The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact was driving 65 mph when the windshield wiper failed. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the windshield wiper motor and the multi-function switch, but the failure was not corrected. The windshield wiper was not operable. The manufacturer denied assistance with the repairs. The failure mileage was 182,000 and the current mileage was 184,000.

We were driving in a heavy rain when the windshield wipers stopped. After tuning the control knob several times the wipers came on again but operated erratically, continued to run when the switch was turned off, not start when turned on, no intermittent operation. The windshield washer also did not work. If the wipers did stop when turned off they stayed up on the windshield obscuring the view. The next day the wipers were a little more reliable. After 4 days of being dry the wipers are working normally.

When using the turn indicator, either the opposite indicator comes on, or neither work. Also, the windshield wipers don't work properly. They seem to operate randomly (e. G. , work at high speed with the switch in the off position, or don't work at all with the switch in any position). It appears to me that the multi-function switch is defective. This problem nearly caused an accident while I was driving at highway speeds (60 mph)during a rainstorm and the wipers wouldn't operate. I had to drive to the side of the highway and shut off the ignition switch to resolve the problem. A less experienced driver may have had more severe consequences.
8/6/2010 4:30 pm cedartown, GA storm approaching and rain begins. Windshield wipers will only work in slow speed. Blade speed would not keep up with rainfall. Pulled over to prevent crash. New switch installed on 8/13/10.
The windshield wipers fail to operate properly on my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 in the intermittent or delay settings. Sometimes while in intermittent settings, the wiper quit working altogether. I can get them to work again by playing with the wiper switch and placing it in the high speed mode. However, this causes me to be distracted while driving down the road in the rain, with no functioning wipers. This has been happening for 6 months, with 11 repair attempts by anchorage Chrysler. To date there has been no resolution to the problem. The problem seems to occur more frequently with more moisture and more heat (ie. The longer it been exposed to rain and the longer the engine has been running).
