Dodge Ram 3500 owners have reported 231 problems related to steering tie rod assembly (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Approximately 3 months (and 2637 miles of highway driving) after having safety recall n62 / NHTSA 13v-528 work accomplished by landers mclarty dealership in huntsville alabama, the drag link disconnected diconnected from the right tie rod at approximately 40 mph. This rsulted in a complete loss of steering and caused my vehicle to cross opposing traffic lanes and enter a ditch before I could stop the vehicle. The recall repiars were not conducted per dealer service instructions. Landers mclarty Dodge service manager had provided me an e-mail indicating "I have talked to all 3 of the technicians that perform this recall, and they all stated that they use an impact gun to actually install that nut, due to the teflon that is on the inside of it to keep it from backing off after it is installed. It is very tough and is very time consuming to install with hand tools. " the delaer service instruction state at step #16. Connect the drag link to the right tie rod end (figure 8). Tighten the new drag link retaining nut to 96 ft. Lbs. (130 nâ·m). The associated figure 8 clearly idicates the use of a torrque wrench and is lableled as such. Being an engineer and familiar with lock nuts and bolted joint design, I believe the use of an impact gun for installation could result in a broken/cracked nut, or loss of teh teflon locking feature due to heating or mechanical abuse during installation. Landers mclarty should re-acomplish recall work for all vehicles that used impact gun to accomplish the repair.

This complaint is in regards to our safety recall notice for a left tie rod ball stud. Upon examination by our local dealership, it was determined our vehicle was in need of repair. We were then told the part would take at least a month to come in, and until then, we would be driving at our own "risk" and the pickup could crash without warning. Being a mother of three, we obviously would not take this chance, and are now without a vehicle for at least a month. We find it reprehensible that Dodge would leave it's customers stranded for an unacceptable amount of time, without offer of a rental or any other compensation for this dangerous inconvenience. The next time I need a vehicle, I will be passing by the Dodge dealership. Horrendous lack of responsibility by a company who is only interested in their bottom line.
I received a notice for a safety recall n49/NHTSA 13v-529 back in December I believe for a possible problem with the tie rod ball stud. The recall stated that the parts were not available at that time and to check with my dealership. I went in the dealership two weeks ago and they checked out my truck and stated that my vehicle qualified for the recall but they would have to put me on a waiting list as Dodge would not let them stock the parts. They had to order the parts for each individual vehicle and then it was a two part process. I received another notice of recall today 6/30/14. I believe that if they are going to issue a recall then the parts need to be available or readily available to correct the problem. This truck was purchased specifically to tow our large 5th wheel camper and now we are in the middle of camping season wondering if we are going to crash every time we go out with the truck and trailer.

I have recieved two safety recalls on my Dodge pickup. I took it to martin swanty Dodge in kingman, az. . The first time I was told the company had not informed them of what they were to do to fix this problem. The second time I took it there they said they would order the parts and call me when they came in. It has been two months and I have heard nothing. I feel that since the recall is for a tie rod ball that may crack, my life and the lives of my family are in danger. I want them to fix it. But, I sure would like them to do it soon.
Left tie rod broke when trying to turn left. Have been on a waiting list to get part replaced for months upon receipt of the recall notice.
Received safety recall around Jan 2014 stating that the left tie rod ball stud on my truck may fracture. Contacted miracle Chrysler Dodge Jeep in gallatin, TN in Feb 2014 and was told that the parts are not available due to high demand and that their service department would call me when the part came in. I have called multiple times with the same results. I took my truck in on may 20, 2014 for routine service and was told that parts were ordered on that day to fix the recalled left tie rod ball stud. After no follow up from the dealer, I went back to the service department on July 10, 2104 and was told that I had 21 other customers ahead of me waiting on the same recall. Moreover, the dealership stated that they were only getting enough parts in to service only 4 trucks per month. This translates to at least a 5 month waiting period. This is unacceptable and unsafe.
This recall has been our for over 6 months for the left tie rod. There have been reported failure of this unit leading to loss of steering control. I tried to schedule a recall appointment with my dealer, towbin Dodge to have the parts replaced under this recall. I was told that I was number 42 on the list 6 months ago!! I am now number 24. The pace of replacement is criminal. There is no reason this can't be done faster specifically with such a critical steering component. . .
I have received a recall notice from Chrysler about our Ram 3500 for a left tie rod replacement. It has currently been over two months since I have been to the dealer to initiate the replacement. They are now telling me I have another 6 months of waiting due to Chrysler not shipping the parts for the recall. Chrysler has also informed me I am operating the vehicle at our own risk in the event of a part failure, and a crash. It would seem to me that since this is a huge safety issue, that they would be making the parts available so owners are not risking self injury, and injury to others by operating the vehicle. Many of these trucks are utilized in hauling horse trailers and such, and a rental cannot be found, and owners should not have to either quit driving their vehicles for extended periods of time, or be forced to pay for a rental in order to be safe.
2011 Dodge Ram 3500. Consumer writes in regards to the left tie rod ball stud recall notice. The consumer was notified of a recall at the end of December. He contacted the dealer about the notice. At that time, he was informed he would be placed on waiting list, because they were only receiving one repair kit per week, per dealer. Recall# 13v529000.
I received a recall in the mail stating that the vehicle needed to be inspected, and that a failure could result in loss of control and crashing. Made appointment to have vehicle inspected. Vehicle was inspected and found that the left tie rod end needs to be replaced. The dealership informed us that the part was not available and was on "intergalactic backorder. " I contacted Chrysler and asked about a timeline and they stated that the arrival date of the replacement parts was uncertain. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive since the tie rod is such an important part of the steering assembly and I was told that it was up to the discretion of the driver. I asked about them providing a loaner vehicle, beings that it is a safety concern and our family's primary vehicle, their reply was that they couldn't do that. I feel that it is a safety concern for my family and I, and that it is the responsibility of the Chrysler company to repair the vehicle that I purchased from them, or provide a safe and comparable vehicle until the repairs can be made.
I have the original tires on it still. I don't off road nor do I use it for commercial use. In Nov 2011, with 19k miles, I had the left tie rod replaced as the ball joint part wore out and was hanging. Then I got the notice in Dec 13 of this new tie rod issue, I thought it to be one in the same. I departed my house for work. With no notice, as I was backed out a dirt driveway, I heard a pop, it sounded like something was dragging. I stopped, looking under the front and back thinking I had picked up something, there was nothing. As I tried to move forward, the scraping sound appeared again, I stopped, looked up under the front end finding the drag link hanging about 8 inches off the tie rod end. I called the Dodge contact number in the book. This was 340 am. . I explained what happened and he stated that he would build a job order for it. I contacted the dealer,(8 am) he asked me to look at the drag link and see what type of stabilizer system I had mounted on it. I had 2 u bolt connectors about half mass of the drag link. The dealership then stated that knowing that, I needed to have the drag link replaced, and that it would be covered under this recall. He then stated that as it was mounted, the stabilizer didn't allow the drag link to rotate properly causing undue stress on the tie rod end joint. I was then told that the dealership had inspected 15 trucks so far and all 15 needed these parts replaced, but Dodge still didn't' have the replacement parts available and wouldn't be until around the 14th of April 14. Mind you this recall was put out in Dec 2013 4 months ago. . . . Still as of today with no parts currently available. . I wanted to talk to a supervisor, she said their office doesn't work like that. . . . . Every one has a supervisor some place. . . . She stated the conversation was recorded, and continued to try to push me off to the road side assistance folks.
2006 Ram 3500. Premature shoulder wear on driver front tire. Took to local mechanic and he states worn tie rod assembly to blame. Truck pulls to left and now tie rods, ball joints, u-joints, and front tires need to be replaced. Contacted Dodge January 3rd 2014 and was told recalled left tie rod assembly had been placed on order for me. Had the truck inspected by local dealer and was told they were only getting 1 tie rod a month and that I was on the waiting list. It is now April and replacement piece is still not available. I need the tie rods replaced before I can by new tires because the truck will not align with the worn out pieces that are on the vehicle now. Dodge refuses to reimburse for aftermarket parts and the customer is left holding the bag. It is going to cost me over $1600 for repair work to be performed and at least another $600 new front tires at the very least. Was hung up on by Dodge recall customer service line. No one can even tell me where I am on the waiting list. Horrid customer service. I guess Dodge will wait until they kill someone before they truly get concerned with this issue.

2011 Dodge 3500. Consumer writes in regards to left tie rod end recall issues. The consumer stated the left tie rod end broke on March 14, 2014. Fortunately, he was in a parking lot and not on the highway. He called 2 different dealerships, where he was informed, the parts were not available. The consumer was able to find an after market tie rod, and had it installed.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the driver¿s side tie rod became fractured. The contact attempted to have the vehicle repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 13v528000 (steering) but was informed that the parts were not available and would not become available until the end of April 2014. I have been on the repair list at the dealership in bryan, TX since March 7, 2014 to have the left tie rod replaced. When I called them today to see where I was on the list I am #158. The dealerships are only getting repair kits as they complete repairs. They cannot order the kit as a customer asks for the repair. This is a very dangerous issue. This truck is used to haul cattle - loss of control of the vehicle could be fatal. Dodge ram is seriously behind in providing parts to fix their recall issues.
I received a notice in mail for recall on left tie rod ball stud could crack and cause loss of control. I called the dealer lone star Chrysler in cleburne they told me there was 81 people waiting on this part because they only release 1 part every 7 days. That would put me almost a year to wait on a major steering component. This is un exceptable.
I contacted diehl automotive concerning the recall (n49/NHTSA 13v-529) the left tie rod ball stud on this truck may fracture under certain driving conditions. This would cause a loss of directional control and/or crash without warning. The service man said that he could only get the parts from Dodge at a rate of (1) per week. That means that I will have to go approximately one year before I get this repaired. This sounds like another gm screw up where it will take some lives before the highway safety administration is going to do something. It's now time to expose you all once again to the news media. Why would I have thought anything else from a government organization.
2011 Dodge Ram 3500. Consumer writes in regards to tie rod ball stud recall notice issues. The dealer informed the consumer, they were only getting one part, per week.
Left tie rod ball stud. Still waiting. What good is a truck I cant use afraid to drive could cause lose of steering. Bought from anderson Dodge in rockford illinois.
As with many of the other complaints about 2003 Dodge Ram 3500's this Ram 3500 has had all suggested steering component upgrades and recall upgrades (change steering to 2008 steering) and the tie rod recall for the 2008 steering. The 2008 steering upgrade seemed to exacerbate the tire wear issue. Additionally, ball joints and shocks have been replaced. The ram death wobble and excessive tie wear is still present. The last set of tires lasted 8,000 miles (I am putting a new set on today). The tire wear on my last trip of only 360 miles was very noticeable - so much so a trip of 1,000 miles or more would have caused dangerous tire wear and potential catastrophic failure. Dodge has tried to fix the problem by only skimming over the issue with minor fixes. As a retired law enforcement officer with hundreds of thousands of miles of driving experience - the steering and excessive tire wear is unsafe. Since I am getting new tires and an alignment today - I will be more than happy to track mileage, driving conditions, note steering issues, and photograph tire wear - if you wish.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that the tires were wearing prematurely as a result of recall NHTSA campaign number: 13v529000 (steering). The contact mentioned that he was very concerned for his safety since the parts were not available to complete the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician verified that the tires were failing because of a defective tie rod. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 75,000.
