2 Windshield problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

Approximate incident date is not accurate. The vehicle started with two lengthwise cracks years ago from windshield towards driver and passenger. Within the past two months the once rigid-pliable dash unit has cracked into brittle pieces with some falling into dash interior. Some pieces are jagged and pointed.

3 Windshield problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 01/07/2012

These trucks have a common problem with the hvac blend/mode door. The doors break and then fall down into the hvac system and block airflow to the defrost vents. This can cause a major visibility issue with you cannot defrost your windshield. The warm air will only blow through the floor or face vents, not the defrost. Windshield becomes iced or covered in snow and cannot melt to see. This is a very common problem on Dodge trucks and numerous other owners have experienced the same problem. Chrysler needs to recall this as a safety issue.

4 Windshield problem of the 2012 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Crew cab truck. Exterior ambient temperature is -f. Interior temperature approximately +f and rising; defrost setting, fan speed is set to high, high heat to defrost windshield and warm up truck. Idle time of 10 minutes or less. Truck coolant temperature approximately 135*f and climbing. All snow and other materials cleared from exterior of truck. Little to no moisture on interior of vehicle. While driving at speeds greater than 15mph while first starting out (within 20 minutes of starting vehicle) and changing elevations greater than 15 feet (rolling hills); expect to see a sudden build up of frost on the interior of the windshield causing complete loss of visibility. I have had to carry a scraper and be actively scraping the windshield to be able to see enough to get to the side of the road and wait for the windshield to clear itself. Have almost put vehicle into ditch once due to brushing snow bank with tires after first occurrence. Issue also occurs if windows are rolled down to help displace any possible moisture. Issue has occurred on several occasions and it has been reported to the local dealer and Dodge ram corporation. Have talked with several other Dodge ram owners and all are reporting similar situations. Dealer has been notified of this issue on multiple occasions by multiple people and they are stumped as to how to repair / resolve this issue. Claim it to be environmental and out of their control. Personally believe defrost system is not of proper size / configuration to prevent issue from occurring.

5 Windshield problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

Message: I drive a 3500 Dodge ram pick up truck. Recently I was beginning to have difficulty seeing due to windshield fogging up. I turned on the defroster on and there was no help in the visibility through the windshield. My visibility went to zero very quickly. I veered off the highway and into a ditch before I could get my vehicle stopped. Upon investigation of the problem, I discovered that the blend door in the hvac system had broken. The blend door directs the air to the appropriate vents as directed by the vehicle operator. The door being broken would prevent the direction of air to anywhere except the default location which in this case would be the dash vents. This is a major safety problem in this vehicle. The default location of this door should with out a doubt be the defrost location. After having this near miss I have investigated other reports of this vehicle and found that they are numerous. My determination of this safety issue is that Chrysler should immediately have a safety recall to address this issue.
