The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, a loud noise was heard from under the hood and near the engine. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not accelerate. The failure occurred without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle could accelerate only 5 mph for half a distance, and the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to the bowditch collision center (Ford dealer) located at 975 j. Clyde morris blvd, newport news, va 23601; (757) 595-2210 where it was diagnosed that the entire engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-392-3673 and was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not part of the recall, they will not be able to do anything and that the contact would need to pay for the repair. The manufacturer also informed the contact to call the NHTSA and a case number 12730423 was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
