2 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

I always maintained my "pre-owned" vehicle, purchased from dealership with 25,000 miles. Began to experience a plethora of problems after 2,000 miles. I've paid over $8,000 in repairs and only drove it 35,000 in 8 years time, but maintained it properly & regularly: I've had to change the brakes & pads, & battery twice, it's wheel rims constantly leak air in the winter causing flat tires, changed all 4 tires, and on August 2, 20017, while driving on the highway at 60 mph, my steering control suddenly locked up! there was no control over the vehicle's movements- no ability to make lane adjustments or turns! I and my entire family including grandchildren could have been killed!! luckily, the next off-ramp was a straight shot & I was able to exit the hwy safely and bring the vehicle to stop despite no steering control. I had my vehicle towed to a Ford dealership which incorrectly diagnosed the problem, & did not bother to inspect it for three days. It now needs a costly ($1500) rack and pinion to replace it's rusted out pressurized fuel line for power steering fluid. It remains unrepaired to date since there is also a takata airbag recall w/ possible fatal injury on this VIN. The repairs have been delayed because this vehicle is an unsafe danger to drive! the fuel line defect was undetectable even though I had regular maintenance care and checkups.

3 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2014 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to friendly Ford of las vegas (660 n. Decatur blvd, las vegas, nv 89107), but was not diagnosed. Previously, the vehicle experienced a power steering fluid leak and, when turning the steering wheel in either direction, a whining noise was present. The power steering pressure hose was replaced, but the whining noise continued. Also, while operating the vehicle, a fuel odor was present inside the cabin. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 23,333.

4 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

I recently had to replace power steering lines in my vehicle due to metal corrosion rusting through the lines and causing the fluid to leak out, this issue has repeatedly caused my car to go out of alignment and has ruined my tires. The power steering was not working properly to the point of being dangerous because of it. Because my car is only 7 years old I am wondering if this corrosion would be covered by some sort of warranty or if this is under recall? especially since my car is under recall for gas tank and air bag corrosion. I have reported this to Ford as well. The repair just of the power steering lines cost me $500. I still need to replace all four tires as well. This defect is dangerous. Metal parts should not be corroding on cars.

5 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

We have a 2012 Ford Edge purchased new. We've been having issues with power steering failure going on for about a month. The service center cannot make appropriate/reasonable repairs to our vehicle. It's been in their shop 3 times and still looses ps fluid rapidly. 1st time, they didn't have part. 2nd time, replaced high pressure line. 3rd time, replaced failed ps pump. Vehicle still continues to leak ps fluid. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, and we are afraid loosing control of the vehicle and/or being stranded on the road. We can't afford the time and cost to have it in the shop every other week. The vehicle will soon be out of factory warranty and are afraid of this ongoing problem. We are very unsatisfied with Ford's products and services. We don't know what to do at this point. Nobody seems to be able to help us.

6 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2010 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while approaching the parking lot at 40 mph there was noise that sounded throughout the vehicle. There was also a grinding noise when the vehicle made a turn as the steering wheel became difficult. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with a power steering fluid leak. There were no repairs completed on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 65,200.

7 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

In December of 2013 I noticed the steering on my Ford Edge was acting up and occasionally the power steering would go away for a short period time. This issue almost caused a couple accidents because the car would not react when turned. The dealership added more power steering fluid and the issue went away for a little while but would still sometimes show the same signs of being hard to steer. A few months later a different Ford dealer found a small power steering fluid leak and repaired a hose under warranty, but that did not completely solve the problem. Last time into the dealer for an oil change just past warranty, the same dealer found a technical service bulletin to replace the power steering pump, but now they want us to pay the full cost of the repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. We tried to talk to the dealership and Ford customer service but they would not cover the issue under warranty even though the issue was first brought up while the vehicle was still under warranty. I feel this is a major safety issue and should be subject to a recall not to mention the Ford should stand behind their product and fix an issue that was brought to their attention before the warranty was up.

8 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2013 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

Purchased 2013 Ford Edge with 27600 miles on it, when taken in for first oil change at 30600 miles I noted power steering fluid level 1/2 inch below minumum mark and marked reservoir tank at this low level to track it, with oil change my local service station filled it up to1/2 way between max and min line in August 2012. After driving vehicle another 5000 miles noted fluid level again at minimum line, set up appt at local Ford garage 2-3-14 and voiced my concern about a leak, and showed service manager level at min mark and explained I prior noted low level as indicated by previous line I marked to show how low fluid actually was and that I had it filled as mentioned above. On 2-3-14 appointment they checked vehicle for leak and said there was none. Took vehicle in to my local service garage (not my local Ford garage) on 2-12-14 with 35750 miles in it and they found leak of high pressure hose and possible leak of banjo fitting. Will take in to Ford garage again Saturday 2-15-14 as had already set up appointment last week because have heard high pitch squeal on occassion when turn steering wheel left or right and wanted power steering checked again, with bumper to bumper warranty about to expire in 250 miles, wonder if I'll get the run around again or if they will see the leak now and service this vehicle right.

9 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Ford Edge

Failure Date: 03/26/2012

Care started making a whirring noise that was intermittent, but not a normal noise. Took in for service, found a leak in power steering. Two months later (5/9/12) trying to back out of a parking space the power steering pump quit, couldn't turn the wheel and lots of steam/smoke came out from under the car. Replaced power steering pump under warranty (ext. Warranty was purchased at time of sale). November 12, 2014 took the car back in for whirring noise, mostly noticeable while turning left and only when it was cold outside. (temps below 45). Power steering pump was bad again. Replaced pump/belt for $853. 45. Drove to florida for thanksgiving no problems came home to cold weather and the whirring noise was back. This time it didn't stop for 20-30 minutes when car was sufficiently warm. Noise made while going forward/backwards/turning. Parked car for the weekend Friday night, Sunday night went to move it and steering didn't work. Checked fluid reservoir almost empty. Took back to dealership, had to wait 48 hrs for them to find the o-ring and hose was bad, another $500. O-ring and hose should have been replaced with power steering pump, but were not part of the package. How do I know that the new pump didn't suffer damage from being so low on fluid? there was 3000 miles driven between new pump and hose issue.
