While driving into work with my cruise control set at 60mph, my vehicle suddenly sputtered and the cruise control disengaged and there seemed to be a loss of power. I remember this description from the throttle bottle notification I received from Ford a few months back. I had taken my Escape into the dealership on 9/11/14 to have this taken care off and now 2 weeks later my vehicle now has the throttle control/powertrain warning light on and is showing all signs of the notification from Ford. I know this issue has already been addressed, but now I am questioning as to whether or not Ford is actually fixing the problem.
Driving on highway using cruise control setting at 65 mph, when all of sudden vehicle began to slow down and stall on me. I had to pull over on the side of the road because the vehicle was shaking and I could not give it power to stay with traffic speed. I got to the side put the vehicle in park and it still was shaken so I turned it off. I then waited a minute or so and started the vehicle back up even though it was hesitating to start. Once back on I drove with my hazard on at a speed of 50 mph.
I was driving down highway in evening heavy traffic with cruise control set at 60mph, when all acceleration cut off. Cars behind me had to hit their brakes just not to crash into me. This was extremely dangerous situation. I hit the gas peddle, both the engine did not accelerate and I had to pull over to the right and put my 2010 Ford Escape into park, at which point the engine was shaking violently and the wrench light was on. Shut off engine, waited 1-2 mins and restarted engine. Chuckled at the beginning, but then ran normally, pulled onto highway again and drove home. I was to anxious to try the cruise control again. Drove home and researched the problem on line. Found thousands of ppl describing on different web sites the exact same story.
I was driving on the highway with my cruise control on when the cruise control shut off and a wrench light came on. The car stopped excelling and I had to cruise from the fast lane over 2 lanes to the side of the road. Once to the side I turned my car off waited a minute and then turned it back on. It turned on fine and ran fine from then on. I of course called Ford immediately but it was after hours and I left a message. After about an hour of driving it began to shake my foot when I pushed on the accelerator. Prior to this I did feel some slipping or surges every so often when I was accelerating as if it was having trouble shifting. When I brought it to Ford it was decided that my throttle body needed to be replaced. This was done fast and was covered under my extended warranty it was to be fixed for just my deductible of $100. All fine and dandy until I read the reviews that this has been going on for a while and multiple people have been affected.
As I was driving down the interstate with the cruise control set at 70mph, the vehicle turned the cruise control off and decelerated almost immediately to 60mph which caused an uncomfortable thrashing forward of myself and my 2 children. We had our seat belts on, so we were not injured. The vehicle continued to lose power, so I pulled off the highway and placed the vehicle in park and turned off the engine. I noticed a little wrench had appeared in the left corner of my dash display. I looked up this symbol in my owners manual. I then decided to go ahead and try to continue driving as I was a good 75+ miles from home and I was in a very remote area. When I started the engine, I noticed the service engine light came on and did not go back out. I proceeded down the interstate approximately 2 miles before the vehicle did the same thing. This time I attempted to accelerate and with the gas pedal to the floor, had no success. The car just continued to lose speed, so again , I pulled off the highway and this time I let the vehicle proceed as far as it could without applying the brake. As the car was nearly stopped, it started to shake as if it were about to shut off. I turned off the engine and again, restarted after a short break and was able to make it the rest of the way home.
With cruise control engaged at 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly disengaged cruise control and went to an extremely rough idle with the vehicle shaking like a leaf in the wind. Had to exit highway through traffic as the throttle would not respond in any position. It was early morning with light traffic thankfully. This could have been different if the problem had occurred later in the day during heavy traffic.
I was driving on I-64 westbound in the far left hov lane in newport news, virginia around 4:30 p. M. On August 2 during rush hour when my 2010 Ford Escape, which was on cruise control set at 60 mph, suddenly stopped accelerating. I pressed the pedal and it continued to decelerate and started to shake. I put on my emergency flashers. My husband and I almost got hit numerous times by cars traveling at speeds of up to 65 miles per hour, as I was forced to cross four lanes of speeding traffic to reach the right shoulder. I feared that had my car stopped before reaching the shoulder, another car would have easily slammed into the rear of my vehicle, causing major bodily harm or death. After numerous near-collisions, I made it safely to the right shoulder. At that point, my heart was racing and my hands were trembling. My husband and I could have been killed!!! my car is now sitting at the Ford dealership with no estimated time of repair. I depend upon my automobile for transportation to and from work, as well as other places. Please help me.
Driving with cruise control set at 60mph, cruise disengaged, stepped on gas no throttle response pulled over and shut vehicle down restarted and proceeded home. Next day went to my Escape started vehicle and service engine light came on and remained on throughout the day. Called my Ford dealer to set up appointment to bring in the car for inspection. Was given a appointment in 3 days time (July 18,2013 @11:30am) was told by service advisor that it would be okay and safe to keep driving the car. Following day went to a meeting with my car, service engine light did not come on. While driving home the vehicle lost power and once again no throttle. Dealer service called and reported that the throttle assembly required replacement, asked if this was a known problem with the Escape and was told that there have been issues with the throttle assembly but no recall to date was told to keep the paid bill once the work was completed in case of a recall and reimbursement.
I was traveling on a four lane highway in southern illinois with my cruise control on when my Escape accelerated suddenly then just as suddenly lost all acceleration. I coasted to the side of the road with my flashers on. I shut the vehicle off due to it surging. Left it off called my dealer and while on hold just tried to see if it would restart. It then restarted fine and I proceeded to my destination. Returned to my town of residence and took vehicle to dealership they kept it the rest of the day and reported " no codes, no ssms, no TSB, rant etb test passed no problems found at this time. The next day I was in town going up a hill when my Escape suddenly accelerated up hill and again suddenly lost all acceleration. I this time coasted into parking lot. Again vehicle was surging. I placed vehicle in park with parking break on due to the power of the surges. Called dealership explained issues and made them listen to vehile while in park. This time someone figured issues as throttle body sticking. They replaced throttle body that day and I have not had trouble since. I am only finding out about these issues after searching web for similiar issues and found this site and others listing same issues. This could be a very dangerous situation, I have a reported issue to Ford and have a customer complaint number but I am awaiting a representive to return my call at this time.

On 30 December 2012 at approximately 5 pm I was driving my 2010 Ford Escape XLT on us 61 in port gibson, ms. I was traveling at approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged when the vehicle began to slow down unexpectedly. I glanced down to observe the gauges and discovered the cruise control had ceased functioning and the trouble light (shaped like a wrench) had illuminated. I pressed the accelerator pedal and the engine failed to respond. I pulled to the shoulder and shut down the engine. After checking under the hood for any loss of fluid or obvious mechanical failure I could detect nothing indicating a major mechanical failure. I restarted the engine and observed the gauges noting the trouble light was no longer present. Thinking the problem may have been a temporary issue, I again proceeded to travel upon the highway for approximately 100 yards and again the same trouble light illuminated and I lost the ability to accelerate after reaching around 45 mph. I again pulled over, shut off the engine, and restarted. I managed to turn around and go home, but not before I had the same failure occur approximately 4 more times at 65 mph. I contacted Ford roadside assistance and the vehicle is being towed to a dealership in vicksburg, ms, 35 miles away. This is the first time the vehicle has exhibited any defects since I purchased it in June, 2012 with approximately 33,000 miles on it. I feel this vehicle is not safe to be operated upon the roads and could endanger my family's safety as well as other motorists.
My wife was driving to work down a country road at about 55 mph with the cruise control on. All of the sudden she felt the car jerk and a wrench indicator light came on. The car immediately started to decelerate. She would push on the gas pedal and nothing would happen. Luckily there was no traffic around and she was able to coast into a driveway. The vehicle was basically about to stall out so she turned it off. After 30 seconds she started it back up and it started fine. To be safe we had it towed to the dealership it was purchased from. The dealership said no error message was in the computer system. After consulting with Ford the dealership told us that they were pretty sure it was the throttle body that needs replaced. We have not had the throttle body replaced do to the fact that the no error message was in the car computer and there seems to be no guarantee that $500 fix will take care of the issue. Upon more research I have done it seems like this issue is a very wide spread issue and happening all over the country. I am just glad that this did not happen to my wife while she was on a busy highway during the morning rush hour, which she does take sometimes to work but this morning choice to go the back way.
I was driving from mississippi to kansas. Had the vehicle set on cruise control and it just quit. Startingslowing down and I could not accelerate using the gas pedal. I had to pull over and shut off the vehicle for a few minutes. It clicked several times before finally turning over. It never did it again until recently and now it does it repeatedly with no indicator(s). There is no way a vehicle that is only three years old shoild gave a majir functioning paft malfunction like that. And definitely not for the price we pay for a vehicle. Its going to cause an accident (if it hasnt already) suddenly losing power like that in a high traffic area and at any speed is dangerous.
