Failure Date: 12/19/2004

Both tailgate support cables snapped (at the same instance) while standing on the tailgate while lifting approx 85 lbs. Two individuals were on the tailgate with their total weight approx 390 pounds. The protective cover on the cables was worn but cable fraying was not evident. Damaged parts are available. No replacement yet.

3 Tailgate Hinge problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/20/2004

While loading the vehicle, the tailgate support cables broke without warning. This caused the driver to sustain major injuries and was transported to the hospital. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that the tailgate support cable needed to be replaced. The consumer contacted the manufacturer but they denied any responsibility.
