I was approaching a stop sign and I made a complete stop as I pulled forward and attempted to make a right turn my steering failed completely. I had no control what so ever to turn left or right. With further inspection it was the lower heavy duty bluish green bearing that was no longer connected to the upper shaft inside my steering column.

Steering went out of vehicle. Had bad column replaced, and got vehicle back on Aug 29, 2013. Again steering column failed and went back out on Aug 30 , 2013. Vehicle was moving approximately 25 mph. Fortunately we were to stop the vehicle but ran into hillside, and luckily no one was hurt. The column was replaced again and additionally this time the lower shaft was replaced.
Was steering into an isle of parking spots when suddenly and without warning, the steering wheel began to spin freely and effortlessly. I immediately stopped the car because it could do nothing but go in the direction the tires were turned at the time of the steering failure, which in my case, would have been right into three parked cars. Upon inspection, the steering column had come loose from the rest of the car, causing a loss in control as far as steering was concerned. If this had happened while on the freeway, the results may have been catastrophic, not only to me, but to other drivers around me as well. Will take it directly to Ford to see what they have to say about this situation.

Steering column (lower shaft) was replaced by all american Ford in paramus NJ on 25 October 2011 with a later type shaft (per receipt a 2006 part number). Steering now binds severely at any speed, particularly along the center, in mild turns (such as on a highway). Have attempted to lubricate the u-joints, but the effect is only temporary. Vehicle is unsafe to drive at this point, and it is unacceptable that a critical system such as steering should fail so shortly in the vehicles life span.
