36 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

When driving primarily at low or declining speeds as in anticipation of a stop light or turn into my driveway, when I slow down and then slightly accelerate (either into the driveway or if the light changes before I have fully stopped), I notice a stall or pause in acceleration. This has happened a number of times but I only recently realized the consistent scenario. I had possibly the same symptom at higher speed when driving on the freeway, noticing the speed would seem to fluctuate oddly while in rapid and quick succession like it was trying to decide whether to accelerate or decelerate. I am very concerned that this is a sign of a failing throttle body per a Ford recall. After reading about this failure, I am convinced it is so. My dealership tells me they can only diagnose a total failure of this part--which seems to me like my life is at risk to being hit from behind or from the side if the car stalls in heavy traffic. I am becoming afraid to drive this car. If the part is bad are we just going to sacrifice a few people's lives before holding a congressional investigation?? how many is enough?.

37 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2014

I have had the two recalls fixed in July for my 2010 Ford Escape. However, in the past two months my car has been in the shop regarding the (wrench light) throttle/powertrain light coming on. My car looses power when I accelerate and the light comes on. It goes off once I turn off the car which is making it very difficult for the dealership to identify the problem. They claim they can't find anything and unfortunately I can't get the car to the dealership when the light is on. They have run a history for the codes that have come up on the car, but there are no recent codes/problems. I keep telling them that I am having the same problems listed in the Ford recall notice but I am told that there is nothing they can do if there is no code showing a problem. I am terrified to drive my son in this car. I also commute 100 miles daily down a very busy highway and I am worried that the car will die and I won't be able to pull off the road safely. Ford needs to do something immediately because the problem with the Escape has not been fixed!.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

I was driving home after picking my children up from school. I was going about 45 mph when suddenly I lost acceleration to the car. The car decreased speed very fast and the vehicle behind me had to slam on their brakes and came very close to hitting me. A wrench light came on. Come to find out Ford is aware of a throttle issue and have a extended warranty. I am confused to why this hasn't been called for recall. This is so dangerous to all of us. The safety of my family has been put in danger due to this issue that Ford is aware. Including the NHTSA is aware of this issue. Are we waiting for lives to be taken to make this a recall? not once Ford sent me a letter, email, or even called me to inform there was a extended warranty to get this issue fixed. As I spoke with Ford, one of the agents said "we are being proactive and getting this issue fixed for free. " what a joke. I can't imagine if I was on a major highway going 65mph. This is very dangerous and needs to be resolved right away. Is there a number of people that must die before NHTSA make this a recall? if NHTSA and Ford know there is an issue with this equipment why not get this fixed?.

39 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Acceleration ability stopped abruptly on the interstate; had to coast to shoulder. Engine trouble/wrench light illuminated. Had it towed to transmission shop. Have fully documented p2112 code indicating throttle body assembly problem. Vehicle has experienced other shuddering/gear changing in the past, documented with the dealership. Ford refuses to service it under recall extended warranty because they didn't see the code. I did not know it should have been towed directly to them. Would be nice to receive this information from the dealership before it occurs. Dealership told me "next time" it happens to pull over, turn it off, restart it and drive it in to them for the necessary service. Ford customer service toll free representative said that it is not save once the light is on and should not be restarted and driven again. This is ludicrous: they are not taking responsibility nor providing safe and accurate information.

40 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2014

While on a busy 6 lane hwy. , I was at a center turn lane and completed my turn when light changed, then went to make my right turn on to the next road. . . . When my cars started to shake very badly and lost all power down to a crawl, and then stall, with cars behind me almost rear ending myself!! with horns blaring I was able to restart it to only have it do it again, only this time I was able to pull into the oil change shop there on that corner, where they checked for codes & found the "tac system stuck open". . . They checked all fluids and I drove to the local repair shop and went on to work to start researching the problem!!.

41 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

Me and my son were out I was driving around 35- 40 mph and my car started to feel strange out of the blue my wrench light comes on and then my engine light I lose all power I am hitting gas petal nothing happens. Just stops on busy street . I was terrified for our safety. I turn off car wait a few mins and start again it happened 3 times in a 3 mile radius. Its parked and not risking my life or somebody else.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

While traveling about 65 mph down the highway my 2010 Ford Escape's engine stopped completely. A warning light (the wrench on the Ford models) came on as a I coasted to a safe spot on the highway. Steering gave out a bit too. Car started right back up after I found a safe location to stop.

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

Vehicle had exited from freeway and was stopped on an exit ramp stop light. When gas was pushed to move vehicle from stopped position, the engine accelerated but the vehicle would not move forward. Initially, the wrench light appeared on dash and then later, this disappeared and the check engine light came on. Vehicle was taken to a nearby auto parts facility where a computer code evaluation was completed- this yielded the same code appearing 3 times: a problem involving the throttle actuator control system sensor. The technician stated that when the same problem code appears 3 times during the check, this accurately pin-points the problem.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

My family and I were traveling hw 113 in va coming back to PA from nc. My husband accelerated to pass a vehicle. After passing, our vehicle began losing acceleration. . . My husband pushed the gas pedal to the floor and was not getting any acceleration. The wrench light illuminated and we had to make an emergency stop on the side of the highway while cars were passing us and coming up on us quickly. We came to a stop and the vehicle began to stall. My husband shut the vehicle off, waiting a minute and restarted. The vehicle seemed to run fine the rest of the way to PA. We called the dealership the following day (Monday) and were told they could not get the vehicle in until 8/4. I began finding info on the web regarding Ford's customer satisfaction program 13n03 regarding the throttle body. I took the vehicle in and was told there were not any codes showing on the computer. They refused to replace the throttle body. I was told to drive the vehicle and if it happened again to bring it back. I refused and insisted they replace it. I am now still fighting with Ford to reimburse me. I have sent letters to Ford only to receive a "form letter" back from them suggesting that I take the vehicle to the dealership to determine if the throttle body needs replacement. . . I had it replaced already. . . They obviously do not read letters sent to them. I will keep fighting but I do not understand why the NHTSA continues to receive complaints about this issue and does nothing about it. It is a huge safety issue! shame on Ford and the NHTSA!.

45 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

I was driving along and my car stopped receiving input from the gas pedal at 50 mph entering the highway. This happened a month ago. This has happened twice as well as my car taking off when I accelerate from stopped position. Today 7/31/14 the gas pedal failed to work again when in a turn thank god nobody was behind me. You guys know there is a throttle body issue with all these Ford Escapes but yet you let them get away with this. Does someone have to die from a rear end collision because the trottle stays closed on the highway? people's lives are at stake here. My wife and kid are in this car what happens I go to pull out and it decides to just stay stuck halfway into the lane bam I get t boned then have to sue everyone that knew about this issue.

46 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated while turning a corner, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. Also, the contact indicated that the vehicle had surged intermittently on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,150.

47 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

I was driving on highway (with two children under 4 in the car), luckily it was stop and go traffic. The car completely and without warning lost power and I could no longer accelerate. I was able to put hazards on and pull over to the break-down lane (across three lanes of traffic), turn the car off and back on again. It restarted immediately. (weather was warm- mid 60s, no humidity, I had driven the car earlier in the day and had been driving for about 20 minutes. The car is well maintained and had recently had an oil change. ).

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2014

While driving the engine started misfiring and idling rough. Vehicle lost power, would not accelerate and I rolled to the side of the road where I restarted the car and it drove normally.

49 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

When traveling at approx 50 mph, the engine made an automatic DE acceleration, with the rpms going to 1000. Even when stepping on the gas pedal, the rpms did not change and the car came to a very slow speed just over idle speed. A wrench symbol appeared in the indicator lights. I placed in park and turned off the car. When restarting, the wrench symbol went away and the car drove normal for about 20 miles until the same thing happened. It appears that something in the computer brains is telling the engine to shut down. This happened a few more times over weekend and thankfully I was not in heavy traffic and was able to pull off to the shoulder. Today is may 4, 2014 and tomorrow I plan to take the car into Ford dealership on sterling virginia. I have read recent complaints from Ford Escape owners that match exactly my problem. This is obviously unsafe and should be reported as a re call.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

On Dec. 31 at approximately 2 p. M. I was driving south on citrus Ave. I was going 55 mph and my vehicle started losing speed. I moved to the side of the road. I turned off the ignition and when I restarted the car it ran as normal. Prior to that, on several occasions upon starting from a stop I had noticed faster acceleration than the amount of pressure I was applying to the gas pedal.

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2014

While driving approx 45-60 mph wrench icon and engine icon lights came on vehicle stopped accelerating everything else worked and engine was still running, gas pedal did not accelerate or raise rpm's. Pulled to side of road put in park and turned engine off, vehicle started with hesitation wrench light did not appear, engine light remained on though vehicle was drivable again. Problem happend repetitively the rest of the 45 min drive home with wrench light appearing and acceleration ceasing had to pull over and restart numerous times. Engine icon remains lit.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

2010 Ford Escape. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle throttle body issues. The consumer she received a letter regarding the throttle body, but didn't think it sounded too serious. The letter stated engine power and vehicle speed would be reduced. The consumer stated she had the misfortune of experiencing the problem on March 16, 2014. The speed was not just reduced, but the gas pedal was inoperable and the vehicle just coasted to a stop, as if she had run out of gas. All the while, the engine was running, although not smoothly and all the lights were in working order. Minutes later, the wrench light illuminated on the dashboard.

53 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the vent controls failed without warning. The contact was unable to use the air conditioning and heating function. Years before, the dealer replaced the power steering control module and the ic module, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body sensor and blower motor failed. The contact later experienced an extremely strong vibration in the steering wheel and the power steering warning light flashed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The dealer replaced the parts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,411.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

While driving at 55mph on road. I lost all power to gas pedal the car was hard to steer to the side of the road. Put car in park shut car off . Waited a few minutes an started car up. It ran. This happens2or3 times on the same day then it might not happen again for a week or two this a ongoing problem that Ford should place o asafety recall not on soft customer satisfaction program#13no3 this is aserious safety issue.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2014

Was driving down the road when almost all of the power from the engine was lost. Engine was running at an idle. Would not respond to the throttle/gas pedal. I managed to get it to limp close to the dealership and get it towed the rest of the way. Happened just today and the dealership called and said that it is indeed the throttle body. They said it wasn't covered under my power train warranty and they are replacing it for a cost of roughly $450.

56 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

Was driving lost all power at first then was able to move at 2 mph when gas pedal was fully depressed, car started to shake. Heard loud pop then engine light came on dash. I was able to creep along to get out of moving traffic. Drove at the side of the road until I tried to get into a parking area which required me to make a left turn with traffic coming waited and waited then from a complete stop I make the turn into the lot which has a slight incline I was flooring the gas pedal still with out any power of more than 2 mph worried I would slip back into moving traffic. Parked called a tow truck. Turned off engine went into work. Came back out of work restarted car no check engine light and everything seem to work fine after that. Frightened I could have caused a serious accident for other and myself.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

I own a 2010 Ford Escape. I was driving approximately 40 mph up a slight incline on a two lane road at 6:30 am in the dark when suddenly the vehicle jerked and would not accelerate. The wrench warning icon illuminated. While on the decline of the road I was able to coast into the first lane and into a break down lane and into a parking lot at a very slow rate of speed because once you applied the brakes and slowed down you could not regain any speed. I shut the engine off and was able to restart the vehicle without failure within a few mintues but the vehicle was not running right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced and the serpentine belt. The vehicle was repaired at the dealer. I cannot believe this is not a safety recall issue for Ford. I could have been hit multiple times on rte 1 trying to get my vehicle over two lanes of traffic to the side of the road.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Vehicle's engine cuts out and I lose control. It has happened numerous times and one time the engine shut down three times during a short trip of ten miles. I have to turn the key off and start the engine again. Fortunately we don't travel very fast here.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

This is the 2nd time the engine has stalled. First time was oct. 31st, 2013. Driving in residential street and acceleration decreases, car shutters, and wrench light comes on along with other indicators. Coasts to side of road. After about 2-3 minutes, starts up and able to drive home (approximately 2 miles).

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

I was driving south on hwy 53, doing 55 mph when the car jumped out of gear. The engine was still running at idlespeed, but when I depressed the gas pedal nothing happened. Also the wrench light and the engine light where both on. I had to pull off the side of the road to avoid traffic and shut off the engine. I waited a minute and it started right back up with only the engine light on. This was the 5th time this happened in 2 days and was the same each time. I drove straight to the dealer where I had bought it and they did a check and retrieved p2111 in koec, then performed etb internal ids pinpoint test. Etb or throttle body failed test. They replaced the throttle body and motor asy, which is a known problem, and charged me $432. 65. I believe Ford should have replaced this at no cost, since this is a known problem.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

I was driving along at 35-40 mph, in traffic, and the gas pedal completely quit! and a little yellow wrench showed up on my dashboard. No other lights showed up. A complete failure of the gas pedal ensued. I had to coast through traffic to the side of the road. I found that if I turned off engine and restarted car, the "wrench" went away and I had power until the next time it happened. Mechanic said this was "limp mode. " I took it into dealer but they could not get the "code" to determine the problem. Over two weeks this became more frequent and after the 4th time, the "check engine" light came on. They finally could get the code and it was a total throttle body failure! I stopped driving the car and am waiting for the part. At this time, I have an appointment for repair on Monday, Dec 30th. This repair will cost me approx $200-$400 dollars! I'm very upset, of course, but thankful that this didn't cause an accident. I am 64 years old and a single woman!.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2013

Was driving to work and car stalled. Hit the gas and nothing happened. Pulled over on shoulder, turned car off, and restarted. Immediately took car to dealership and fuel throttle body malfunction was diagnosed as the cause. Can I get a refund, as this seems to be a common problem?.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving 40 mph, an unknown warning light illuminated and the vehicle speed independently decreased to 10 mph. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to maneuver and required excessive force. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

While driving vehicle it will rev high and then stall while in traffic. Starts back up fine and then immediately stalls out again. This has happened three different times in the past 3 weeks.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2013

Driving on freeway, at about 65mph, when all of the sudden the engine stalled and power was cut dramatically from the engine. Unable to control speed and instantly started stopping. Had to pull over sharply and unsafely on the side of an on-ramp narrowly having car behind us miss us. Turned off vehicle and had to wait about 20 seconds before restarting the car. It then worked ok. Happened several times on one trip of about 20 miles. Took to a dealer and they diagnosed it as the throttle body needing to be replaced.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2013

Our 2010 Ford Escape has had the exact problem described in the NHTSA case number pe 13003. Our vehicle has 43,000 miles on it and driving to work on a fast moving city street at approx 45-50 mph and the car lost all throttle control and went into the described "limp mode", no warning or check engine lights came on. We had a very difficult time controlling the car and getting it off the road while trying to Dodge traffic. Limp mode does not describe the available power. At 900 rpm you can walk faster than the car will drive. . . The transmission is also acting as an engine brake and slowing the car even faster so I popped it into neutral and was able to coast to the side of the road. We turned off the ignition and restarted and the car started fine. Put it in gear and accelerated to approx 20 mph and it went into limp mode again and this time the small wrench light came on in the dash. A gearbox or transmission problem? luckily we were still on the side of the road so we again turned off the car and restarted to reset (wrench light went out) and it worked fine for the next 14 miles as we were going to the Ford dealer. Just as we were arriving it did it a third time, this time the check engine light came on and they were able to retrieve the dtc code of 2112 and diagnosed a defective throttle body assembly. The service manager was not aware of any recall and charged us $589 dollars for the repair (part, labor, diagnostic test and calibration of the computer). We have been the only owners of this car and it has had all of its normal service done. At 43k miles it is, for all purposes, still a new car. Lucky for us it happened on city streets and not at highway speeds. Hopefully Ford will issues a recall on these to repair them.

68 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

I have a 2010 Ford Escape. While driving home last night (11/19/2013) my car basically died while I was in motion. I applied pressure to the gas petal and nothing happened. The rpms bounced around and the wrench light came on. I was able to coast to safety. I put the car in park and engaged my emergency flashers. I took the key out of the ignition and waited a minute. After starting the car again, everything was ok. The problem again happened not 12 hours later in the morning (11/20/2013) while driving to work. I hate to think of what could of happened had my two young children been in the car with me and this happened on the highway. My car is at the shop currently getting repaired, however, I am not stuck with a payment that is a know issue and potential safety problem.

69 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2013

I had just stopped at a stop sign. When I accelerated to go forward, the car died. I pushed it to the side of the road and waited a few minutes. The car started right up. Quite frightening. I was fortunate there was minimal traffic on the road when it died.

70 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

At night, while stopped on red traffic light waiting for change to green, the vehicle stalls an shut off. Did not start right over until a while. All dashboard panel lights were on. After 45 minutes tried to start it and it just move very, very slow and did not accelerate until it died again a 100 feet farther. We call road assistance to take us home in a towing truck. At the other day we call the towing truck again to take the SUV to the dealer since it was in warranty, when we start it before leaving it was working fine. The service tech at Ford tell us that probably it is the throttle body since other people has been having the same issue. They test it and they say that nothing is wrong. . . My warranty is about to expire and I think that they are playing us to take the unit home and when it happen again charge us for the cost of the part. . . $$$$ very expensive!!! this is a hazardous issue since it can happen while driving it can cause an accident or lost of life.
