While driving home with family on sept 1st, 2013, our 2009 Ford Escape decelerated quite rapidly from 45-50 mph to 0 mph within 10 seconds and wrench warning light came on. We were able to safely pull over and turn off engine. We waited a minute and it started back up again (no wrench warning light was no longer on) and we were able to make it home. It appears to be a faulty throttle body.
Vehicle suddenly started decelerating at a rapid pace. I was driving 60 mph, and the gas pedal suddenly seemed to stop sending gas to the engine. I had to pull over and coast to a stop. This was not covered by my lifetime warranty and is going to cost me over $600 in towing, parts and labor.
I drive a 2009 Ford Escape automatic with a v6 engine. On Sunday, may 26, 2013 at approximately 1:00 am, I was driving at 70 mph on interstate 10 west. Suddenly, I heard a single click sound. The wrench was illuminated on my dash board and the accelerator pedal stopped working. No matter what I did, nothing happened. I was terrified that I would be rear ended by the cars behind me for slowing down suddenly, so I put on my hazard lights and moved to the interstate median. I turned my truck off for a few minutes and then restarted it. I was able to proceed home with no further issue. This whole incident came with absolutely no warning. If a light indicating that service was needed, I could have avoided this nightmare. I am now learning that there is a defect with this vehicle.
