general problems of the 2019 Ford Edge - part 1

Shudder at low speed gear. Changes.

I was experiencing shuddering, hard shifting, and jerking while driving my vehicle. I brought it into the shop and was told my transmission was bad. I was quoted $7500 for a re-built transmission, labor and reprogramming. My vehicle has 97,000 miles on but it isn't worth putting that kind of money into. I purchased my 2019 Ford Edge new and have been the only owner. I have maintained my vehicle, taken very good care of it an done all maintenance when suggested. It certainly should go further than 97,000 miles. I am extremely disappointed - - especially now after doing some research and found out that the 2019 Ford Edge is "known" for transmission issues but Ford has done nothing about it. Shame!.

Our Edge titanium had been experiencing intermittant hesitation and shuttering on acceleration and decelleration for 3 or 4 weeks. The car has 105,000 miles on it. During this time frame the spark plugs were changed, the trans fluid was drained and replaced twice and an additive (shutter fix) was put in. The shuttering and hesitation was becoming more frequent despited completing all of the reccomendations from a local mechanic. On xxx my wifte was diving home, when he slowed down to exit the hwy to enter the subdivision, the transmission just disengauged and an erro code appeared p07e6. (stuck in park) service soon. She had enough momentum to barely exit off [xxx], if there was on coming traffic she would have been a sitting duck. Se shut the car off and let it sit for a couple of minutes and the restarted it and headed the 2 blocks home. I immediatly took it to the dealer. The got the code and said it indicated a park pawl failure. They said it must be sticking and the computer thought you were in park when you were driving so it shut things down. The dealer says he has had to replace several of these 8 speed transmissions at an out the door price of $11,000. He says if he can rebuild it, it might only be $7,500. Most mechanics in spearfish say they have heard there are problems with the 8 speed transmission. I believe failing at 104,000 miles is a sign of a bad product. And this faulty park pawl is a safety hazzard that may get someone killed if it shuts down with on coming traffic. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. I have contacted several Ford service departments seeking repair of my defective 8f35 transmission. A diagnosis for which I paid $215 indicates a new planetary gearset and torque converter, along with miscellaneous small parts, are required. The repair quotation is $4,531. Although my car is now post-warranty, I believe full coverage is appropriate for two reasons: 1) this problem was first reported to and serviced by a Ford dealership while the factory powertrain warranty was in force. The dealer performed TSB 21-2389, a software reload, which provided only temporary resolution; 2) this is a well-known and well-documented factory defect involving the needle bearings in the planetary gearset. Failure of these bearings releases particulate into the fluid which then damages the torque converter. Based on the quotation, I requested and received help from Ford's financial goodwill assistance program, but only 40% of the total cost. To obtain a higher amount requires the assistance of the service manager and others within the Ford hierarchy, but they are not interested in helping. Service departments I have dealt with successfully on previous occasions are not touching this 8f35 problem. My cynical side suspects something nefarious is happening behind the scenes, and satisfactory resolution will require a mandatory recall be issued by NHTSA.

The torgue converted failed and is throwing metal into the transmission.

My wife was driving her 2019 Ford Edge titanium when the transmission started to shudder and clunk. Then the car completely shutdown in the middle of a busy intersection. This transmission failure at such a low mileage (less than 70,000 miles) is unacceptable and the risk of losing control of the car poses a safety concern.

I purchased my 2019 Ford Edge titanium in April 2021 with 12k miles on it. June 2023, I had to replace the torque converter at 52k miles. In March 2024, I replaced the purge valve. January 2026, I started having shuddering at takeoff and a jerk when shifting from park to reverse. I had a tune up completed and fuel injector replacement. July 2026, I started having shuddering at takeoff again. Rapidly progressed to loss of acceleration and my air would not blow cold. It’s been at the shop 2 weeks now and I still owe on it. I’ll never purchase another Ford! I’ve read way too many people online having the same issues I’m experiencing and there’s no recall. My son and I could have been seriously hurt if that loss of acceleration occurred on the interstate.

The transmission in my 2019 Ford Edge with 82,595 miles completely broke down/stopped working, not allowing me to shift gears or engage the transmission at all. . No warning lamps or other indicators prior to this problem were present. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer (dean sellers Ford, troy, michigan). The dealer reports the transmission has to be completely replaced as it has "suspected internal planetary damage" and the recommended repair is to "replace the transmission and cooler" at the cost of almost $14,000. 00. This is complete unacceptable for car that is 7 years old, regularly maintained at the same dealership and has less than 83,000 miles to warrant a complete transmission failure, requiring this large and costly repair which almost outweighs the value of the car and can only lead me as the consumer to believe the transmission was faulty and defective to fail at such an early life cycle. Ford has failed to offer any resolution or provide an explanation why this large expensive component in their vehicle failed without warning and prematurely.

Transmission began to jerk at about 40 mph. Dealership said I needed a new transmission. There was a warning light came on teice and disappeared after I shut the cat down and restarted it.

Full transmission failure, resulting in a full transmission replacement required. The problem has been confirmed by more than one independent service center. The check engline light came on and off for about week before the official diagnosis. From what I've found this is a common issue that many many owners have also had and suggested filling an official complaint here so that Ford is held responsible.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds between 2nd and 5th gears, the vehicle shuddered abnormally. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local independent mechanic where it was scanned with an obd2 scanner; however, no failure codes were retrieved. The independent mechanic associated the failure with the transmission and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with a possible torque converter failure; however, the vehicle needed further diagnostic tests. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

This is the second Ford Edge that my family has owned. We traded in our 2020 Ford Edge when its transmission torque converter failed at just over 100,000mi and the cost to repair was as much as the car was worth. The torque converter on our current Ford Edge (2019) just failed at 57,000mi and again, the cost to repair is as much as the car is worth. The failed torque converter caused immediate heavy stutter and lack of power on acceleration, as well as significant jolting of the vehicle when gears changed (both accelerating and decelerating). I have recently learned that these Edge model years are plagued with a faulty transmission that prematurely fails making driving dangerous and a repair extremely costly.

While driving under 35mph vehicle starts to chatter or shudder with a mileage of 52968. Also, while trying to accelerate the vehicle seemed to jump out gear. This could cause a possible accident from following vehicles. The vehicle is set to go to the dealership on 6/10/2026. While there are no visible warning lights illuminated, I believe this to be a safety concern for those driving the vehicle themselves and to the traffic around them.

When accelerating at low speeds the transmission bucks and/or surges so that the car stutters. This is currently happening, two mechanics have checked and see no misfiring and there is no warning light showing but there is clearly some sort of issue with the transmission. This sounds very similar to a recall made in other Ford Edges, I am able to bring it in for inspection upon request. This constant jerking motion impacts safety of myself as the driver and my passengers as it's consistently changing the field of vision when it's pulsing and it is causing motion sickness on extended drives. This has started happening every time I drive and it is unavoidable.

Gears stopped engaging while driving. After diagnostic, the shop asked me to replace the transmission. The repair shop would have my old transmission after I get the car repaired. I won't have it in my possession. As I was driving on m39 on my way to work, car was making creaking whining noise when changing gears and suddenly, it stopped changing gears in the middle of a fast moving, narrow highway. I had to pull over to inspect the issue. Didn't see any warning lights at the time. Drive engaged again, which allowed me to take the car to work but once there, reverse stopped engaging completely and there was a significant delay for drive to engage. This is when the warning lights and messages came on. Brighton Ford dealership in brighton mi has confirmed that there are metal shavings in the transmission and reverse gear no longer engages. I have been asked to replace the transmission my car only gets serviced at brighton Ford. I was not told about any transmission issues. All the inspections that they performed during routine services did not result in any concerns. I did not notice any transmission issues in my vehicle prior to that morning. All the issues I described above happened for the first time that morning. This issue occurred without any warning or symptoms.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the transmission seized in park(p) and failed to shift into drive(d). The contact stated that the transmission had previously been replaced. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the transmission had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 26v402000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

My transmission shuddered and became inoperable. We were traveling on interstate 25 just north of denver, CO when this happened, and we had to get out and push the vehicle to the side and have the vehicle towed. The safety of my family were put at risk due to this issue. As of writing this, the vehicle has yet to be seen by the dealer. There were no warning lamps on the vehicle prior to this issue occurring.

Repeated torque converter failure and repairs. Has been repaired ant dealership under warranty multiple times and keeps failing. 2 months after last repair the torque converter failed again causing damage to the transmission and engine stoppage on the highway.

Bought a used 2019 Ford Edge, and transmission had issues within 2weeks of minimal operation!! transmission slippage, does not go into gear or has a long pause going into gear (even right from park). Very hard shifts in lower gears upon upshift and downshift. Also, gets worse the longer you drive it. It jerks, bucks, lurches, snaps your neck forward or backward, or does not go at all!! after this happens for a few minutes, it wouldn't even go into reverse!! that's just trying to drive it. As you might imagine, it's quite difficult to concentrate on road signs, hazards, pedestrians, and other cars whilst you're trying to drive this thing!! how could Ford possibly even think this is a safe vehicle!!.

Car shudders, bucks, jerks when shifting between 20-40mph. After performing software updates, the car is still experiencing same issues and requires the transmission to be replaced.

There has been an ongoing issue! changed the sparks plugs, coils everything. The car will shake. It will be fine then the acceleration was slow, pressed the gas again then the check engine light will come on and blink. There has been many issues with this car. My engine is blown!.

Torque converter and transmission failed just outside of the powetrain mileage limit. The compenents were replaced in January 2026 and have failed again as of may 2026. Ford is of no assistance to the customer for the failure.

Car was repeatedly hesitating and shuddering during normal stop/go driving. Took it to the dealer and it was diagnosed with a "torque converter" issue (estimated cost of repairs is $4100). After researching this more, this looks to be a known issue with Ford 6-speed automatic transmissions. The hesitating and shuddering is a safety issue since the car is not responding properly to the drivers actions.

Transmission broke way too early.

Approx 102k miles, issues started may 2026, torque converter shudder, most noticeable at below speeds 60 mph, no dtc's present, traceable shudder event with ids/fdrs reading, sometimes perceived/felt as an engine misfire may be due to an internal issue with the torque converter. July 22, 2026 changed and refilled automatic transmission fluid and did not seem to help much.

Transmission slipping and was looked over by a professional. There was debris found inside that continually causes damage. Has made vehicle randomly jolt and slow to come up to speed causing danger on the road. No warning lights came up.

Basically these cars are known to have major transmission problems that cause transmission failure, and my car is now experiencing the symptoms leading to that failure. I've seen a lot of people complaining about it, and though I guess it is my turn to get in on the complaints. Wasnt sure where else to do something like this.

After I shift out of park and start driving, my vehicle shudders and jerks. The shuddering and jerking are less noticeable the faster I go and almost goes away completely once I reach 60-70mph. It's almost like when the car has bad gas but after testing this theory that was found not to be the case after changing to premium gas. I took my car to lafayette Ford located in fayetteville, nc. They determined that the torque converter has a shudder and also the transmission has a harsh shift from 2-3. They said that manufacturer has a suggested fix for this concern that they recommend all of the dealerships to follow. Per Ford, TSB 25-2154 covers this and will need to be performed. Prior to me experiencing these issues, there were no warning lamps or messages but about 9 months earlier there was a popping noise when I turned the wheel while trying to leave a parking lot. Popping and loud clicking and banging. After diagnostic check, they replaced the axle assembly and front axle shaft. The car was never the same after that work was done.

The shifter won’t shift, and it places its self back in park on its own. My car shudders and bucks under speed of 30. No light were on until it happened and I had a certified mechanic look at it and confirm it had power train issues.

The car is shuderring in low speed, feel like kicks.

Our torque converter has gone out on our vehicle. It has been meticulously maintained with fluid changes and every service when needed at mileage intervals. It started showing symptoms at 63k miles which is unacceptable for a transmission to start dying already. Looking online lots of other drivers have the same issue but Ford refuses to acknowledge this transmission sucks and wants us to cover their incompetence. Would never buy another Ford again.

My 2019 Ford Edge has a powertrain malfunction and it states to seek the dealership immediately! the SUV is swaying badly and the auto start/stop components scares me whenever restarts and there is a burning smell- its nearly causing me to lose control once it restarts. . Please help im affraid to drive it. This is my only means of transportation and I am dissabled.

2019 Ford Edge shudders and fails to accelerate making it difficult and unsafe to merge with traffic, execute left turns, and drive safely. There are no warning lights. This appears to be a known problem with the torque converter but no recall has been issued.
