1 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

While going on vacation pulling our 28' travel trailer with our 2009 Dodge 2500. The front brakes locked up on the freeway, almost causing us to almost go into the ditch. We safely pulled on to a side road, and found that the front brakes were smoking and very hot. After bring it to the dealership, it was discovered that the rubber brake lines had failed [collapsing]. It was inspected, and found that the rear brakes were not working at all, and the front brakes had locked up on the calipers. The dealer informed us that they have been aware of this happening to some 2009 Dodge 2500 service brakes. The truck has 85,250 miles on it and in good condition. This is a huge safety concern with us that needs to be addressed by Chrysler Dodge. Our truck has been in the shop for 3 weeks and costs will be over $1000. 00 to repair it.

The caliper bolts fell out, found one on road, caliper locked up against caliper locking front tire and pulling truck into ditch. No injury or damage to truck other than flat spot on tire. 6 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

Previously reported on 10/22/02, odi# 768732, and again to webmaster on 10/25/02. Vehicle has been taken to dealership where purchased for repairs to no avail. This is the 4th time that it has been in the shop for the same metal to metal "clanking" noise in the front left and right side of the wheel area. The noise only occurs when the vehicle has been in reverse and the brakes are applied and then forward and the brakes are applied. After continueing in a forward motion it does not make the noise when brakes are applied. This 4th time that it was in the shop, the brake calipers were replaced and it is as if nothing had been done as the noise is still present. With this being a metal clanking noise, I feel that it could be a serious safety problem if something actually breaks. I am now to continue driving the vehicle until an other appointment can be made to bring the truck back to the dealership for more "guess work". And when they have a loaner vehicle. I have owned the truck for a little over a month and it has been in the repair shop for about two weeks and the problem can not seem to be fixed. Dt.

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/10/2001

While applying the brakes vehicle swerved to the right. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that rotors and calipers needed to be replaced, and replaced it twice. However, the problem recurred.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/15/2000

I have heard some talk of someone out in California, refabricting the front brake system to solve this problem. Is there any other truck owners that have also heard this? the brake calipers on this 1999 Dodge, are almost have the size of the brake calipers on my 1992. The brakes pull hard to the right when braking at any speed, especially during rain. Very very dangerous when rainy weather. Dealer has been very very good with me in trying to get this fixed. Even they are telling me they will have to contact Chrysler too. Does someone have to get hurt, and file a lawsuit to make anything happen? why wait til one is dead, take action now, this is a safety concern!! lets start a chat section, get everyone together!!!.

10 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

Front brake calipers failed and replaced 3 times.

11 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/01/1999

The brakes pulled right and the right side caliper was replaced. Now the brakes are pulling left. It seems the calipers are defective as the rubber seals deteriorate with heat. I have contacted several other ram 4x4 owners who have experienced the same problem. The dealer (tuttle-click, irvine, CA) was very good about repairing under warranty.

12 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/14/1999

Dodge has had a brake problem on all of the diseal models, why has there not been a recall on this safety problem. The date below is just filled in because you wanted a date.

13 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/01/1999

Rear (abs) brakes would cause a shimmying effect when applied. Problem had occurred twice before. Front (abs) brakes were three times replaced, including pads and shoes/rotors and calipers. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed that drums needed to be cut. The problem was intermittent. Dealer offered to accept vehicle as a trade-in.

14 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/28/1998

My truck brakes pull severely to the right when braking. This problem exists in all Ram 2500 4x4 trucks I have encountered. The dealer has replaced rotors; calipers;alignment; etc. I have had the truck in 9 times (I have documentation) on the same problem with no relief. Dealer now refuses to look further into this problem. Brakes pull to right hard enough to slide truck sideways on wet pavement. Brake pads wear out faster on right front - there has been evidence of the right rotor getting hot (brakes dragging). This is a serious safety issue in a large tall and heavy truck! all Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 owners I have talked to report periodic or continuous similar problems with their brakes.

15 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 03/15/1998

Due to design of brakes it constantly pulls one direction or the other when braking. If making hard stop it pulls more. The only way to keep this at bay is to constantly remove and relube slide pins on the front calipers. When dealer replaced front brake pads, they were adviced about the pull and as usual response was could not duplicate or fix.

16 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/17/1997

Brake components (pads, calipers, lines) have failed two to three times.

17 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/01/1996

Right front brakes do not respond in a safe maner, causing a hard pull to the right when brakes are hot. Owner believes that the calipers are bad.

18 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

When pulling load back brakes will not operate, and all work is done by front brakes. This causes front brakes to get real hot. After taking trailer off and going down on a dirt road, back brakes will lock up and vehicle will slide. TSB 05-04098 was issued, stating proportional valve had to be replaced. Also, the front brakes and caliper repeatdly fails almost every 3000 miles.

19 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 2500

Front brake calipers failed.

20 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

This truck is unsafe!! two weeks after purchase, steering pulled hard to the left when loaded/towing. Now truck pulls hard to the right when braking (loaded or not), but will occassionally pull left. Driver is never sure which direction truck will pull. Dealership has made numerous "repairs" to the steering, suspension, and brakes; including but not limited to steering gear box, ball joints, calipers, suspension arms, alignment, tire pressure, tire rotation, tire size. District service manager has stated these trucks have "very sensitive suspensions" and the pulling is "normal". This is a 3/4 ton 4-wheel drive work truck and it has a "sensitive suspension"?.
