1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, and then stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times and she was able to avoid having an accident. The contact stated that the power steering also became inoperable, and the steering column seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that an unknown customer satisfaction program had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 141,246.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2020

While driving around 70 mph on the freeway my 2010 Ford Escape started to hesitate with the engine running rough, and left me without the ability to accelerate. . . I was a sitting duck, luckily I was able to make it over to the shoulder without hurting myself or hurting anyone else. After researching this problem I realize that Ford had recalled a certain number of 2010 Ford Escapes as well as 2010 Ford fusion for the throttlebody to be replaced. They also back in January 2014 sent out a letter to Ford owners stating that it is possible your Escape's throttle body could go out; and explained exactly what that would feel like and what they could expect if it was to go out. Why we recall some and not recall all; why wait till there is a problem until they can fix the problem. They knew this was a problem and they did nothing about it this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

While driving, the steering will shut off suddenly after a small "click" sound and the power steering is suddenly gone. The battery symbol will light up randomly. All of the electric components will fail when the steering does, including the entire dash, heat/ac, radio, heated seats. It has happened when the vehicle is in motion on city streets multiple times. Sometimes the car works perfectly, other times the power steering refuses to reengage for a while. It has happened while driving forward and reversing. It doesn't seem to matter what speed I'm going, if it decided to shut off it's just gone.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power, jerked, and the wrench icon illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

While driving at posted speeds on a state highway the vehicle lost acceleration power and the gas pedal went limp. After putting the vehicle in park the engine ran rough in idle. The wrench icon also comes on. When using an obd2 reader a code of p2112 was given. When the car is turned off and back on it seems to temporarily correct. This has happened 4 times in a span of 2 weeks. It happens while turning and driving straight. I believe this has to do with a faulty throttle body.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

When the vehicle comes to a stop whether it be a stop sign or red light, the rpm's over rev higher at the time of leaving from a stop when gas is given to vehicle. After the vehicle gets back up to speed the rpm's drop back to a normal range.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

Driving under normal conditions, approx. 45 mph, 2 lane road entering village, car suddenly lost power and entered limp home mode. Wrench light illuminated on the dash. Made it home, but had to pull over to the side of the road several times to regain marginal power to be able to go up hills. Diagnostic testing at the garage revealed electronic throttle body failure, necessitating a replacement.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2017

While at highway speeds, car rmps become erratic and no response from gas peddle. Car goes idle and then stalls. Vehicle must be restarted. Yellow 'wrench' light comes on however once the car is restarted, it is no longer illuminated. No codes available from computer scan.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

No response from accelerator pedal. Turn off car after several minutes then restarted ok.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2017

Had to have throttle body replace for second time first time in December 1 2015 same issue accured January 13 2017 first time paid nothing but that was after me having to inform them of the 13n03 customers satisfaction from Ford. This time had to pay 100 dollars as they call it deductible this car is a 2010 has less than 60,000 mile on its third throttle body . Well my complaint is if its the same issue twice why am I having to pay for it at all . Both times this happend was light city traffic and both times when my wife was on the way to pick up our children from school and while traveling under 40 mph I want my family safe god forbid it happen on freeway far from home please please resolve both issues thank you.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body was contaminated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

Gas pedal becomes unresponsive without warning. Brakes work but shake car when I try and slow down. Car seems ok after turning engine off and back on. I bought this 2010 Escape pre-owned in 2013 and this happened the day we got it. Dealership replaced the electronic throttle body and it has been fine until about a week ago when same issue has happened twice in a week. Dealership is replacing the electronic throttle body once again for free. It concerns me that this is having to be replaced a second time. If a manufacturer is aware of a known safety issue like this and they replace the part, I'm expecting whatever was inherently wrong with the part causing it to fail to be fixed. Now I'm wondering how long until it has to be replaced again or if it will go out during high traffic on the highway putting my wife in harms way without any way to control the speed of the vehicle.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2016

*p2111 throttle actuator control system-stuck open* the first time it happened I was pulling on to the highway from a side road when I went to accelerate my car started to shake and jerk then lost power. I was able to limp it to a side street where I turned it off and then tried turning it back on again, my car wouldn't turn over at first and took three times before it finally cam back on with no problems at all and I took it back home where it stayed till a friend could come look at it. Nothing was found at first. The second time this happened I was driving down the road and I started to lose power I was able to pull into o'reily's where they hooked it up to the computer and came up with the code listed above.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

On 8/24/2016 my Ford Escape lost power, accelerator not working, while driving 65 mph on freeway. The wrench light came on. After turning off and on engine, it worked fine. It happened twice within 10 minutes. Ford dealer fixed it by replacing electronic throttle body for on 8/30/2016. On 10/10/2016 it happened twice again and Ford dealer did nothing because they couldn't find anything wrong on it. Now it is ok, not sure if it will happen later.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 30 mph, the service vehicle soon warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred on ten separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into limp home mode. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it diagnosed that the vehicle needed a software update. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact manually replaced the throttle body. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The VIN was not provided.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power on several occasions. The contact also stated that the brake pedal stalled and the vehicle accelerated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 64,000.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

All of a sudden the engine starts to rev up when I am waiting at a traffic light or driving. It scares me that I push on the brake more as I am waiting for traffic light to change or when I am driving I take my foot off the gas pedal because am afraid of going faster.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2016

Turned right onto freeway onramp with slight incline, after driving a couple of miles. Made it about 20 feet when the accelerator pedal stopped working. Unable to coast out of lane of traffic due to incline and was almost hit by multiple vehicles during rush hour. Two red warning lights on dash (I think engine oil and battery). Nothing stopped besides the gas pedal (radio, a/c were still running). Put vehicle in park and turned off. Was able to immediately restart and accelerator pedal worked again. Vehicle had new throttle body related to csp 13n03 at 41,000 miles. Current mileage 90,000.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2016

For about a month, when I would first begin to leave my residence, the Ford Escape would surge forward maybe 5 to 10 feet while already in motion on the street. Then the Escape stalled completely when I slowed down to make a turn. . . Thank god I did not turn in front of some on-coming vehicles. The Escape has also felt like it wanted to stall several other times while driving around town before it finally did just before that turn I already mentioned. Ford has not offered to buy this vehicle back (outside of a trade-in for a new purchase) but I sure wish to god they would. I had the vehicle looked at by Ford & they had to replace the throttle body for the third/3rd time! it is under a 150,000 mile recall for this very problem. Our vehicle has just over 70,000 miles & we have had to have the throttle body replaced 3 times! we bought the Escape brand new. . . Nearly $40,000 with all the bells & whistles. . . I think we average about 8,000 miles before each major problem. . . Insane. . . . Disgusting.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

The vehilcle went into a mode where it was able to keep throttling and was about to stall. It would throttle up and down on its own while moving. Powering off the vehicle corrected the issue for the time being.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2015

While driving my wife's 2010 Ford Escape in on i40 in heavy traffic the vehicle lost acceleration and the "wrench" check engine light illuminated. Everything else with the vehicle seemed to be functioning ok however I could not accelerate or maintain the speed at which I had been traveling. This was during rush hour traffic on 10/29/15 with my wife and a coworker in the vehicle. I shut the vehicle off and restarted it however the problem persisted the vehicle would not move forward, until 20 or so minutes later. I drove the rest of the way home and had the engine error codes read code p2112 throttle body actuator systems closed shut error appeared. This happened without warning on a major highway in heavy traffic my wife coworker and self could have been killed.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

My car sometimes suddenly just losing power. I could get killed on the freeway. From researching a bit I see it has something to do with the throttle body control. This has happened two time in the last two weeks. Once as we get getting ready to get on the freeway and the second time as we were crossing a busy intersection, luckily we were able to get across the road without getting hit. I am afraid I have bought an unsafe car.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

On August 31, 2015 I was leaving an airport and accelerating to merge onto a highway. I believe I was close to 60mph when I felt something in my car change. All of the electronics were still working, so I knew it was not an issue with my battery. The wrench light appeared and I realized I was no longer able to accelerate. I immediately got over to the right lane and by this time my speed had dropped to 40mph. I was able to safely pull over and put my car into park. The rpms spiked and I turned my car off. After waiting a minute or so I was able to restart my car with no problem. I got back onto the highway and took my exit. Maybe 5-7 miles from the location of the first incident, I was driving approximately 40mph down a 2-lane street when the same thing happened. This time both the wrench light and the engine light were on. Once again I pulled over, put my car into park, the rpm's spiked higher this time. I shut my car off. I was again able to restart my car right away with no problem. In the 9 days since this happened I haven't experienced this problem again. I am extremely nervous my engine will shut off on a highway again, in a location where I will not be able to pull over safely. When I called Ford they said my warranty covers the throttle body, so they have scheduled the throttle body repair for September 11, 2015. This is a very common problem, and I think Ford needs to address this for the safety of all drivers.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

The problem demonstrated as I left the shopping center and made the first turn onto the street. The engine was very rough and not consistent, the speed varied from 20 - 40 miles per hr without any pressure to the accelerator. As I came to a red traffic light I had almost no brake pressure and prepared to turn into a school parking lot. This occurred in the first half mile of country road; as I realized I had no braking power I turned into a park lot and called for a tow truck. Fortunately there was little traffic that evening. This produced unnecessary anxiety for me even though I was close to home. Our mechanic checked many things, finally deciding it was diagnostic codes po306, po316, po109, po 300, and po304. Ford tells me this is not under warranty. Once again I felt this problem placed me in a potentially life-threatening situation for me as the throttle body had done previously (before the recall). I have nearly 3 computer pages of problems with this vehicle, ranging from seat belt latches, rear seat latches, hatch latch and defroster, quarter panel paint defect and rust, fan speed and effectiveness. This latest incident and the throttle body issues are the most serious. Tonight Ford informed me there is no Ford complaint form online. I was adamant that a Ford engineer needs to call me so I can discuss all the issues with this vehicle. Trade in value on this vehicle has probably plummeted due to all the issues. This vehicle was paid off in 3 years and I am not in a position to buy a new vehicle but I hope it will not be the death of me. In the interest of public safety I hope these problems can be resolved. After all the issues with this Escape I wonder how many car "accidents" are really "accidents". Thank you for reviewing this data.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2015

Was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas peddle and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. The service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. Went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2015

Tell us what happened: was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas pedal and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. The service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. Went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

I had my Escape in for the recall to have the throttle body updated in 8/6/2014. At the time of the recall I had not had any problems with the throttle. 1 year later while driving on the highway I lost acceleration, my cruise went off and the wrench light came on, pulled over and started it up again,no wrench light. Happens again. Also when I slow down and stop for lights, stop sign the rpms go up and down like it's going to kill. Made appontment to have it checked, of course I will get stuck paying for it but will fight till my dying day. Ford get your shit together and fix this issue. As soon as I can I wiil sell and not buy another Ford product for the rest of my life. Social network here I come. I will hollar at the tops of my lungs so every one hears how Ford sucks. I will update after the appointment with the Ford dealership!!!.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

We lost power from our gas pedal. Then it got hot. Then it would not move.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2015

I was stopped at a traffic light, with the brake engaged, and my car lunged forward into the car ahead of me, damaging it's liftgate (minivan) and bumper. I initially thought someone must have rear-ended my car, pushing me into the other car, but I was not hit from behind. My foot was on the brake the entire time. I am concerned this might happen again, injuring someone possibly in a crosswalk, or lunging me into cross traffic.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

The first time it happened, we were on our way to a funeral, an hour away, driving our 2010 Escape about 55 mph. Everything was fine and then the car jerked, the wrench light came on - had no acceleration, no power steering, no control. It was scary! luckily, my husband was able to pull to the side of the road without incident. Turned the car off and said a prayer of thanks! car started back up after a couple of minutes, although not easily. Did the same thing on our way back home. Suffice it to say, this problem continued to happen. Found out the car is going into "safe mode". My husband drives an hour to work (each way), all highway, approx. 70-75 mph and about halfway through his commute, the problem will happen. He has to get out of the way of the other drivers and find a safe spot to park. Not always an easy task on the highway. Took the car to the local Ford dealership for this problem and other recall work (14s05 and 13b17). They told us they would take care of the issues. The next day, the wrench light came on, the check engine light is on and same problem still happens, although now the car drives in a lower gear and eventually you can accelerate, but not quickly. Still not safe on the highway. Found out today, dealership will look at the diagnostic code for $70 to see if there is a problem. Ridiculous!! they aren't the ones in an unsafe car!.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2015

While driving at a regular speed of aprx 60mph, my car would make impulses and accelerate by itself. On a couple of times, I almost rear ended the cars ahead of me. And when I would come to a stop sign or red light, my car would stop in the middle of the road. Took it for an inspection, the told me it was the trottle what was giving me a problem. I looked up online and it seems like this is a very common problem for Ford Escapes 2010. Please take care of this. Its an awful feeling when you are driving on a curb at 60 mph and suddenly your car accelerates. Don't wait until someone gets hurt to do something about this. Its always better and cheaper to prevent problems instead of fixing them.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2015

I was driving on the road and my gas pedal went soft. I could not get any speed and I had to pull over in order to avoid from being hit in the middle of traffic. Now my car is in the shop which cost money.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

I pulled out of my street on to a main road and with no warning my Escape shut off completely while driving and multiple cars almost hit me because it was so unexpected. Now my car randomly shuts off and goes into limp mode, causing it to be quite dangerous to drive my vehicle because it gives you no warning.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

Turn into a parking space and hit the brake to stop , car surged forward and jumped the curb. Hit a bus shelter, side swiped a tree , then jump curb back to parking lot before Escape came to a full stop. First time sled on a small patch of ice car surged brakes never took hold slid and avoided and street light and a tree before coming to a full stop. Took car to shop for oil change had brakes checked said no problem. But sometimes this SUV has a power surge when appling brakes.
