1 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2018

Stalls and won't accelerate while going down the road. Just idles real rough. Can only coast to a stop. Can't steer. Wrench comes on the display. Everything I have read said it is probably the throttle body. Has less than 40,000 miles.

2 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

Driving 60mph on highway and car without warning lost power and stalled. On freeway. Very dangerous, a semi had to swerve to avoid me. Put car in park and after a few minutes the card started back up and drove without problems. This has happened three times without warning and after a bit of time starts back up and drives fine.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2018

I took a left turn to get onto the interstate on 7/30/18 at 7:45 am. When I started to accelerate to merge onto interstate without warning my car stalled and I was not able to accelerate. I was able to pull over thankfully and turn my emergency lights on. My car started to "jump" and was basically stalling out. I turned the car off and then after 5 minutes I was able to turn the car back on and it ran fine. I brought the car to my local Ford dealership and they kept it for two days. They tried to recreate the issue but were unable to and said they could not read the error on the computer because it had been "wiped" out when I restarted my car. They told me to come back when the car stalls again. I feel very unsafe driving a car that can stall out and lose power at any minute. I drive a 24 mile bridge with no shoulders daily and interstates. I do not feel safe driving my son around in this car. Ford will not do anything for me until the car stalls again. They told me not to turn it off and "limp" it to the dealership(drive it slowly).

4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

I own a 2011 Ford Edge limited with a 3. 5l, 6 cylinder engine. The vehicle has been faithfully maintained since I purchased it at ~30,000 miles. On 5/25/2018 while driving out-of-state and with approximately 120,000 miles the vehicle began exhibiting symptoms of stalling at stops and while parking; there were no warning lights or indications of trouble. Pulling off the road I inspected the automatic transmission fluid first, since that seemed the most-likely culprit. During this check I overheard a lot of noise as hot coolant was being ejected into the coolant overflow reservoir and it was while the car was parked that the overheat indicator first sounded. After shutting off the engine I noticed water on the pavement under the vehicle. I arranged for the vehicle to be towed to a Ford dealership where it was determined the coolant pump had failed. Though completely without symptoms until the final few minutes, because the pump is driven by the engine's timing chain, enough damage had been done that a significant amount of coolant had entered the engine. The engine would start, but pressures in cylinders 2 and 4 were compromised and unknown other damage had occurred. The Ford service advised that the pump replacement would cost on the order of $2,000 and that life-expectancy for the part was 150,000 miles - two numbers that seem incongruous by themselves for a maintenance item. In addition, the absence of a cooling system warning facilitated driving the vehicle while catastrophic damage was caused to the engine.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

Vehicle stalls during operation. This has occurred approximately 6 times in the last 60 days. It goes into limp mode showing " awd off" and the "wrench" icon. Contacted Ford concerning the customer satisfaction program 16b23 related to this but was denied coverage. The vehicle sat at the dealership for three days without them being able to repeat the issue. The problem will reset when the vehicle is turned off, and no history is captured. The code that we just discovered during an episode is a p2111 code acquired by a can buss reader as it happened in traffic in motion on a city street. Pulled to the side of the road and turned it off and it reset. This is dangerous ! my grandchildren ride in this vehicle. This vehicle has less than 55k miles since new. It's frustrating to know that Ford is aware of the issue and chooses to refuse the problem until someone is injured or killed.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

Car stalls after slowing, almost stopped on a city street. This has happened four (4) times over the last few weeks. After coasting to the side of the road and turning ignition off, car restarts and resumes normal operation.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

Throttle body suspected: 2011 Ford 3. 5l Edge decelerating and stalling at random. Vehicle stranded in middle of roadway until pushed to side of the road. Turning vehicle off then back on corrects issue until the next random event. This has happened 4 times with this vehicle.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While turning the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and power train warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart on the second attempt, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to two different dealers, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2016

Car has stalled two times, one time was while driving and turning into oncoming traffic. The car was going full speed 55mph , had no issues leading up to it, I slowed down to run and it completely shut down - no power steering, no acceleration it was dead, the engine was off but the car was still on. Obviously this was a horrible time for it to die. I was able to, barely, make the turn without power steering and pull over. I shut the car off, turned it back on and it was fine. The other time it happened was my 16 year old daughter had just started the car, put it in reverse, again the car on but nothing was happening. The issue I have here is judging by the online posts this is happening to a lot of Ford SUV's but because this isn't a recall the service people have to see it actually happening, so it never can get fixed, because it is very intermittent. I am very disappointed in Ford and not issuing a recall, putting lives in danger - I will be selling all of our Fords ( we have 3).

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2015

While driving on interstate the vehicle all of a sudden stalled. The engine was still on and running but while depressing the accelerator there was no response. Was forced to carefully pull off to the side of the road. Turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle started with no problem. This was a scary situation no one should have to go through. The vehicle was checked out by 2 mechanics and they could not diagnose a problem. Checked with Ford and was no told there were no recalls, after I explained my situation. After researching the internet I realized others were having similar problems. Throttle body housing issues were described repeatedly. At my expense had the throttle body housing assembly removed and replaced. This is a very serious situation that needs addressing by Ford motor company. As a retired houston firefighter I saw my share of horrible injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents. The car in question belongs to my daughter and it is her first. If anything were to happen to her my family would be crushed. I am seeking some answers to why Ford has not done something about this major problem. This is a major problem that not only needs addressing but needs to be resolved before someone is affected in a tragic way.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Car stalled twice. Previous complaint filed but I called after finding recall number 10s14. Claled Ford and they told me not covering my VIN even though situation is the exact same happenings. Your rep told me to file a new complaint becasue he coud not update the one previously submitted; odi number 10715241. He stated that they would investiage and psossible add my VIN to be covered under this recall.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Car stalled three times. Power went off and I was almost rear ended. Told it's the throttle accuator stuck open. Error 2111, picture of wrench and now engine light on. Even though I found this on your website fird refused to cover. May of the same complaints on all social media sites. Ford gave me case number cas7141825.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2015

My throttle body has gone out on my Edge causing my car to completely stall out in rush hour traffic and on the highways. I have read forums about many warranty extensions that Ford put on vehicles very similar to my own because of this issue but mine was not one of those. I'm now having to pay $800 to fix a problem that Ford created!.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed the throttle body needed to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,435. Sr.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

While driving through an intersection, vehicles stalled. "awd fail" light exhibited. Turned off ignition and restarted. Second event, same circumstances, again had to coast to side of intersection to restart. Same indications. Took to dealership and diagnosed as throttle body failure. Had to be replaced. Concerns: (1) safety (2) throttle body should not be failing with this few miles (3) Ford forum indicates that this is a recurring issue with other Ford Edge vehicles. But there has been no recall or extended warranty.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

I was driving 25 miles per hour on a major roadway and for no reason the car lost acceleration. The engine began to shake and gasp. After I lost power to the engine I could only drive one mile an hour to try to get off the road in heavy traffic. I did not get in an accident but it could have easily happened. A yellow warning wrech icon appeared. I turned off the car. I restarted the car and the problem resolved. I took it to a repair shop and they cleaned the throttle body because no error codes were found and it was dirty. It happened again one week later when I was travelling 50 miles per hour. I tried to drive to a dealership to keep the wrench icon on but the car stalled. I restarted and the problem resolved but I continued to a Ford dealership. Once again there was no code. I have researched this on the internet and it is happening to others as well. This is very dangerous and I am lucky it did not cause an accident. This should be recalled and repaired by Ford.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

Was driving in busy residential area and the car started to shudder and eventually lost all power to the engine and the dashboard displayed a wrench symbol. It seemed like it was going to stall. I was able to get to the side of the road. I then turned the engine off and upon restarting was able to drive the short distance to the dealer. The dealer performed a pcm reprogram. Per the diagnostic notes, after getting a code of p260f they reprogrammed the car to the latest calibration, test drove it (approx 9 miles) and no sign of the problem. I picked the car up on Friday, sept 5. Today, sept 7, 2014, just 2 days after "fixing" the problem, the exact same thing happened. Similar speed, car started to shake and unresponsive to accelerator. Fortunately, I was at nearly the same location so I was able to get to the side of the road without incident. After researching the issue, this appears to a pretty common problem in the Ford Edge owner community. However, if this issue were to happen while driving on a freeway, the outcome might be very different. Hoping someone can help with this issue. I no longer feel safe driving this car.

20 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

Base model: in first week of August 2014, it experienced sudden loss of speed and severe vibration while driving on major thouroughfare street. It was unable to be driven and could not be moved out of the way. The "wrench" sign came up. After turning it off and waiting for about a 2-3 mins, it did start like normal. We brought to the dealership the same day. First we were told that it just needs computer reset and would cost $75, then they ultimately did it for free, while performing 30k miles services same day. Three month later I started experiencing the same issue again. I called the dearlership and was told to bring it in. I did not have time for about a week due to tight work schedule, but during that week it kept occuring again, happened 3-4 times. Finally when it went for service at the dealership, they told me that it is throttle issue and quoted me about $800 to fix it. Upon further inquiring with technician, he told that this is not an uncommon issue on Ford vehicles. Ford esape and fusion have been recalled to fix it under extended warranty for the similar problem, but Ford Edge has not been still covered for this issues. There is a fundamental problem with how Ford has been handling the issue for the Edge. What I have found that Ford has not allowing / giving out service center to use the code to explore the black box right away if this issue comes up which leads to delay in finding out what exactly is wrong with it. This is very dangerous situation. If you are driving on major interstate or making a turn, sudden decelaration and stalling could be life threatening for the all passangers in the car. Nhtsa has dropped the ball by not forcing Ford to recall Ford Edge and have just enforced customer satisfaction program instead of recall. I hope the NHTSA does not wait till the fatalities are reported. ( car is under my wife's name).

21 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2014

Vehicle stalls while driving it, has happened 5 times in the last 6 months, Ford service can not diagnose.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The dealer stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 44,200.

23 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2014

Driving 43mph, my vehicle stalled while driving. The awd off and wrench icon indicators appeared on the dashboard. I had to swerve onto the median to avoid being rear-ended. This happened again on June 16, 17, 24 & 25. This has happened at varying speeds, faster and slower than the first incident. It ended up being the throttle body, and conveniently just 4000 miles past the warranty expiration. I was told by two separate mechanics that this is something they've seen many times, and if it were one of two other Ford models, it would be covered under the extended warranty plan by Ford. It is the same part in all vehicles, but only covered in certain models? this faulty part is putting people's lives at risk, or at minimum putting them in unnecessary danger of an accident and resulting financial damages that follow. If it's a known issue with the part, why is this allowed to continue? and why are only certain models covered? $600 later and I don't trust that my problem is solved.

24 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

25 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and then stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts and resumed normally however, the failure recurred five times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 25,640.

26 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

While dirving the car the car 'stalled' meaning I had no ability to accelerate the car, all other items worked ok, an amber wrench light came on, I pulled over, restarted the car and it worked fine. It happend again 3 days later approx the same speed. Seeming this has been an issue among other Ford Edge cars.

27 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Vehicle inadvertently goes into limp mode for no apparent reason. All service has been performed as recommended. It has happened on the interstate, downtown traffic and pulling into streets with on coming traffic. Extremely dangerous in heavy traffic situations. I have al most been hit several times. It will go for several hundred miles with no problem, then it will begin stalling and do it multiple times within 1/4 mile of each other.

28 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

As I was leaving work and pulled out of the parking lot onto the main road and my car stalled after reaching approx 10-15 mph indicating me to "see manual" with a wrench on the screen then flashing "check engine oil pressure". As I came to a complete stop my Edge began to shake violently and the rpm's began to jump up and down frantically. I then turned my Edge off for 30 seconds. When I restarted it, it started without issue and idled fine. I was able to back it up and drive it under 10 mph to park it over night. The following day (today) when I went to take it to the dealership the same thing happened except this time around only the "see manual" indicator flashed and I had to have it towed to the local Ford dealership for servicing. Still no word on what it could possibly be. I checked the oil level, it was normal and have been having it serviced every 3,000 miles.

29 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

I had been having on-going issues with enging surging, stalling and gear "skipping" since I first purchased the vehicle in December 2010, which I had reported to the dealership and about which I was in the midst of lemon law proceedings under GA lemon law. . Read more...

30 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2012

This is the 3rd time in the past 3 months that my Ford Edge has stalled. The first two times were on the highway going 55mph. This time was in my neighborhood going 35mph. Car just sporadically goes "limp" and loses all acceleration, with wrench light coming on. Have been able to coast to side of road each time. Ford refuses to fix. They keep saying they can't duplicate the problem. I'm going to get killed in this car if something isn't done about it. Apparently I'm not the only consumer with this issue.

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Twice after backing up and shifting the car from reverse to drive, the car stalled/shut off. The first time it occurred after backing onto a busy street. While pushing on the gas with no forward movement, I saw a message displayed in the dash that the car must be in park to start. I was extremely lucky that in that instance I had enough time to start the vehicle and move prior to traffic reaching me as it occurred on a busy street. The approximate date for the first occurrence was in June of 2011. The second was on July 5, 2011, with approximately 2,450 miles. On November 3, 2011, and November 29, 2011, my cars battery died resulting in needing to call Ford roadside assistance to tow it to the dealer. Prior to that, I twice had a battery saver message displayed after I shut off my car, although everything was off. While at the dealer the second time it happened, the battery died for the third time after approximately 8 hours. The battery test always reported that the battery was okay. After a week at the shop they were still unable to determine the cause. Two times my vehicle would not recognize that I had the key in my possession within the vehicle and therefore would not start. I do not know if all of these issues are possibly interconnected with the computer system.
