The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil exploded and damaged the pcm. Multiple coils and the pcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,781.
When driving the vehicle the power train problem indicator light and check engine light come on and the car loses all power. Car will not exceed 900 rpm and will barely move. I had the trouble codes read and it is indicting that the throttle is showing stuck closed and open. I believe that this is the same issue as with several other Ford models and should have been part of the extended warranty that covered the throttle bodies from several other models. This issue poses a serious safety risk do to the fact that it has happened several times and at various speeds, if this were to happen at highway speeds in heavy traffic it could be horrible. I have researched this problem extensively online and found that it is a fairly common issue with the Edge.
Edge had started to drive sluggish, could not get up to speed or get car into next gear. Driving home from vacation, car was very sluggish going up hills and rpm needle would rev high before able to shift to next gear. Check engine light came on with code of p061. Found Ford dealer locally who replaced filter. Car drove better for 1/2 day, then back to sluggish and not able to change gears. Took back to my Ford dealer, replaced maf sensor and throttle body assembly for $645. 10 months later city driving in heavy traffic, car is starting to slip into sluggish mode and having trouble shifting to next gear. Rpm needle revs high before shifting gear. Will watch closely before taking back to dealer again. Notice hundreds of complaints for same problem with the Ford Edge.
