Driver felt resistance in steering and heard noise under dash. Drove car for some until it would not shift into park then brought in for service. Technician examining vehicle noticed small plastic parts on floor under steering column and found the lower bushing out of tube. Steering shaft was still connected.

2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 09/11/1998

Vehicle was parked on a 35 degree grade with the gear shift in "park", key in the off position and the parking brake was engaged. Driver heard two loud "pops", turned and watch as the vehicle roll down the grade and struck a tree causing extensive damage. Driver recalls hearing a clicking noise as the vehicle was rolling.
