1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2021

I started to hear a grinding and cracking and popping sound I checked the vehicle and the front left ball joint is bad there is an obvious crack in the joint that is easily visible when inspecting the area of the front left wheel and it’s components.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2021

December 2021, while driving, the steering wheels suddenly locked up on my car, and it was perfectly fine the previous day. The car couldn’t move, so, I kept trying and let the car warm up a bit while kept turning the key, so it started up and I drove off, but it kept losing power of steering whenever I stopped on a red light!. I also noticed that turning to the right or left was really hard because the wheel was very stiff and kept locking up. So, on my way back, the wheel could not move and I struggled I was able to move it and then it just kept stiffening up while I was driving which was scary, the car almost lost control and I almost hit other vehicles. It’s very unsafe, I called and asked Ford if they had a recall on it but they said no. I took it to a Ford in kirkland and they said they’d charge me $2,500 to reprogram the steering and fix the power of steering, and that I’ll pay less if they get used parts. This is not right, there’s no reason why any vehicle steering wheels should lock up and suddenly stiffen up by itself, on a well maintained vehicle which appears to be in perfect condition, while a driver is driving, and sharing the road with other drivers. This is very unsafe, its a safety issue that Ford needs to look into and fix, it’s the right thing to do. I strongly believe that this is a manufacturing issue and a vehicle programming issue, and as a driver and a customer, I do not need to be charged by Ford, for them to fix their error and manufacturing mistake that causes their steering to lock up causing my car’s steering wheel to suddenly stiffen up and lock up while I’m driving, and causing the vehicle not to move as freely as it should!. This issue puts my life and other drivers life’s at risk. After this power of steering issue, I do not feel totally comfortable or safe driving this car as it is right now, and would like to request that it be recalled and checked by the manufacturer, if it wasn’t already recalled. Thank you.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

Highway speeds. Wrench light comes on and vehicle loses all power/throttle response. Pull off road, put vehicle in park, restart and computer seems to reset. Had been 1-2 times per year over the last couple of years and struggled to diagnose problem. Happened 8 times in 150 mile trip today.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

When your driving ass "go power" is lost and a wrench light illuminates in the lower left corrner. It does not matter where im driving but it just decides to do it when it wants to. Has happened 3 times in the past month or so its happend when I was going 10mphs and 30 mphs and about 45mph. . . Super super scary luckly no one was behind me all times. . . Last time this happend was on 7/23/2019.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

On July 9, 2019 I was exiting the expressway and my vehicle began stalling at which time the odometer went down from 50 down to 0 immediately causing me to pull over to the side. Thank god I was already in the processing of exiting. No warning lights on the dashboard at all. I turned the car off, and then turned it back on. I took my car to firestone who was unable to perform a diagnostic at the time, and suggested that I bring it back. This is very dangerous and of great concern. This vehicle has only 42,460 miles or so on it, and I don't feel that I should be encountering this problem. I have had it since 2010 and at the time purchased at 18,000 miles or so. I drive my vehicle locally only. I have read that this a problem with Ford Escapes, and I believe that this issue should be listed as a recall. Please help!.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Auto credit never fixed the recalls.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

In may 2015,I purchased my 2009 Ford xscape four-cylinder hybrid from a Ford dealer. The car has been driven by an older woman and mostly kept in a garage so the mileage was low at about 45,000 miles. At approximately October 2018, at 70,000 miles I entered the freeway and when I accelerate the wrench light went on and I could not accelerate . This happened a few more times randomly under completely different circumstances but mostly when I needed extra power. I would pull over and turn off the ignition, turn it back on and the wrench light would be off. I took it to the dealer and they could not determine via computer what the issue was. Could not find a code for the problem. They could not replicate the problem. They said it might've been bad gasoline. Have not had the wrench light or limping home issue sincejuly 2019 with vehicle currently at 79,000 miles. Out of nowhere this month, I am now having the same issue with wrench light and limping home. Engine light is on now, with wrench light. If I pull over turn the car off and on the wrench light goes away. S. I had been able to drive back roads but entering the freeway, or needing to accelerate beyond 30 miles an hour causes the wrench light to go on, and limp mode which is vehicle is unable to accelerate no matter how far I press the gas. I have read many complaints about this same issue. And there was a recall in south carolina? and a class action lawsuit. Lots of complaints that the 2009 Ford Escape hybrid outside of that state was not included in the lawsuit.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2018

Happened three times in 20 minutes on 08/16/2018: vehicle was in motion each time, suddenly and without warning engine stopped, all warning lights lit up on dashboard and lost complete control of steering, speed control. Wheels locked up and almost caused multiple accidents. Had to pull over and turn on vehicle again.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2018

Engine turns off when driving. This happens at different speeds in varying conditions; ie. Driving slow, driving fast, on the highway on side streets.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

While driving on freeway at 70mph, wrench light and check engine light came on and car suddenly slowed to 40mph. This happened twice in a week. The trouble code shows p2112. Dealer says that my VIN is not covered by the consumer satisfaction program 13n03, but I have experienced the same problem. Dealer says etb must be replaced. I will have to pay for it.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2018

Takata recall, with driving my 2009 Ford Escape, I realized whenever I am proceeding to press on the gas at a stop sign or at a traffic light, the acceleration takes time to pick up speed, and when trying to pick up the minimum speed locally it feels like I have to press hard for the truck to accelerate more. And when I'm merging on the highway it is very scary because when pressing down on the gas it stalls, alot let alone when I have to press on the brakes, it takes long to pick up speed again. Also when driving up a steep hill, the truck appears that it can't accelerate fast enough, the acceleration is horrible, and I am starting to become very afraid driving my own very, not knowing wether something is going to happen to me, when driving.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

Vehicle would stall out, all power loss during driving. P2111 throttle issue. Happened 3 times. During acceleration/deceleration (especially on slopes) vehicle would just lose all power. Had to stop and shut off ignition before it would work again.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While the contact's spouse was driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized and the power steering failed. While making right or left turns, the steering failed without warning on several occasions. Also, when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle lunged forward without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The local Ford dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

Power steering goes out, at all speeds now (my esc light is on the dash and won't go off) hard to steer wheel when at a stop or to make a turn. Make it's hard to park a car.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2016

Intended to park car in front of garage. Vehicle suddenly sped up uncontrollably, driver applied bakes and turned sharply yet the vehicle hit the garage structure causing damage to the vehicle and the house.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2016

Ford esacape throttle body I own a 2009 Ford Escape and was issued a recall for throttle body. I took my car to dealership and they replaced under warranty. 10 months later my car has the same problem with throttle body. It slows down to a crawl at a moments notice. I am a cath lab tech for a local hospital and was called in the middle of the night. While driving to hospital my wrench and engine light went on suddenly and my car slowed down to a crawl. I kept my foot on gas because I have to get to hospital. I am on a heart team and it is critical. Thankfully it was midnight because there were no other cars on the road. But it could have happened during the day with my kids in the car. I felt confident that my car was repaired with recall but now 10 months later it happens again. Called dealership and Ford service and was told they will not warranty. I have gone over the mileage amount for them to warranty. But what they fail to acknowledge is the elephant in the room. Something is wrong with the throttle body component for Escape. There is no reason to justify why this would recur less than a year later. I just know I am not the only one. And feel as a company they should address this major safety concern.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Apple valley Ford has done their best to work with me. However, Fords's extended warranty on the throttle senser is extremely dangerous. It requires an extremely long wait for approved diagnostics, which is known to clear out of memory when the car is turned off. Usually ending in a no. I have been in near death situations because of it over ten times. Today alone, the wrench and fix engine soon lights were on. I pull out of my neighbor onto a highway to stall horizontal across both lanes!!!! and more life threatening events as I cancel today's events and drive directly to the dealership again! I plan to post all my life threatening events of today on facebook. Should I be killed because of this, my loved ones can sue Ford and they might then "comprehend" the severity of this issue and the fact they won't back it up! I have not had any problems with my Ford but this. Do to the extremely dangerous issue, it will be my last Ford. Time to go with a car company that cares about safety.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

My 2009 Ford Escape has difficulty getting enough momentum to accelerate on the highway, this is a daily struggle. Yesterday I was trying to pass an 18-wheeler as it was drifting into my lane; as I eagerly pressed on the gas my car jumped and continued to coast at the same speed. Earlier this month, I had to decelerate from 40 mph to a fairly abrupt stop and my car was unable to. I just had my brake pads replaced so I knew that wasn't the problem, my car jolted a total of 7 times before coming to a complete stop. I almost crashed into the car in front of me. Every time I drive my car it sounds like its going to fall apart, the rattling coming from the suspension is constant. I get my Ford Escape checked up every month, because of all the problems I have. This car is a hazard to my safety, and I do not feel comfortable driving in this rolling plastic death trap. It's infuriating that the government claims a defective electronic throttle body to be not harmful enough to have a recall. I could have died from in both instances which I specified in this complaint, something needs to be done about this.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2015

When starting from a stopped position the car will stall out when trying to press the gas to go. The code came up as p2112 when I have had it checked.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

Probleme come in the morning after a small run to corner store. 2 monts before fore update DE trottle software. For the recal.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle intermittently accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

Vehicle surged then stalled, with absolutely no response when pressing on the accelerator. The vehicle stuttered until we came to a complete stop and shut the vehicle off. Vehicle started and operated without incident until July 7, when it displayed the same issue (this time, the vehicle stalled on the highway while cruising at a constant speed, which presented a dangerous situation). When calling the local Ford dealership, they indicate that they would have to inspect the vehicle, but that they may not replace or repair anything. Very unsatisfactory response considering that there may have been an accident due to the faultiness of their vehicle.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

I was driving to work and going around a winding part of the road. I was coasting due to the multiple consecutive turns when my car shut off while going approximately 20 mph. Luckily traffic was light and I was able to shift into neutral and restart my car while coasting. Since this event it has happened approximately 30 times, always around low or idle speeds and more often after running longer. I purchased this car second hand in March of 2015. I have never had such a frustrating problem or unsafe feeling with or while driving a vehicle.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Driving to work which is about 2 miles from where I am located at. My car suddenly loses power, the radio is still working, a/c is still working as well as the engine but I was not getting no acceleration at all and to top it all off, my steering wheel locked on me and 3 lights on the dashboard illuminated: wrench light, oil and engine light. I got the engine light fixed the other week as well as an oil change several weeks back and the wrench was the first for me. I done some research and I see that I am not the only customer with a Ford Escape with this problem. I called different mechanics, some say its the alternator or it could be the throttle body, but either way I am screwed because Ford charges an arm and a leg to fix the problem, but does not refund you if the problem continues to persist. I called my local Ford dealership in ft. Myers, FL and they told me to make an appointment and pay a $100 for a diagnostic too see what the problem could be, my issue is that I am afraid that I can not even make it to the dealership and I end up in an accident or I pay a $100 for them too tell me that there is nothing wrong with my car(something Ford is known for). I hope something is getting done with this problem, if not Ford is going to lose its customers and if so I am going to switch over to Dodge.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Entering a parking space in a grocery store lot. When I applied the brakes it seemed I got a simutaneus engine acceleration and the car surged forward hitting the facing car.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

Slowing to stop at stop light in line of traffic on 10/6/2014, light turned green, traffic moving, attempted to accelerate, found car unable to do so, looked at dash, some lights were on (remember battery light, check engine light and possible oil light), but as I was in traffic, I was in a bit of a panic, I put car in park and turned key. Car started up and was able to run normally. On 10/10/14 in traffic driving at 25 miles an hour slowing to adjust to traffic, as accelerator is pressed to maintain this speed and keep up with traffic, car does not accelerate as gas is pressed, look down at dash, lights are on, remember battery light, check engine light, another one, possible oil, I was able to steer car off road into parking lot. Stopped car, put in park restarted and again was able to run normally. **this same thing happened about a year ago, was slowly driving into the driveway at work, and the car just wouldn't go. . . . I stopped, put it in park and restarted it, and have not had this problem again until now. At that time, I had the battery checked and battery was fine. As I do not have the date or mileage I can not report it in boxes above but feel it is noteworthy.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Vehicle has had issues with the dashboard gauges locking up while driving, took to Ford dealership and they could not identify cause of issue. If I hit the dash it gauges would start to work again. When gauges were not working, a/c would stop working as well. Most concerning is the last two days my car has stopped accelerating while driving it, I can put the gas all the way to the floor and it still won't accelerate. During that time a/c stops blowing cool air and if I apply my brakes the entire car will start to shake as if it is going to die. I turn off the car and restart it and it runs fine, however it does take a sec longer to turn over when I start it at that point. I am taking it to have it looked at today. I have had multiple repairs to this vehicle pertaining to the sensors.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. The failure occurred when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the throttle body was replaced as part of a manufacturer customer satisfaction program. Approximately two years later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 150,000.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

My vehicle lost all acceleration while driving at 40mph, the wrench light came on. Pulled over and powered off vehicle and powered it back on (had slight trouble turning over) continued on my way, the vehicle ended up loosing acceleration three times while driving home, was on the busy highway doing 55mpg at one point when all acceleration was lost again. When I explained the problem to Ford they didn't know what was the problem, they ended up replacing the throttle body, but why wasn't this a mandatory recall when accidents could have occurred from loss of acceleration.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2014

Accelerating from a traffic stop. Taking a right turn, car rumbled and could not accelerate. Car went from 5mph and drop down to 3mph, the wrench light went on. Stopped at side of road and engine still running. Drove a little more and engine still rumbling and would not accelerate.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2013

As I tried to accelerate the vehicle went into a limp mode. I had no response from the accelerator pedal. The vehicle would move forward at a idle speed. Yellow wrench light came on. After engine was turned off and restarted vehicle ran as normal for a few days and it happened again.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

I was driving on a 4 line highway in the passing lane. My car lost power and the gas pedal would not work. I had to pull into the turning lane because a car behind me almost rearended me. Had to have car towed. This is the second time this has happened in a year. Last time the garage had my car for 5 days and could not find anything. My car was towed to a local Ford dealership. I had to get a loaner car for the second time in two years. Thank god that I was not in a wreck and could get pulled over onto the brim of a 4 lane dangerous highway. After looking o line last eve and today I found that other people have had the same problem some not as lucky as iam. The garage told me today that it is the electronic throttle body and will cost me 300$ or more. I am hoping that something can be down to prevent other serious accidents or even deaths due to this malfunction.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

I own a 2009 Ford Escape. While traveling at various speeds, the vehicle loses power and the wrench light comes on. Accelerator pedal pushed, but no response. Shut down vehicle and restarted car driven without incident, until it happened again 2 days later.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

My car lost acceleration in an intersection going about 15 mph. The engine was running slow and rough. The throttle had no effect on engine speed. After about 10 minutes of rough idling, the vehicle was turned off and I was then able to immediately restart the engine and it was able to drive home. This appears to be a known fault with the Ford Escape and could result in accidents. My understanding is that this is a known design problem with the throttle control system on the Escape.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

I was stopped waiting at a red light at the top of a very steep hill. The light changed to green and I let my foot off the brake and went to push the gas and my Ford Escape lost all power and stalled. The battery light and oil light came on as it stalled and I started rolling backwards down the steep hill. I had no ability to steer the car and I also didn't have any brakes, I tried to slam the brakes as we were accelerating more quickly downhill but I had no control. In a matter of seconds my SUV veered off the road and hit a brake wall and at that impact my entire vehicle flies over onto the drivers side and stopped. The side airbags deployed and I was unable to open any doors. A passing car stopped and helped my son and I out of the back hatch.
