4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

I believe it was March,2022 or April,2022 my check engine light came on 20’ before pulling into my driveway. I called “protect my car” insurance protection that I have, had my Edge towed to a repair shop and they said my antifreeze was leaking into my oil, that my water pump went out and said it was my fault as I neglected taking care of my vehicle and they have denied paying to fix it, even thought it is 100% covered. Not sure what to do as it only has 151,000 miles on it and the body is in good shape and clean inside. I had no idea the water pump went out. I’m not a mechanic and thought that’s why I was paying them for problems like this. I need help to get it fixed and never neglected it or drove it after check engine light came on.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

The wrench light will come on when driving the vehicle, and power is lost. My car will slow down to around 10-20 mph no matter where I am or how fast I am going. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed by Ford. I have been on I-10 with my husband and toddler and the vehicle goes into this "limp mode" at 80 mph! I am so terrified to drive a vehicle that I have to pay every month for. Mechanics that have looked at the car have no definitive answer to problem, they suggested that the throttle body be cleaned. We did that and it was no help. The vehicle left me and my son stranded this morning on the side of the highway because I could not get it out of the "safety limp mode". Usually, I can pull over, park, and shut the car off for a few minutes, then turn it on and it would work again. This morning, it would not reset itself. I would appreciate any help or advice on this matter.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

While driving the Ford Edge has a complete loss of power. The wrench light and battery light came on. The power steering would not work and I had to coast to the side of the road. I turned off the engine and was able to restart it. The mechanic was not able to replicate it. It has happened multiple times almost causing a wreck each time while driving in the city. Luckily it has not happened on the highway. I have had the throttle body replaced as suggested in the forums for this problem. . Read more...

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

Driving, going up a hill, the car stopped accelerating and lost power going up. I almost got into an accident. The car doesn't accelerate and it has all the fluids and changed of oils. The car clunks and has a wrench. When I put into reverse it jump a very minimum acceleration. I'm afraid to drive it. I had to tow the car. The mechanic couldn't find the problem. He said he cleared up the computer and it was fine. Then I was driving on the highway and it happened again. No acceleration. Why Ford hasn't made this into a safety recall. I did my investigation and I believe it has to do with the transmission sensors. Please help me.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

Several times now, my car will not accelerate. This has happened while going 40, 60, 70mph on the hwy. I have had to instantly put hazards on and try to pull over which isn't always easy during rush hour traffic. When this happens, I pull off, and then my car lurches forward and shifts gears and then can accelerate. This has also happened when I have been at a complete stop, and tried to accelerate. When you cannot move forward, or crawl at speeds under 5mph, but your rpms are reaching 7, there is something seriously wrong. I have taken it in a few times only to be told they cannot find or recreate the issues, so they send me on my way. It sounds as if many others are having the exact same issues. I am very nervous that my luck in pulling off out of harms way will run out. I have called my dealership to once again have it looked at but they cannot get me in for 10 days. . . . Should I even drive this car if it is not reliable?? I truly am frightened to drive now, and this is my only car and am a single mother. Not sure what I am supposed to do. I really hope that Ford recalls this, as I have read that there are several lawsuits pending this exact issue.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2017

Two weeks ago I was driving on NJ rout 9 when the transmission sounded like it was in neutral but it wasn't. All the warning lights were on and was able to drive to a safe area and stop. I did not turn the car off and exited the car and tried to open the rear doors and hatch but couldn't. Next I turned the car off and waited a few minutes before starting it. When it started, all was fine. The next morning I drove it to a transmission shop without incident. There was only 62,000 miles on it at the time but the warranty expired because it was more than seven years. The oss was replaced at a cost of 750. 00. This is not the firs major issue with this vehicle. Less than one year ago two coils faulted causing a back feed of too much voltage to the computer causing it to fry. A cost of more than 3,000. 00 to repair.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

My 2008 Ford Edge (since I brought it) has been having the same issue. When driving the vehicle, all of the lights on the panel will light up( wrench light, aigbag light, ire pressure light. . . Etc) the odometer will go off and have only dashes, the car will then have a loss of acceleration. The car feels like it is trying really hard to stay in gear or change gears. This will happen on the highway going 60mph as well as local roads at lower speeds. I will have to put my hazards on and pull over on the side. We figured out that if you disconnect the cables on the battery for a few minutes then reconnect the car will then run again ok. This is a serious hazard. I have almost been hit several times on the highway due to this issue and have been hit from behind getting on the highway already. I have taken the car to Ford several times only to be told that there is "no code reading" so they can not diagnose the problem. I have researched this to find out if other Ford Edges have the same issue and I came across a slew of other Ford Edge owners with the same issue. I have contacted Ford several times to be told that there are no recalls on this.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2016

As everyone else, loses acceleration, shut off and it seems fine later. High rpm no power, as if it cant shift. No error lights, shaking along with sputtering when it has a load. . . . . Very dangerous as I drive major highway daily. Has been happening more frequently now.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2016

When I was driving to work all of a sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and I have no speedometer or tachometer reading. If I pulled over and starting driving again I had very little pickup even though the rpms were over 2,000. There is also a very loud clunk when you put it in drive or reverse.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

On approximately 7/6/2016, while in motion, traveling north on riverside drive -I-55 north, on the 2-lane overpass at I-55 & mclemore, 18 wheeler was to the right and I was behind another motorist in line and traveling about 70 mph with a line of vehicles behind, it was after work rush hour 4:45pm; when as I am driving the vehicle sputters, seemed to it lose power, decelerates in the middle of on going traffic. The engine light flashed and then stayed illuminated, I could not accelerate in order get off to the side of the highway and traffic was at a very fast flow. My sync system surged, a-c stopped blowing cold air, the vehicle started "missing" but the vehicle did not shut off. Took the vehicle to advance auto parts store and was told that I had a misfire in 3 of the ignition coils, bought replacement coils and had all 6 of them replaced. Start the vehicle and the engine light was cleared but came right back, the vehicle is still miss firing on the exact same coils this time along with the pcm. Out of hundreds of dollars at the moment and it looks like I will be out of $3000 to Ford for an issue that they know is faulty within the design of the computer. We've already paid $30,000 for the vehicle, why would Ford not recall and repair these issues if they are aware of it????.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

Car loses all power unexpectedly and randomly, at any and all speeds, anywhere, anytime, displaying odo data error, transmission violently shakes into gears, car revs up but does not accelarate, upon turning car off, removing key, opening door, reinserting and restarting car (if you managed to safely pull on the side of the road), all error displays disappear, transmission clunks in gear and car needs to be forced to rev up to reset, once it resets car drives normally again till next failure. Ford dealers unable to diagnose problem as it leaves no codes. First time charged $800 for "possible" cause that wasn't, now $1700 as pcm melted and took along with it all ignition coils. Guess what, odo data error and transmission trouble still present. Both the Ford company and you people at the NHTSA need to step up to the plate and if Ford doesn't voluntarily recall the Edge, you ought to force them to recall it before someone gets mauled. This auto defect is an absolute danger to the operator and anyone else on the road.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

My brakes started off feeling very stiff, then would sink into floor while making a hissing sound. Often barely stopping. When stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start sputtering like it is going to shut off, when I let off the brake it will run fine. There were no warning or indications that there was a problem and I have nearly wrecked multiple times. I contacted the local Ford service department and was informed that they have fixed this same problem in several of the Ford Edge suvs and that it would cost between $600 and $700 to repair. If so many people are having the same issue why has Ford not put out a recall on this?.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

Bought my 2008 Ford Edge 3 years ago with no problems. Had some work done after a wreck year and a half ago. After the repair, it began jerking whether I was on the highway or city streets. I noticed that when it jerks, I lose rpms at the same time. I have to hit the gas to get it to accelerate. Feels like the gears are slipping and it doesn't happen t consistent speeds. Some days are worse than others and some days doesn't occur at all. It will also idle rough and had before jerked when going from reverse to drive. Also, April 2014, I was backing into a parking spot when the car completely died. I turned the ignition off and then started the car again. It started right up. That is the only time that has happened.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

I was stoped at stop sign my 2008 Ford Edge with no signs of problems. When I started to pull out there was low power and the wrench signal went on. Car would not go faster then 5mph. I was very concerned for cars in back of were impatient and passing. I researched this problem on the inertnet and it seems to be happening with alot of these make and model cars.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Entering highway and auto would not shift gears or accelerate. Stayed idle at over 5 rpm's and had to pull off the road. Seemed like a transmission problem. Towed to repair shop for assessment. Still at shop. This vehicle on multiple occasions before this incident has regularly engaged in a violent jerk when I have engaged it in drive or reverse. Seems like a transmission issue but dealer wont do anything unless they can duplicate problem. I have seen and know of numerous other Ford Edge owners that have had the same issue and no fix has been found or dealer and Ford wont fix unless it duplicated the issue while they have the vehicle and most times its something not covered. This is a serious safety issue and they need to be held accountable.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

I own a 2008 Ford Edge. Recently I noticed my Edge having a hard time shifting into fast mode. I took it to the Ford dealership, nothing is wrong. Today it was horrible!!! I get to the stop light, my Edge would not "take off" like the other cars. I sat there embarrassed for two mins trying to press the accelerator, Edge finally jerked and then took off. I am very disappointed in Ford. I can't believe they have not recalled this Edge. Now, I have to pay to get Edge fixed when Ford could fix the issue,. There are thousands of people complaining about this vehicle.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I see similar complaints on your web site, about rough shifting into reverse from the parked position and when backing up from the drive position. Is there a planed recall for this issue?.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

Transmission seems to be a issue with the Ford Edge. Why has there not been a recall on this product? so many complaints on the Ford Edge transmission. I witness this first hand, may 2, 2014. While driving on the high way, my car out of know where seem to have lost power. The only thing that was moving was the rpm, but the car was slowing down. Finally after pulling to the side of the highway, and turning the car off, it reset some how and at least got me to work. I had to get the car towed from work back home because I did not want to run into the same issue. I did research and seems like I have not been the only one with this issue. Matter of fact there is a long list on you tube. What has Ford done to correct this issue. Other than repeatedly taking income from hard working consumers, for a issue that has not been resolved.
