Travelling on the expressway I received a warning on my dash that my steering had failed along with other warnings. I lost the power steering and it was very hard to maneuver. I took it to a dealer that said it was electrical (software) and they had to reset it. Why???? my concern is it could have caused an accident if my wife was driving because she would not of been able to steer it. Or if I was in the middle of a turn or lane change. This is very concerning as I'm worried about a re occurrence.

My vehicle previously had recall work, including power steering, but now I’m experiencing: * ‘steering assist required’ warning, and the electric power steering is intermittently failing * traction control and hill assist turned off * headlights (and other lights) staying on even when the car is off * the vehicle pulls sharply to the left when braking * despite multiple alignments and suspension/tie rod replacements, my new tires are wearing out rapidly.

While driving at slow and or highway speed limit, while turning to the rightor left, the steering wheel avts as if being hung up?catching onto something. It takes a little harder pull to release it out of the turn causing the vehicle at highway speeds to almost be uncontrollable. This in turn causes myself and others to be put in danger. While searching the internet for possible matches to my situation, I was able to find using ai that multiple other owners/drivers had similiar issues. The fix is either a sensor replacement, gear box replacement, software update or all three with costs ranging from 500-2500 in repairs. No warning lamps/messages/or other symptons have occcurred prior to the incidents. They began appearing a few days ago. It has not been inspected as of yet. I am making an appointment for next week and will further update.

Since the day I bought my 2013 Edge I have had nothing but problems ranging from backup camera always has a distorted image, appears upside down or it will just be blank. For the last year I have had my car looked at, changed everything that could possibly be changed to now my car can be going down the road running 55-60 mph and the car will just shut down and flash random warnings on the dash but the scariest & most unsafe part is how the steering wheel locks up or I lose power steering making it hard to move or coast off the road to safety. At this point I don't know what else to do. Questions below are asking for dates but unfortunately there are so many dates that my car does this as it happens almost daily so I will put date for the last day I drove it. Right now it has been sitting at a mechanic's place for the last 3. 5 weeks.

Within the last year I have replaced the right and left inner and outer tie rods, bought 4 new tires, maintained alignment and shortly after replaced the power steering hose and the driveshaft. Knowing I maintain my vehicle well, I drove myself and 4 friends 900 miles and the power steering fluid began leaking again. Mechanic tells me the rack and pinion needs replaced. I can hardly believe all this is wear and tear but it certainly caused a safety concern for me and my passengers. Now, another $2000.

My adaptive steering light came on and my steering wheel turned to the left like I am turning left. I am on social security and can not afford to pay 4000 dollars to have this fixed. Ford has a recall on 2017 Edges for this. All these steering wheels are made just alike. This VIN# should be included in the recall. I do not want to have an accident due to them not fixing this vehicle. Please help me with this. Thank you.
I turned my car on and a warning light of adaptive steering sensor came on. Then my steering wheel was not in the correct position while I was driving. I only have 80 thousand miles on this vehicle. I feel like this vehicle should have been included the recalls of the other 2017 Ford Edges. Adaptive steering issues. Please add my VIN # to the recall so I can fix this. I’m afraid to drive it now. Thank you for your time with this problem. I can’t afford to fix this. I was told it would cost close to 4000 dollars.
The power steering suddenly stopped working while I was driving. The steering became extremely stiff and difficult to control. At one point, the power assist abruptly returned, causing the steering wheel to jerk, and I nearly hit a pedestrian. It was a frightening and extremely dangerous situation. Brought the car to my mechanic multiple times, but the issue kept coming back. After 3 times, I brought the car to the Ford dealership/Ford mechanics and they confirmed the issue with the power steering was the fault of the rack and pinion. There was no indication of an issue prior to the power steering going out, however, as the steering goes out the power steering alert comes up on the cars dashboard, as wall as the loss of traction power.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the power steering failed to function as intended. In addition, several unknown messages were displayed on the instrument panel with several unknown warning lights being illuminated. With help from neighbors, the vehicle was taken to the residence. A dealer was not contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford recall: 19s26/NHTSA campaign number: 19v632000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but denied assistance in covering the cost of the repair. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
We had stopped to get a soda and when we came back out and started the vehicle the steering wheel turned 90 degrees so the straight position was now 12 and 6 vs 3 and 9, I tried to shut the vehicle off and restart it and no change in steering wheel position. There was also an adaptive steering error on the dash. Another issue with this was that you could no longer see the speedometer as the steering spoke was covering it, we drove to the closest Ford dealer from where we were and we were told they didn’t have time to look at it on that day. I confirmed with the cashier that they were sending us away with a vehicle with a steering issue and the cashier once again just said they could not look at it on that day which I was not asking them to do I just wanted to leave it and go off in a loaner that I was able to get under the extended warranty. We went to the second Ford dealer that was closer to our home and they took the vehicle in and 2 different service writers stated they had never seen anything like this before. They had the vehicle for a total of 3 weeks to diagnosis and replace the steering wheel and try to get the wheel back into alignment which took 2 trips. The second visit we met with the master tech at Ford country who went for a drive with us and could see that the Ford emblem in the center of the wheel was not straight and it took them 2 or 3 attempts to get it straight and the master tech with 35 years of experience stated they had only seen this 1 other time in all their years of working on vehicles. I just do not have confidence in the vehicle any longer and just keep thinking about what if this happened while we were driving and not just in a parking lot. I no longer feel safe in the vehicle.

Transmission has catastrophic failure and exploded while driving. Many components missing chunk of metal and or just completely mangled after explosion from under car when had to me turned 35°-50° to go straight. Went to google my issue and say the 2020, Ford Edge had 3 recalls for transmission issues but for certain ones and mine want listed but had done a good amount of damage.

No warning lights were illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a faulty torque converter. The torque converter was replaced; however, several days later while driving 50 mph, the contact lost control of the steering and heard an abnormal sound of wind inside the vehicle, and the steering wheel became loosened while accelerating. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to coast to a parking lot and parked the vehicle. The contact called her husband, who arrived on the scene to drive the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted, and a service manager inspected the vehicle at the residence. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be taken for further diagnostic tests. The contact was informed of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 102,252.
The adaptive steering fault light came on. My steering wheel is slightly turned to the right. I took it into the dealership for service and troubleshooting for this issue. As far as I can tell, there is not a recall for this issue, however I am reading about numerous incidents where this is happening in particular with the Ford Edge. The part is back ordered and the repair quote is $4,090, which is outrageous. In the interim, I was advised not to drive the vehicle because it could completely fail. I am completely disappointed in Ford. I bought my 2018 Ford Edge used and I love the car, but a $4k repair for a 6 year old car with about 55k miles is outrageous. Ford should issue a recall for this problem.
Putting the car in drive and would drive a few feet suddenly, all the panel lights ( check engine, abs, hazard control, electric parking brake,) literally every light on the panel would turn on and engine would stall causing the steering to become hard to control. This happened 3 times within a 2 week span then, I brought it into dealership and was told my coolant had leaked into my cylinders causing the engine to become ruined and that’s why I was having the problems with the engine and steering. My car has only 59000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that a warning light indicating that there was a steering failure had been illuminated on the instrument panel. When turning the steering wheel it failed to automatically re-center. The contact would have to use manual strength to re-center the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the who diagnosed that the steering module failed and the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the part being on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer had referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a safety complaint. The failure mileage was 100,200.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. The contact was informed that the power steering gear had failed, and the steering rack and pinion and several other unstated parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
While traveling on curvy roads, lane keep assist jerked steering wheel to the left into oncoming traffic. Incident occurred twice, and only when on a right hand curve. Lanes are clearly, and freshly, marked.

Forward collision warning stopped working which in turn caused the cruise control to not work. Then the pscm (power steering control module) just went out all at once. Was driving and it showed warning on the dash. I drove on and parked. When I went to start back, it started fine but couldn’t move steering wheel. I’m seeing this has been a problem with other owners and the same year model. Ford has done a recall on Edge for years around 2020 but not that particular year. Gonna cost $2772. 59 to fix at dealership. Always owned Ford but very disappointed how this happened with very little warning at all. If it had locked up while I was driving it would have been a major accident.
Last year, the 2. 0 ecoboost had a coolant intrusion. After 2 times Ford dealer talking with someone in company, the repacerd egr valve, egr cooler and finally had a long block motor installed. Then a little while later had to replace transmission, then the steering box. My extended warranty covered this but it ran out at the end of may. I think I should be compensated either by extended warranty or money. Any of those problems could have resulted in an accident. First took to lynn layton Ford in decatur, took back a couple of weeks and could not get to it, took to eddie pruitt Ford in hartselle, where they took care of the problems.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the "steering assist fault service required", message was displayed. The contact stated that due to the failure, excessive effort was needed to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where corrosion was found on the steering gear bolts. The contact was then informed by the mechanic of NHTSA campaign number: 15v250000 (steering). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 79,024.
And cause in your description. Am writing to formally report a recurring and dangerous issue with my 2015 Ford Edge, which is currently driven by my 16-year-old daughter. Despite reporting this problem multiple times, it remains unresolved and poses a serious safety risk. The backup camera activates while driving at high speeds, distracting the driver and creating a hazardous situation. The steering becomes unusually tight, making it difficult to maneuver the vehicle safely, especially during lane changes or emergency corrections. These issues are not only persistent but occur while the vehicle is in motion at highway speeds, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. I have video documentation of the backup camera activating while driving, which I am willing to provide upon request.
Power steering fluid leaking. Had hoses replaced, but problem still persist. No. 2 power brakes lost, pedal very hard. Very lucky ,not to hit car in front of me. Car is in shop, mechanic tells me it probablyneeds power booster replaced. No warning signs.
