Even though my vehicle is under warranty, the dealer refused to fix it stating that I hit something that caused the spindle to become detached. The 2004 Dodge stratus has had the same problem and there are an awful lot of Dodge rams with front end problems. Daimler Chrysler refused to do anything stating that they go with what the dealership says.

16 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/13/2004

Experienced rear axle shear with tire still intact to the axle hub on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 qual cab. Vehicle has approx 22,000 miles on it and had previously been repaired (axles and suspension components replaced) by a Dodge/chrylser facility. Turning left into a residential neighborhood the right rear tire sheared off at the axle hub and the result was loss of control of the vehicle. No personal injury as it was a low speed turn but it did result in damage to the vehicle. Chrysler has not agreed that it was a defect, workmanship issue although they admit there is no evidence of side impact to that wheel.
