Driving to work I noticed a clicking noise if I let go of steering wheel which lasted about a week then on my way to work again it wouldnt go over 40 mph and wont come out of gear. On the way home it wouldnt go over 30mph and still wont come out of gear.
Throttle/powertain has went out in car. I read about other complaints concerning the same thing. I was driving down the highway and my car would not change gear and the wrench light emblem came on. I was in traffic and the car was slowing down, I almost got into an accident on I-30 in arlington texas on 2/1/2018. There was a recall on this part but another year. This is highly unsafe and needs to be recalled. Thanks, for reading this complaint. Linda wafford-469-648-9106.
I purchased my 2008?Ford Escape last year 2015. I have replaced both cv axils on each side and I had my steering column replaced. I purchased the car with 95,000 miles on it at a great deal of $8,900. I then found out why it was so cheap from such a trusted dealership. The dealership was closing in the next 2 weeks. It closed shortly after my purchase and a new Ford dealership opened in its place. Through out the last few weeks my car has not been driving correctly, especially on the highway. I took a closer look and noticed that no matter my speed my car will not go above 3rd gear. My power tran light came on today. I have read on other sights that there were recalls on this issue. I do not think these issues were fixed while being recalled. The related I've done so far have not been cheap by any means. After a year (even less 2 of the above cases) I should not be having these issues. . Read more...
Escape would not shift gears when it hit 20 mph it stalls when going from a stop position. Rpms would jump up during this time until it finally does kick into gear. Took to mechanic and was told the 2nd and 4th bands on the transmission are faulty and need transmission rebuild. There is a TSB out for this problem but this is a safety issue and should be a recall. Mileage is at 101,000 miles. Having your car not accelerate from a stop position puts the driver and other drivers at risk.
Vehicle surged forward when I came to a stop vehicle would not go into gear until I was at 3500 -4000 rpm. I got on freeway &couldn't get to speed limit. The wrench light is illuminated & when I looked up description in manual it states it is the throttle control/powertrain. After doing some research they do have recalls for this but on the 2009-2012 models. It also specified that Ford as of Feb. 2014 had issued an extended warranty for throttle body assemblies for 2005 - 2012 for 10 years or 150,000 miles. I contacted Ford & then state there is no recall nor consumer satisfaction program 13n03 for my car. Yet, the have the same consumer satisfaction program for the 2011 milans. This I know cause my daughter has a 2011 milan & she received notice. I do not understand how Ford can not comply when this Escape clearly has the same problems as the recalled vehicles for 2009-2012. All I was told was to get it fixed & keep receipt and maybe some day could get reimbursed. This is really frustrating and on Ford's part totally unaware and unfair to their consumers!.
Vehicle will not shift gears until 3250-3750 rpm. Wrench warning light turns on.
I was accelerating up a hill, when I noticed that it did not have any power. The car would rev up but not change gears. When I got it to the dealer they said an intermediate band broke on the transmission. Apparently the Escape is known for transmission problems. The 2nd and 4th gears go out on them. Ford would not pay for any of the repair which was $1358. 41. This is the second Escape I had with transmission problems. Needless to say I will never buy a Ford SUV again.
After driving 10 miles with the vehicle functioning correctly and then coming to a complete stop at a red light, upon starting back up the automatic transmission would not switch gears until the engine got up to 5000rpm. When it did switch it seemed to change into 3rd gear instead of 2nd because I had almost no power and had to very slowly accelerate from there. Further, it remained in 3rd gear and would never switch to 4th. This created a very dangerous situation on an open highway at night where the cars behind me expected a continuous acceleration to 50mph. I came very close to being rear-ended. My mechanic has determined that 2nd gear and 4th gear are gone. This appears to be a very, very common problem amongst 2008 Ford Escapes and a $2500 repair. This is a manufacturer's defect should be the subject of a recall before this causes a serious accident or fatality.
