I bought my 2008 Ford Escape XLT in 2007. In Aug. Of 08' I had to take it in to the dealer and they said it was my transmission. They found that the pump support was worn and worn through the seal rings. I was at 29,094 miles. Ford fixed it under warranty. It is now December of 10' and I am at 73,000 miles and having the exact same issues only this time I took it in and they will not cover the repair. The tech report I received states the exact same thing it did when I took it in 08'. . Read more...

After stopping or slowing down and when you push on the gas to drive or speed up the car would hesitate as if it were in neutral and then kick into gear and the car would jerk and the tires would skid. This happened for about 2 weeks and then my car stopped driving. It was out of warranty by 10,000 miles and the band broke inside the transmission so now it needs a transmission overhaul.

I have a Ford Escape 08, and about 6 months ago I noticed that it started leaking at the front of the vehicle, which at the beginning I thought it was the air conditioner. Recently my 2008 Ford Escape started hesitating when taking off. Almost caused an accident since I was pulling out into traffic. Today as I stopped at a stop light the transmission did not shift down, it lurched forward and died. It appears many 08 Escape owners are also having this problem. Why has this not been investigated. Someone may be killed if something is not done.

Have a 2008 Ford Escape, the transmission started acting up a couple of days ago. I would put my foot on the gas and the vehicle wouldn't move then it would jerk and move. It stalled twice on the road. This is a big issue since this can cause a huge car accident that could hurt people. Took to the dealership and was told it a transmission condenser, which cost to repair over 800. 00 plus this is not covered by the powertrain warranty. This is a issue that needs to be looked at since will cause mayor accident and effect people life.

16 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2009

I have a 2008 Ford Escape was sitting at a stop light and when I started to go forward it just rolled back and then lunged forward barley missing the car in front of me. I finally noticed a leak coming from the from end of the car took it to Ford and they said it was a common problem there are 100s of people with the same prob Ford refuses to fix the issue saying it wasn't covered after 36k there should be a recall Ford should own up to there poor workmanship too many people with same problem.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

For no apparent reason the transmission cooler on my 2008 Ford Escape started to leak. The leak go t worse and I took it to Ford who told me it would be about $950 to fix it. The car had 41,000 miles on it when the problem started. Ford will not fix this even though the drive train is still under warranty. Ford customer service told me that if it didn't break during the original warranty period it was my problem. I found out the leak was due to the fact that they riveted the air conditioning pipes to the return tube of the transmission cooler and the rivet fails on almost all the units causing the leak.

18 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2009

Car in reverse backing into my drive --I remove foot from gas pedal and car immediately rolls back down into street staying in reverse but going forward. When in drive entering driveway and I remove foot it again rolls back down into street being in drive but moving in reverse . I must use the brake at all times. It is not a steep drive at all. Ford says they can't duplicate it so it isn't true and refused to put it on a lift to check for defects. Another mechanic says it's dangerous and so did several friends who also experienced it. I am afraid it will roll into the street or fail to stay in drive when or if I try to travel over a hill or steep grade. It is automatic but seems to act like a stick shift.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2009

Condenser/transmission cooler leaking resulting in transmission damage and/or failure. 2008 Ford Escape. This is 3rd time leak/transmission problem has occurred with the first 2 happening under warranty. Ford motor company refusing to cover the cost of transmission repair d/t the "condenser" not being manufactured by Ford. Thankfully, no vehicles were behind me when I lost transmission first time while going up a steep hill.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2009

2008 Ford Escape hybrid, complete engine failure with less than 1/4 mile warning. Ford has technical service bulletins on this problem: # 7-25-9 (Dec. 24-07) and 08-3-3 (Feb. 18-08). Repair is a simple calibration. Since this is a serious, potentially deadly defect, why is this not a recall to notify consumers? Ford would not pay for the repair because my mileage was beyond warranty. It was not beyond warranty when the first TSB was issued. If this had been a recall and Ford had been required to notify me, I would have had it fixed then, before it nearly caused an accident. Thank you.

21 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2009

This is a follow up to earlier complaint #10256871 dealer was unable to do repairs to vehicle at earlier date because they could not find problem. Vehicle now quit moving in middle of traffic requiring it be towed. Dealer now replaced entire transmission due to complete internal failure which appeared to be caused by lack of lubrication to internal components. Dealer commented that it appears to be a cooler related design problem, which restricts fluid flow in cold climates.

22 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2009

The vehicle feels like it does not want to shift into gear when it is put into reverse. The whole vehicle is "chugs" or shakes when it is reversing at slow speeds. Has become worse with time. Vehicle purchased may 2008 and has 14,000km. Currently in the dealership and they are replacing the entire transmission.

23 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Vehicle would not go in reverse after driving about ten miles. Sub zero weather, vehicle was parked in heated garage. It worked ok out of garage, after driven for the ten miles reverse slipped badly. Powertrain light on dealer checked for codes and code read as unknown problem. Transmission now has delayed engagement into reverse. Dealer checked fluid and it is burnt, again no known codes yet light is still on. Vehicle is 4 cylinder with 4 wheel drive.

24 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2009

I have a 2008 Ford Escape that I have had transmission problems and when put into rev. It would slip and or chatter. When I brought it into the dealership they stated to me that they can not get it to do what it did for me. This happen for a few days. It started to do it when it gets cold outside and after driving it. I have 333000 miles on it and do a lot of out of town driving. I would like it fixed before it leaves me stranded out of town. The dealership has had it for a week now and still can not find a problem with it. It is hard to believe that there is no code set for this problem.

25 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2009

I purchased my 2008 Ford Escape in December, 2008 with 35k miles. I took the vehicle in for an oil change about a month after I purchased the vehicle, and was told that I had a leak in my transmission cooler. I took my vehicle into the dealership, and was told that this has been a very common problem with the 2008 Escape. My extended warranty covered the work that needed to be done, but it still is something that should be addressed if this is a common problem on a vehicle that is less than a year old.

26 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2008

Been noticing little red drips around the radiator filler tube side. Cleaned area and noticed fluid dripping from where the tubes enter the cooler. Noticed other complaints online about a similar problem. Bringing into the dealer.

27 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2008

Transmission cooler leak, causing it to jump when below 20 miles an hour. While in boston during rush hour, could have caused a major accident.

28 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

Transmission started to hard shift. Took to dealer, dealer determined there was a leak in the transmission cooler. Although this I have a lot of miles on my car, it's still only a 2008 model year. The leak is on the side of the cooler, not the front, from a rock or twig or front puncture - this is a terrible design. They put the transmission cooler, engine cooler, and the a/c condenser all in one unit, so if one goes bad, you have to replace the entire unit. Dealer gave me a cost of $983 to repair == $424 for the part, and the rest in labor because they have to examine the a/c unit the cost is significantly higher. I called Ford consumer hotline -- they refused to do anything. I did note today, that just recently someone else had the same issue that was reported to the NHTSA database. I am very frustrated with the lack of response from Ford motor company. The representative (supervisor), just raved about the jd power quality and how good their products were. I don't see how.

29 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2008

Transmission issues. Doesn't catch into reverse gear and cannot go in reverse. Shifts into what feels like second gear at highway speeds.
