2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/28/2021

Power steering malfunctioned. Wife had kids in the car and lost steering control. All power steering fluid loss out of banjo bolt that connects the power steering high pressure line to the steering gear. Ford has a TSB on these regarding this issue. Service bulletin asi-44308 steering NHTSA id number 10054565. I had to have a mechanic replace the whole rack and pinion due to the pitting the salt caused on the aluminum by corroding. This is Fords mistake. Thankfully no one was hurt. Secondly, I had to pay $945 for something that should have never happened. This is a huge safety concern and Ford knows about it!.

3 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 04/15/2020

The adaptive steering module integrated in the rack and pinion shorted and one can no longer use the adaptive steering feature. The NHTSA recalled the steering wheel with the electric adaptive steering motor, however NHTSA did not recall the rack and pinion with the defective adaptive electronics. I'm lucky my steering wheel failed straight and did not cause the steering wheel to be cocked. I would like to prevent car manufacturers from integrating electronics into non-serviceable components. The only way to resolve the adaptive steering failure is to replace the rack and pinion. Going forward all automotive manufactures should not be allowed to integrate non-serviceable electronics with mechanical parts. The vehicle was stationary and I tried to modify the settings for the adaptive steering in driver assist settings. The adaptive steering feature is no longer available since the electronics shorted. Why recall the steering wheel and not the electronics in the rack and pinion. It does not add up because it was an 50% repair. Why bother with the recall if you did not address the entire problem. The adaptive steering electrical components in the rack should be a removable module so you can repair the electronics without having the change the entire rack and pinion.

4 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2016 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 01/07/2020

Got codes for no steering assist fault and no advance trac, meaning no power steering and no awd. There are recalls for this but was told, my car didn't apply because not made at the plants they were made. Took my car to a Ford dealership, had them look at it, after disconnecting battery for 10 minutes, both came back, but said rack and pinion was bad? my car just past the 36,000 miles in garage miles were 38804. This car only drives on paved roads, not all new paved but good roads. 'how can this be part be bad with just 2000 miles over coverage? why is it bad at this mileage? not happy to have to pay $2600. 00 to replace at such low millage? something was bad with this part from the start!!! if I have to replace this part and not covered by Ford plus my cost to I paid to have them lok at it. I will never buy another Ford, built tough my ass!!! plants.

5 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 60 mph on normal road conditions, there was excessive vibration and unintended resistance when the steering wheel was turned. The driver had to exert greater force to turn the steering wheel. The failures occurred intermittently and without warning. The contact made several attempts to maneuver the steering wheel before it resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the power steering pump failed, which had already been replaced twice. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on seven separate occasions for identical failures. The rack and pinion was replaced twice, including all of the hydraulic lines and oil cooler components in the power steering system. The failures continued without any resolution. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 3,000 and current mileage was 13,200.
