P2111 error throttle actuater stuck open.
The throttle body became stuck during travel on a busy highway. My car lost all power to accelerate until car could be stopped and the ignition killed.
Driving and vehicle kept acting like it was stalling while trying to drive. Knew that the gas was not low, so wasn't sure what the issue was. Made it to destination and called mechanic. Brought it in to the shop, still with intermittent stalling while driving. Ran a test and said that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open - this has seemed to be a problem with Ford Escape vehicles. Got it fixed with no incidents, but could have been worse.
While driving the wrench light and check engine light came on and the vehicle went into limp home mode and would not go faster than a couple of miles an hour. The engine was surging during this time. I could turn the vehicle off and restart it but it would immediately do the same thing again. The codes that were read from the vehicle were p2111 and p2112 and said the throttle stuck open and throttle stuck closed.
Car stalled while moving 3 times. Once while in motion, the other 2 right after stops. Would hit the gas & the car wouldn't move. I would turn off the car & restart it & it would run ok, then do it again. Took it to autozone to have them tell me what codes came up & they said it was the p2111 stating the throttle actuator stuck on open. I have a 2 year old daughter & can't have take this kind of risk with her. Its happened again over the last week several times.
P2111 error per computer - throttle actuator stuck open. Vehicle will not accelerate and engine shakes violently, feels like it wants to stall, but does not. Needs to be shut off and restarted to accelerate again. Problem has now happened 6 times in the last 2 days.
At or about 2:30pm on Sunday, June 9, 2013, the identified vehicle was being operated on a limited-access state highway at or around the posted speed limit of 70 mph. The vehicle took an exit ramp onto the frontage road and decelerated to posted speed limit of 50 mph. Without warning or any prior indication, the vehicle entered the Ford-defined "limp home mode," which included a loss of engine power (governed to approximated 900 rpm in second gear), and the vehicle experienced rapid deceleration to approximately 10 mph on the high-speed three-lane roadway with medium to medium-heavy traffic. Upon pulling the vehicle to safety in a parking lot, the vehicle experienced rough idling and the dashboard illuminated a "throttle control/power train fault" warning light. Upon cycling the engine off and on, engine ignition took longer than typical to start by several seconds, but appeared to otherwise function properly. Upon re-entering the roadway, an experience similar to that described above occurred after shifting to third gear. After-market diagnostic computer indicates the vehicle has a p2112, "throttle actuator control stuck closed," code. Engine was cycled and entry to roadway was attempted again; similar episode occurred when shifting to third gear. Vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership for service, which is pending at the time of this report.
Lost power while driving, applied pressure to the accelerator and nothing. After a year of intermittent problems with this I took it into Ford dealership and they diagnosed a faulty throttle body. . . . Trouble code p 2111 . Diagnostic trouble codes (dtc) p2111, throttle body stuck open. Its cost me us$275. I think Ford must be asume the cost because is car failure from fabric. Let me know about the recall for the NHTSA action number : dp12006.
Entering interstate, car would not accelerate above 40 mph. Code reader says throttle control stuck open?.
My 2009 Ford Escape stalled (engine running but no forward motion and no response to accelerator) while driving. This happened while attempting to enter heavy traffic. I was almost rear-ended by oncoming vehicles. The problem was diagnosed as a problem with the throttle body by dealer. I had to pay to have the throttle body replaced. This is known defect, very similar to NHTSA action # dp12006: ". . . Vehicles that were diagnosed as failed throttle bodies with diagnostic trouble codes p2111, throttle body stuck open, and p2222, throttle body stuck closed. The petitioner indicates that the owners of both vehicles reported experiencing repeated incidents of stalling. . . " Ford has "released a number of technical service bulletins that cover a wide range of vehicles and throttle body issues related to hesitation and stalling, including 08-18-2 and 09-23-5. " this is a serious safety issue. I contacted Ford (both corporate and the dealership) and they have indicated that they will not take action to address this issue until a recall is initiated by the NHTSA.
Petition for defect investigation into my 2005-2012 Ford Escape vehicles for throttle body failures resulting in a stall while driving event or engine surge event on of the complainants complained of a stuck accelerator pedal. The failure was diagnosed as a failed throttle body with engine codes p2111; throttle body stuck open and p2222; throttle body stuck closed. There was no evidence of any mechanical interference on throttle blade or any carbon build-up.
While driving at a constant speed the throttle control actuator inside the throttle body can become stuck and cause the driver to loose all throttle and speed control. Problem will present itself as a transmission issue as shifting through all the gears will not clear the problem, until engine is powered down and restarted. This is a clear and evident problem that appears at or around 75,000 miles. Ford refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem with the factory model throttle body installed in most Escape model vehicles. Regular engine diagnostics do not display an error code unless the diagnostic computer is connected to the car at the time of incident and warning light is on.
While traveling at 70mph, vehicle suddenly stalled while driving in the center lane of a highway in heavy traffic. No warning signs were displayed. After pulling to the shoulder, vehicle was able to be restarted and seemed to be fine. Service technician found a failure code for 'throttle stuck closed' with 'freeze data' showing it happened at 71mph. He inspected the throttle and found no problems. As a precaution, he cleaned the throttle blade with a cleaning wipe. A week later, the vehicle stalled again as I was pulling into traffic. In order to keep the vehicle running, I then needed to keep my foot on both the gas and brake while at stops. Return to my technician and he diagnosed the problem as a defective throttle body. He said that the computer data showed the throttle open only 52% when the throttle was wide open. Vehicle has not yet been repaired.
While driving on the highway the vehicle lost power and the wrench light came on. It wouldn't accelerate I was able to coast to the shoulder unharmed, but it was a morning commute and the highway was very busy I could have easily been hit. I turned the car off and it did start up again. This happened 2 more times in the same morning. I called the Ford service department and immediately brought my car in per their instruction. After holding my car for 2 days and charging me $130 for service they told me there was nothing they could do because the wrench light doesn't hold codes. They knew when I dropped it off the only light that came on was no longer on when I brought the car in and they didn't warn me in advance that they weren't going be able to do anything without it happening while they had it. My vehicle at this time was under maintenance and power train warranty. So I took it home and this happened about 20 more times both on the highway and driving through town over about a 7 month period. This happened again 2 days ago 4 times on my way home from work on a very narrow road so it was very dangerous. This time the check engine light stayed on and I made another appointment with Ford. I was told it had the codes for (throttle body stuck open/closed) they were able to replace the throttle body which I hope will fix this extremely dangerous problem. My car is still under powertrain warranty, but I was told that this part is not covered. So I paid full price for the part because my safety is more important, but this should really be recall. There were numerous times I could have been in a very serious accident.
