Resonator failed at 15,200 miles causing a dangerous situation. My Sprinter was purchased from maxwell Dodge in austin TX on my behalf by sportsmobile in austin who did an RV conversion on it. The nearest authorized dealer from my home is moss brothers Dodge in san bernardino CA they replaced the resonator on 9/18/09 with mileage at l5,308. With reports of multiple failures, including failures of a newer revision, I am concerned for my safety and others. My van is used exclusively for camping, usually in remote mountain areas with narrow steep roads, often without guard rails which do not have areas to pull over or pass. This would endanger lives in the event of a resonator failure which makes the vehicle incapable of moving on an incline as well as dangerous on a freeway when it suddenly loses power. In my research I found an aluminum resonator which eliminates the problem. Moss brothers Dodge told me they have installed this resonator, however the customer has to provide it and sign a waiver because it does not have a filter. If a problem occurs with the turbo which is determined to be caused by particles that got through the system, it would not be covered by the warranty. Please advise me on how to handle this dangerous situation. Updated 10/26/10. Updated 10/26/10.

We bought a brand new 2006 Dodge Sprinter and the engine just blew at 115,000 miles. This is unheard of in diesel engines. The vehicle was plagued from the start and the dealership clearly admitted it was "cursed" and we should have got more than 115,000 miles out of it, yet no one wants to assume responsibility for the defects.
Failed turbo resonator going to yosemite in itaska mh with Dodge 5 cyl diesel engine. This is second turbo resonator to fail and is extremely dangerous condition on 2 lane rds with few turnouts and steep banks. Dodge should recall resonators and replace with available aftermarket item. Numerous failures in RV's.

Fan pulley dislodges and tears up the front accessories. During extensive travels I have found dozens of Sprinters having had the same problem. I think that the design or materials that make up the pulley are flawed and you should investigate. I further believe the descrepency based on conversations with mechanics is well know to Dodge yet is also covered up by Dodge.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500. While driving approximately 70 mph the turbo resonator caused the vehicle to decelerate. There were no prior warning signs which as a consequence increased the risk of a serious crash and injury. The dealer replaced the turbo resonator four times. All attempts to repair the failure have been unsuccessful. A technician speculated tht poor quality and excessive heat exposure caused the component to fail. The failure mileage was 2,336 and the current mileage was 25,000. Updated 5/6/09 updated 05/08/09.
: the contact stated while driving 70 mph in heavy traffic, the vehicle lost power. The vehicle went into limp home mode and was later driven to the dealer who replaced the resonator in the turbo. Updated 09/15/06.
The crank shaft damper pully & r & r timing chain broke, rendering the vehicle immobile. Parts were replaced and 2 months later, the same thing happened.
