Dodge Ram 2500 owners have reported 3 problems related to engine belts and pulleys (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
2005 Dodge 2500 diesel truck. Replaced serpentine belt 4 times due to fraying. The last time it was changed the dealership told me a pulley had a nick on it and needed replaced. I paid to replace the serpentine belt and pulley. I have 120,000 miles on the vehicle and the 4th belt is needing changed due to fraying. The edge towards the fan is the one that gets frayed. I emailed Dodge a week ago and have not received a response. I feel this is a defect.

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. The contact was driving 60 mph and towing a trailer when the alternator warning lamp illuminated and the contact was unable to engage the brakes or steering wheel. The contact stated that he was able to merge to the side of the road and used the electric brakes on the trailer being towed in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the water pump barring failed and as a result, the water pump and the fan belt needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned that he had to replace the water pump a total of three times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.
