1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2016

While driving car just shuts off, cannot accelerate . Wrench light comes on. I have researched this and numerous Fords have same issue. They all come back with throttle body replacement. I called Ford motor company to ask about issue and to see if any recalls are out. No was the answer. How can there be no recalls when there are hundreds (probably thousands) having this problem. Ford escape, explorer and some trucks did have a recall. . . . Why not the Edge. I'm am about to put out over 600 dollars to get this problem fixed. I believe Ford should be made to issue a recall and stand behind their product. I'm just grateful that out of the 7 or 8 times this happened that nobody was hurt or worse make Ford stand behind their cars. . . Damnit I'm sick of putting out thousands and getting crap in return. Ps. Down below when you asked when this happened. . . . There are several dates not just one.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Was driving down highway and the powertrain malfunction warning came on. I was unable to drive the car just shutdown.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

On 9/9 I left orange beach al to drive home to jonesboro ar with my 2011 Ford Edge - it quit on me at least 45 times. I went to 2 Ford dealers, one mechanic on the road. First Ford dealer had no clue how to fix it and told me to leave 3 or 4 days. Next Ford dealer wanted 1500. 00 4 hours and maybe more. So I kept driving since part costs 184. 00. When driving the car just shuts off. No power steering, now brakes no nothing. If I could I got to the side of the road and turned on my flashers. I waited a few minutes and cranked it back up. Several times on the one lane road headed into hattiesburg I almost got rear ended by 18 wheelers and no side area to pull over - my car just quit - stopped and I stopped. I got to jackson 6 lane road 5:00 p. M rush hour and my car quit 6 times and I almost got hit there several times. My wrench icon comes on, my oil light came on, my engine light is on now also. The car abruptly stops - this is very dangerous - my husband got a car hauler and headed toward me and met me out of jackson. Once, it stopped to abruptly that my dogs hit the dashboard in the front seat and were so scared. They were in the backseat. I have grandchildren that ride with me - so can you imagine the issues that could happen when this car just shuts off. This is a severe problem that Ford needs to address this and so does safercar. Gov. I called Ford today and they all but laughed at me and said I needed to get a new throttle body installed and pay for it that the 2011 Ford Edge was not included in the consumer satisfaction program 13n03 that I found on a website. This is a very dangerous problem that Ford needs to address immediately. I could have died yesterday trying to get home - did Ford care no - they will when someone dies.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2014

Driving in residential area @ 35mph. Wrench light came on, car would no longer accelerate and was coasted to the side of the road. Car was turned off and then back on and was able to be driven without problem. Same event previously described occurred again. 1. 5hrs later. This event happened at a light that had just turned green and the car had to be stopped in a turn lane, turned off and back on, causing a disturbance in traffic patterns. At this point, the dealership was called and notified that I was bringing the car in for immediate service. The car then shut off again and my husband and I decided it was not safe for me to travel 25mi to dealership where car was purchased. We went to the nearest Ford dealership, approx. 5 mi away. In route to nearest dealership on interstate going 65mph the car shut off. I was able to get the car over on the shoulder to stop the engine. The area where my car came to a stop was right around a blind bend in the road. The car was restarted and I drove forward while still on the shoulder in hopes that I would be able to get around the bend in the road and be able to safely accelerate and merge back into traffic without doing so blindly. I exited the interstate onto secondary roads less than 1mi later. The car shut off 4 more times while driving to the dealership. One of these times was in the middle of a high traffic intersection which involved 3 lanes of traffic each way. My vehicle was serviced and returned to me that evening. Throttle body was replaced,costing$693. Less than 1mi from the dealership the car would no longer accelerate and came to a complete stop while in the turn lane of an intersection during high volume traffic hrs. It would not restart. Dealership notified, their tow service estimated 90min wait. Local police notified due to major disruption in traffic & fear of safety. Waited 45min, then had car towed at my expense.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

I had just purchased my 2011 Ford Edge sel driving it for the first time after driving it home. I was driving on a two lane hwy when I lost power, a warning came up on the dash awd off with the little tool beside it. I had to coast off to the side of the road and thankfully there was a place to pull over. I waited a few minutes then restarted the car and it drove fine until 1 week later while I was driving on the interstate it did the exact same thing, the car shut down again. I did make it to the side of the road this time it did not want to start so I waited alittle longer and tried again and it did start back up. I pulled out and less than 1/2 mile down the road it shut down again. I managed to get it to the side of the road turned everything off restarted it again. All of this happened at night with just me and my son, we were scared to death . I did make it home that night. I called the dealership where I purchased the car and was told that they couldn't see me until 1 week and 2 days later. I took it to the dealerships service dept today and was told that they can't help me with my car since it is a Ford and they are a chevy dealer and I need to take it to their Ford dealership. I should have been told this before I drove an unsafe car 45 minuted down the road. After complaining to the salesman who sold me the car , they are going to take it to the Ford service dept for me (its 3hrs from my house) but that is not until next week. I am stuck with an unsafe car to drive that I just purchased and haven't even made the first payment .

6 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

This is now the seventh time I've lost all power while driving. The car completely shuts down, steering becomes uncontrollable and the oil pressure light comes on. I've taken to the dealership and I'm being told the car has no codes of what happened and they can't repair. I'm not sure how a computer doesn't register a low oil pressure light or how it's not hard coded somewhere in the computer system that the car just cut out at 35mph to 60 mph I have no warning that this is about to happen, I lost my steering, car shuts down, brakes do not work. Ford has no idea on how to fix this. I pull over and wait a few minutes crank up and go, sometimes it does it 5 to 6 times in a row before I can get to the dealer. Also, my driver's side door always keeps the door ajar light on, Ford has no clue how to fix this either- the interior lights stays on the whole time also. I have taken it in several times for this also and they can't fix it. I bought this car used and it was great for one year and now it has many problems which I believe it did when I bought it. I now put 93 octane in it just to see if that helps, I have put engine cleaner in it, had all the filters changed every 3 months, nothing seems to work. I do have grandchildren and worry that an accident could happen due to this malfunction. How do I go about filing against Ford for the lemon law.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

Over the last month, my vehicle has had stalling issues while idling. All of the times it has occurred while my vehicle is idling at a red light and the vehicle sounds like the engine shuts off then jumps back on. However, one of the times, my vehicle completely stalled and I had to put my vehicle in park, turn it off then turn it back on. During this time the light had turned green and luckily no one was behind me. My local Ford dealer is fixing this issue, however, they are saying it is not covered under the Ford certified pre-owned comprehensive limited warranty or the Ford certified pre-owned powertrain limited warranty. I researched this issue and noticed other Ford and Lincoln models have had the same issue and are within the same year as my Ford Edge was manufactured, 2011.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2013

Traveling on interstate highway the engine shut down and a wrench warning symbol appeared on dash board. Turned off car and restarted all cleared. Took to dealer and they could find nothing on computer. Happen again on trip to florida and twice more back at home. Dealer again check and said could find nothing. There is definitely something going wrong and it a serious hazard when you are traveling at interstate speed and the car engine, power steering, and brakes stop working. Car goes into creep mode until you stop turn off engine and restart.
