36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

While driving my 2013 Ram 2500 crew cab 4x4 (VIN 3c6ur5fl4dg535461 ) I was on an onramp headed onto the highway and I tried to accelerate from roughly 10-15 mph to highway speed because of the short on ramp and heavy traffic. The truck refused to accelerate at even a moderate speed while the accelerator was fully depressed. I ended up having to pull over to the shoulder because I was not able to gain any speed due to what I believe was some kind of electronic program preventing acceleration. I tried to research online for some issues other people may have been reporting and found people referring to something called torque management being there problem. I want ram to fix this issue because it is a true safety issue which prevent necessary acceleration in real world driving situations.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

Alert: Dodge Ram 2500 diesel life threatening problem --- on July 11, 2014, while driving on u. S. Route 77 in north carolina I passed an 18 wheeler at 70 mph and pulled back into the right lane in front of the truck when, without any warning whatsoever, the engine just stopped. The truck I had just passed nearly jackknifed as the trucker applied his brakes in a panic maneuver to avoid rolling over me from behind. Luckily, he maintained control, got around me, and continued on his way. I coasted to the side of the road and tried to restart the engine but, although it would crank, it would not start. I was forced to wait and then, after a time, tried starting it again. It did. I slowly drove to the next exit but not without incident. After going only a few hundred yards the truck bucked, hesitated and stopped again. Again, I waited. This scenario repeated itself until I got to safety. Coincident with the engine stopping the power steering failed, the abs light came on, it appeared the airbag system was inoperative and all the gauges in the instrument cluster stopped working. Eventually, my truck was towed to lake norman Dodge. There, the very helpful assistant service manager, terry, evaluated the problem saying either the powertrain control module or the instrument cluster was the problem but his experience led him to try replacing the computer first. Replacing the pcm fixed the problem. The instrument cluster resumed working. At least temporarily. On September 16 2014, on a local trip, the truck just stopped again. I was stranded on a state road. I used my prior experience with waiting, starting, driving a little way and having the engine stop again to limp into a local repair shop. Eventually, they towed it to shelor Dodge in christiansburg, va. Where it currently remains, . . . Inoperable.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

During normal driving when turning or changing lanes and trying to accelerate rapidly to merge into moving traffic, the truck will stop responding via accelerator completely. The traction control is on, but not active during this effect. Basically anytime I accelerate rapidly from a stop the truck does not respond and leaves me dead in the water.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

This vehicle has the worst acceleration and take off I have ever noticed. If I had to get out of the way of something, I would not be able too. If not fixed this will defiantly cause an accident. I can't even pull out onto the highway and get up to the same speed as other traffic. When I got in my wreck in June I was trying to pass someone who was driving slow and I could not get around them quick enough and they cut me off causing our vehicle to collide.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

A dead throttle pedal occurs at two different instances. One, when from a dead stop pulling out into traffic. The accelerator pedal will press but the vehicle will not go or change rpm for a second, then the vehicle will move. Two, when trying to pass someone, occasionally the vehicle will exhibit the same dead pedal response for a moment then accelerate. This is most definitely unsafe for my family. Multiple dealerships have told me they cannot replicate the problem, but I have researched online and many others have experienced the same. It is a concern that must be fixed.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

All of a sudden the windshield wipers and washer came on with out warning and blinded me right in the middle of a curve. Then engine quite and horn started blowing. I lost my steering and brakes. When I managed to get the truck stopped I was blocking one lane of traffic. Raised hood and the electrical box with fuses was burning. I diconnected my battery to stop electric flow. I had just come off of highway wher I had been going 70 miles an hour. If I had been going that fast at the time of electrical problems it would been really bad as I had two other people with me. One a 90 year old motherinlaw.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

While driving on the highway traffic ahead was coming to a stop because of a truck making a left hand turn I applied the brakes and the engine continued to stay at the same speed. I avoided an accident by shifting into neutral and noticed that the engine was running at 1,800 rpm. I then put the truck into drive with the brakes applied and it started to downshift the transmission very hard. This occurred several other times as I drove home. I took the truck to the dealer the next morning and had it serviced for a recall and the problem of a stuck throttle which I thought to be the problem. I was called back to pick up the truck on 1/10/2014 and immediately had the same problem later that day. I took the trick back to the dealer on 1/13/2014 and have yet to receive an answer to the problem only that they can not find a problem with it. This concerns me very much as this condition could and will in the future cause an accident, injury or death should it occur again.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

The whole truck began shaking so violently, I thought I may loose control, or the truck would not stay upright. The shaking continued until I stopped on the shoulder. A careful inspection revealed no evidence of loose parts. I drove another 30 minutes (5 on freeway, 25 on surface roads) without another incident. Baffling. I have driven this diesel truck in many conditions and on many surfaces with this truck. Vibrations have been strong sometimes in the past, set off by "wash-boards" in the pavement. . . Seem to be worse in the "tractor trailer/slow" lanes. But this event was 2-3 x the intensity.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

I have always used synthetic oil in this engine. Just like the many people that I have found on the internet mine threw a rod. Destroyed the core. Estimated cost is 6,000. This is a horrible thing. It appears that Dodge is well aware of this an a recall should have happened long ago.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/18/2013

From statement of operator "while performing road maintenance activities I was driving up a grade at low speed while in four wheel drive and in low gear. The first indication of a problem was a sudden burst of smoke from under the hood accompanied by the engine oil light coming on. I tripped the hood release, went to the front of the vehicle to open the hood. The smoke from the engine compartment prevented me from safely locaing the hood release. I then retrieved the fire extinguisher from the vehicle and applied it the best I could to the engine compartment. At the same time another employee retieved an additional 2 fire extinguishers from another forest service truck and applied their contents in a similar fashion. The application was insufficent to extinguish the fire. Over the subsequent half hour to 45 minutes the vehicle became fully engulfed in fire. The second operator said when he seen the smoke he ran up to the fron side of the truck and could see flames in the engine compartment and at that time they tried to extinguish the fire using 3 5abc fire exinguishers. After depleting the extinguishers they moved back and unhooked the rock rake they were pulling and waited for the fire response to arrive at which time the vehicle was totally engulfed.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Vehicle exhibits an accelerator 'dead pedal' problem. When pulling out into traffic, or slowing then accelerating, if one lifts the throttle then reapplies the throttle quickly, the truck does not respond for several seconds. In heavy traffic, this can create (and has created) a potentially dangerous situation. This has been an ongoing problem that the dealer has been unable to resolve.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/10/2013

There appears to be two possibly related issues with regard to the powertrain. The first issue is some sort of backlash in the drive train when accelerating to 30-35 mph and then letting off the gas. The system seems to shift gears before the torque converter unlocks. The second issue is that when accelerating from a stop there is a significant lag in response between the engine and the pedal both in accelerating and decelerating. This can cause an issue when pulling out into traffic. Both of these relate to the bcm and the electronic throttle control. Multiple visits to the dealership have not solved this issue.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

I was driving approximately 65 mph when I noticed a strong smell of fuel and a trail of white smoke coming from my vehicle. I pulled off the highway at the next exit and I lost all power. I was barely able to pull over and stop because I lost my power steering and power brakes. It took a lot of effort just to get stopped and I was lucky I was pulling off the highway in s straight line and I was not on a hill or a curvy road. Once I got pulled over and stopped I noticed an extreme amount of diesel fuel dripping from the engine compartment and the whole under carriage of the truck. The firewall insulation was completely saturated with fuel. The number 4 fuel line had ruptured a leak at the seam behind the coupling nut and spewed diesel fuel all over the engine compartment, probably two to three gallons worth. I have read several complaints about this year and model of this vehicle having the same issue with the number 4 fuel line but no other fuel lines on this model. I feel I was very lucky that the fuel did not ignite or the whole vehicle would definitely of caught on fire and the out come would of been catastrophic for my family that was in the vehicle.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not locate or diagnose any failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified who informed him to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a second diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 16,487.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

While on vacation in wv, I began having steering issue where the truck would drift left and there became an overabundance of play in the steering wheel. Since then it has become difficult to drive. I repeatedly took the truck to my local dealer and called but there was no recall on my truck. There are recalls on ram 1500 megacabs and Ram 2500;s but not on a Ram 2500 megacab???? I have had my suspension replaced, my steering looked at six time at a local shop and it is still not driving as it should. My engine compartment liner is also burned where a metal hose has come in contact with it and melted through it. This is plain to see when the hood is up and yet my truck is not part of any recall for this either. Since my truck is not listed on any of the recalls, am I eligible for the buyback?.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

After changing the oil I noticed a quarter size rust bubble on the side of the oil pan about 1/2" from the bottom. I took a rag and wiped it off in an attempt to spray some paint on it but as soon as I wiped it the new oil started running out at a slow drip. I ultimately ended up replacing the oil pan. After I had the pan of it looked like the pan had been painted with rust on the outside. The inside of the pan was fine but I had 10 or 15 rust spots that were bubbling under the paint.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 10/28/2011

When I adjusted the steering wheel to a different position an apparent electrical failure shut down the engine and the power steering and power brakes rendering the truck almost uncontrollable at that speed. This catastrophic failure was replicated at different speeds and while startionary. Apparently any movement of the steering wheel will shut off complete power to the engine and cause a total loss of power to the vehicle.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

On August 20, 2013, I pulled over my vehicle to let my dog jump in the river. After shutting off the engine and exiting the vehicle for approximately 20 min, the vehicle spontaneously caught fire in the engine compartment and completely burned my vehicle to the ground.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

I took my 2008 Dodge 2500 into the dealer after expierencing a "pop" sensation in the front end at low speed (5-10mph). The dealer stated that both tie rod ends where worn out as well as both upper and lower ball joints. I spoke with the manager as the truck is out of warranty and he stated this was normal wear and tear. I then contacted the Chrysler help line. Initially they gave the impression that they may be able to assist me with this problem. However in a return phone call, they stated they could not do anything because of the mileage. Of course I asked them how was it possible for the whole front end to be shot at 70,000 miles when it was suppose to have a heavy duty suspenssion as it is a diesel and the truck has never hauld any kind of weight or been off road. The other point I made with them was they know they have a problem because in order to replace the tie rod ends, you have to replace the whole assembly from the tie rod ends all the way to the pittman arm because it was redesigned. Go figure! additionally I have had the turbo charger replaced twice because the dealer said the unit was bad. My main concern now is the steering as it is going to cost me $2500. 00 to correct and I do not have that laying around.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/29/2009

My 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 is having problems with its vp-44 engine pump. It gets a "dead pedal" and in traffic it suddenly stops. There isn't anything you can do but pull over until it comes back on. This isn't a good thing in heavy traffic, especially on a 4 line road in the left lane. This almost caused an accident with a speeding semi (he almost rear ended me!).

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/06/2009

The valve springs in the compression chambers go. As you are driving you suddenly lose power and compression is gone, I have had this happen twice now with 2 chambers each time being gone. It is a scary and dangerous situation. As I ow look to replace the engine after the most recent incident, what I am discovering is that the engines available are available because of the same issue. This seems to be a fairly widespread issue on this 5. 7 litre, hemi engine.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/20/2008

Was driving down icy road and without warning the engine accelerated to near redline, sent the truck sideways and within seconds of disaster the engine finally decelerated and I got control of the truck. After cautiously limping the truck home, lost all throttle response, then after short time was erratic. This is a possible deadly situation if this occurred in the wrong situation. Dodge/Chrysler needs to address this problem before someone is killed. A code of p2121 and p2123 came up and I have been told the part alone is 530. 00 to replace. Have not taken any action yet to get this item fixed. Will not drive the truck, will have to be towed. Not at all impressed with Dodge's product and will be the last time I purchase an "american" made product. Vehicle: 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 automatic engine: cummins h/o turbo diesel outside temp -10f snowy conditions,.
