While driving under normal conditions at 30 mph the ball joint separated from the wheel causing the wheel to turn freely. The vehicle violently turned to the right until it stopped.
In making a right hand turn, the steering wheel became uncontrollable and impossible to straighten out causing the vehicle to continue in its turning radius and crash into a sign on the sidewalk. The vehicle was transported to a salvage yard. I am of the belief that the ball joint failed. We have always maintained the car at Ford authorized dealerships and even replaced the ball joints recently. This car has a propensity for failing ball joints. Ball joint I see previous complaints on this and I would like to have investigated again. It is the same issue noted in the previous complaint from 2009. Do I need to contact Ford? do they take care of this even though they did not do a recall? this happens when in motion there is front suspension collapse.

Driving on a 3 lane city road in the left most lane at 50 miles an hour when I heard a snap. Then immediately the steering pulled hard to the left. I fought it back to the right while braking. Eventually the car came to a stop. I got out of the car and saw that the front left tire was flipped 90 degrees to the left and what appeared to be the axel laying on the ground. After further investigation it was found that the ball joint had broken apart from the rest of the drive assembly and ripped out the axel. The vehicle is an all wheel drive and had 50,000 miles. Prior to this incident there was ongoing alignment issues that the dealer could not diagnose.

I was going approximately 15 mph while turning right when I heard a clunking noise and the right side of my car dipped more than it should. The right wheel (looking out from the vehicle) seemed to "give" when it turned. I took it into a body shop and they said that the ball joint was loose and needed replacement. At the time of the incident the mileage on my car was approximately 48k. I have only highway miles and do not do any off-roading. The clunking noise and "give"of the right ball joint continues to happen and a floating sensation is caused, which feels like the car will tip over when making right turns on the highway at more than 30 mph.
