Headlight switch, socket and associated wiring burnt up, causing loss of lighting function. I was only doing 30 mph and was able to pull into a parking lot without any danger to other motorists. I had to purchase and replace the switch, socket and about 8" of wiring.
Driving on unfamiliar rural dirt road at night, switched to high beam to see upcoming intersection and all headlights went out. Stunned, I lost several critical seconds before I restored the low beams and locked up the brakes. Too late. Unable to turn safely, I left road, went down embankment through fence before stopping in pasture. Substantial front end and body damage to truck.

While searching for a fix for my dash which just cracked I found several reports of after the dash cracked where electrical issues arise. As in headlights not working at all or when switching to hi beam. I also saw a video on this issue from a news broadcast and when Chrysler was questioned about this there was never any response while the public was requesting a recall. From what I can find out just in the hour I was looking this up this would apply to just about every Dodge ram made between 1996 and 2006. My truck is garage kept and I keep it in excellent condition so for this to happen due to sitting in the sun it's entire life I might understand but there is no way this should have happened to mine. My father was a mechanic for Chrysler for over 20 years and this is just plain cheap made products. Which from what I can find out could and most likely will lead to some safety issue with the vehicle. Since I can not find anything more out with regards to what the NHTSA is doing only monitoring the issue?? the broadcast I saw was from 2012, I would think something would have become of this by now for sure after seeing that video. Yet at that time the news channel stated your doing nothing.

When towing a trailer the headlights shut off for a few min. Then come back on. With the brights on the shut offs happen earlier in the drive and more frequently. Dodge did a recall on the 3500 trucks with the same headlight system, but they did not recall the 2500 trucks. All the electrical power for the headlights is routed threw the headlight switch. The switch heats up and the headlights are shut off or the headlight switch melts from the heat and they never come back on. Dodge even sells a fix for the problem which uses relays, which they should have used when they built the truck.
Attempted to turn on headlights. Headlight switch pulled out from dis-integrated instrument panel plastic. Had to release steering wheel and hold body of headlight switch with one hand while operating switch control with other hand. This Dodge ram's dash cover has completely cracked away several years ago. Now, the actual instrument panel is dis-integrating. Currently the headlight switch, the overdrive switch and auxillary power outlet are hanging by wires. The drink holder and radio are removed as their mounting support is gone.
The contact owns a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that the headlights failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the headlight switch had failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 225,000.

Driving down the road and the headlights went out had to switch to high beams. There is nothing wrong with the bulbs it is the total integrated power module, lots of money to fix lights.
Early morning, dark, some fog, mountain roads, 45 to 55 speed limits. Using high beams as needed but not constantly due to fog and some oncoming traffic. Headlights went out, flashed back on and off, seemed to happen a couple of times as I was breaking and trying not to hit something or go into a ditch. Hit dimmer switch and low beam lights came on. Stopped at next available safe pullout. Checked truck over, found nothing. Resumed trip. Lights went out again, using high beams, finished trip with only low beams and had no other problem. Checked out headlight switch, and found overheated wiring that could result in fire.
After using headlights on high beam for approximately 15 minutes, went to switch to low beam and lost all lighting. Upon examination, headlight switch was melted. This is the second switch that has done this.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that the headlights and turn signals failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the headlight relay switch had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000. The VIN was not available.

Nhtsa # ea198010 headlight switch recall excluded the b1500 and b2500 series stating that the power draw is not as great as the b3500 series. This is in error. My 1995 b2500 burned out this same light switch and left me with no headlights. (I have not added any additional lighting). I request that ea98010 be reopened to include the b1500 and b2500 series trucks as this is a safety hazard which is the same problem as the b3500 series. I replaced the switch at my expense and can send you the old one if you need it.
Numerous headlight switches replaced due to them burning up to include several inches of the existing wiring harness to switch. I cannot believe that this type of safety issue is not being addressed. You dam sure have knowledge of the problem since the aftermarket auto parts o reilys etc. Carry the switch or switch with wiring harness as an option. After reading here all switches go out about the same. . . The headlights start going on and off then look for smoke coming from around dash where switch mounted. You can feel the heat from under when switch is burning up. Need a simple relay to stop this show how much Dodge loves its customers!.
Headlights stopped working while driving at night. Headlight switch is not safe to handle load of electricity from the headlight and marker light wires. I have replaced switch 4 times and still same problem. Lights stop working because the switch melts and begins to burn. The recall for 1997 Dodge ram headlight switch should have been extended for all models built in that year.
I was driving down the highway and about 10pm it was rainning had wipers on in medium speed wipers kept stopping. Had a lot of cars passing by me on on comming lane and they would flash their lights to me to indicate my light was off but the switch is turn on in low beam position. Had some friends following me that day as well and they told me that my brake light was not working nor my lights. . The following Wednesday which would be July 25 2012 I took my truck to the dealership I bought from ,but all the lights work except for the cargo light and the low windshield wiper warning kept comming on. . The truck has been in there for a week now and on Wednesday August 1 2012 I called the dealership to see what is wrong with my truck and the said the tipm has been fried and all the headlights, brake lights, turn signals and wipers does not work any more they have to replace the tipm. I only had the truck for one week and this went out already. It's not good Dodge or Chrysler should come up with something else so all the safety things don't fail all at once. ## VIN passed ## Dodge Ram 2500 2008 ##.

Our 2006 Dodge ram megacab will signal in the wrong direction. For instance, if you signal left, the right turn signal will turn on or both turn signals will start flashing, or the turn signals won't work at all. Sometimes when the headlights are on, and you turn it to high beams, the headlights will totally turn off. The windshield wipers will only work on intermittent speed. We had this replaced once under warranty, and now, a year later, the new switch has the same problems. These are hazards when we are driving. These problems were occurring once in a while, but now it is happening all the time.
Wipers fail to turn on or get stuck on intermediate, turn signals work on the opposite side that you place them, when you put the right turn signal on the left works. Sometime you can't switch the headlight from bright to dim or vice versa.
: the contacted stated when stopped on the side of the road, a burning odor was noticed and the parking/running lights had failed to illuminate. The fuses were checked and found to be good. The vehicle was taken to an independent service mechanic. On inspection, the problem was identified as a failure to the headlight switch, due to melted wiring. The service dealer and manufacturer were contacted. Updated 12/05/06.
Subject:recall on Dodge Ram 2500 comments: in 1999 you had a recall on all Dodge ram 3500 pickups, 1994-1997 for the headlight switch, lights may go out, recall # 819. My 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 has the exact same switch and my headlights did go out and I almost had an accident. Why was this pickup by-passed on this recall. It is very dangerous for the lights to go out at 65 mph on a dark night. From NHTSA web site.
Headlight switch shorted out, rendering headlights inoperable. A recall has been issued on vehicle's make and model; however, this vehicle was not included due to VIN.
The motorized exterior rear view mirrors moved to an inward position by themselves while the vehicle was in motion, this resulted in no visibility, the dealership replaced the mirrors but the problem recurred. Mirrors replaced again. Headlights failed. Multifunction switch replaced. Passenger side window won't go down when using switch.
Headlights will either flicker or go completely off while in use due to a malfunction in the headlight switch. This causes poor visibility. There is recall 99v024000, but this vehicle is not included in the recall due to VIN.
Headlight switch keeps overheating due to faulty wiring. Consumer replaced switch 4 times. Dodge is aware of defect, and has designed new part which includes an extra relay.
