The contact exited the vehicle to find that the liftgate was hanging from the rear of the vehicle. The contact noticed that the hinges were severely corroded, fractured, and detached from the body of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to bob maxey Ford, inc. (1833 jefferson avenue, detroit, mi, 48207) where it was diagnosed that the hinges were rusted and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
