36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

Tl- the contact owns 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving over 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was unable to determine the failure and an unknown error message appeared on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,000. Djr.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

My car will be idling and suddenly power down. Recently while I have been slowing down at a traffic light, stop light, or braking for traffic it will power down. After researching online I have found that hundreds of other Ford Escape owners have had the same issue, some have had it happen while driving at high rates of speed. I have taken it to 4 different mechanics, 2 of which are Ford dealerships and they work on it charge me a lot of money and it continues to happen. Almost a year now! I'm fed up.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

While driving along my Ford Escape suddenly refused to accelerate, I was holding the gas to the floor and it wouldn't budge. It was idling strangely and surging. A wrench symbol appeared in the screen on the dash. I was on a hill and was unable to pull of the road. Luckily, no one was behind me. I waited a few moments and restarted the Escape, it went and then continued to decelerate once again. I will be taking this back to the dealership to be fixed. But I am very concerned, upon researching the issue I found many more complaints online. Why hasn't this issue been recalled? it is highly dangerous and it is only a matter of time before the Escape cuts off at the wrong time and gets someone killed. This needs to be addressed before it become an epidemic like the chevy cobalt.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2014

As I was driving my car lost it throttle. The engine continued to run but I had no ability to accelerate. I pulled the car over. Turned it off, then back on and the car appeared to show no issues. About two weeks later the issue appeared again. Same solution. From my research this appears to be a common issue and could very much endanger anyone in the vehicle.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

Entered left turn lane to approach off ramp, truck stalled. Appx 40mph. Turned off and restarted, drove home. Had noticed jumping response from idle to reverse to drive, particularly upon first ignition of day, for about a week. Have contacted dealership for repair of noted throttle body issue, which is scheduled for 1 week from today.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Drivers side door latch switch says it is not latched, but it is. This causes the interior dome lights to remain on while driving. Hard to drive at night with lights on. Dangerous. Doors do not lock properly because it thinks the door is ajar. I understand thousands of complaints on this exact issue.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2014

Driving down freeway at 85 miles per hour. Vehicle stalls and rpms or mph won't move. Pull over put in park, vehicle shakes real bad and wrench comes on. Turn off and restart, wrench drops off. 50 miles down the road same instance, except after restarting wrench drops and check engine light comes on. Bring to dealership. Throttle actuator control system stuck open and they say possible recall. Week later going 65 down highway and same instance happens. Take it to different dealership and they say we have throttle body recall, they recalibrate the recall. Now vehicle doesn't always switch rpms when it's supposed to. It'll jerk before shifting and then wrench and check engine light comes back on. Back to dealership and they say throttle actuator control and possible new throttle body down the road. Spent almost 1000 dollars on recall in last couple months and now they telling us the recall was just a recalibration and but might need a new throttle body?? what was the recall for. Frustrated with Ford.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

The vehicle was taken into a Ford dealership to be serviced and after that the control module for the airbags went out. The part had to be ordered and while we were on vacation the steering began locking up and the traction control lights began showing disabled. Also, the car began saying to resync something because the tire pressure was low when it was just fine. After returning from vacation and the steering column totally locking up several times, the dealership now tells us that additional control modules are out. When the steering locks it requires stopping no matter where you are at and turning off the vehicle to reset and then starting it again. This probably happened a dozen or more times on busy highways. This vehicle is roughly three years old and they can't even say why the modules are continuing to go out and if fixing them will even solve the problem. The dealership also indicated that the traction control issue could cause the vehicle to roll on curvy roads. I spoke with customer service and they said to bad, this is not on thier list of items that they have to fix. They will let engineering know but no guarantee that they will even respond to this issue. Will never buy a Ford again in this case as this is going to cost roughly $2500 - $3500 to fix and nothing to say it won't go out again. I have never had an electronic control module go out on any other vehicle let alone after 3 years and Ford is not helpful.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

The engine has stalled on multiple occasions. Several of the incidents have occurred when making a turn, either right or left, at a low speed with no pressure being applied to either the gas or brake pedal. The most recent events have been when turning onto a street with oncoming traffic. I make the turn and press on the gas only to find that the engine has stalled. I have to stop and restart the vehicle. This makes for a dangerous situation as you end up with little control of the vehicle. It has also stalled in parking lots when coasting at a low speed waiting on another car. I purchased this vehicle used in may of 2014 and had to take it to a local Ford dealership the very next month (June 2014). The dealership replaced the throttle body and motor assembly and also reprogrammed the pcm per the 13n01 recall. Within two months, the issue was back, this is January of 2015, and the issue has gotten much worse. I have read that it could be a type of relay switch located in the under-the-hood fuse box. If Ford doesn't fix this issue, there will eventually be wrecks and possible fatalities.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

A/c pump cycles on and off but no a/c in summer. In winter -the defroster cuts out which I believe is a overheating resister thus not cycling the a/c. Also switch is inop for fan on positions 1 and 2. I believe the system " malfunction" is a fire/ safety issue and needs a safety campaign because of all weather hazards such as fog, excessive summer temps, and freezing temps with condensation. Thanks.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

Loss of power at highway speed, 70 miles per hour, during rush hour traffic. My wife had to pull over to breakdown lane and turn off engine, on I-95 in west palm beach FL area. Wrench light illuminated. Vehicle restarted, after a few minutes waiting at side of very busy highway. Second time this happened within two weeks. Very dangerous situation!!!!!! 2011 Ford Escape ltd 3 l v6.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

It's stalling in motion or suddenly surging forward when accelerating from a stop, posing a serious safety risk to vehicle occupants, other motorists and pedestrians. Intermittent vehicle stalls and surges as they enter traffic from a stopped position or while driving at highway speeds.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

After intermittent 3 times in 2 weeks, had throttle body cleaned 12/14/2013 per Ford TSB. On this date, 12/16/13 it failed again and had the throttle body replaced at my expense. Ford would not cover it after 36,000 or 3 years as out of warranty. It was an extremely hazardous condition not to replace. This part should be recalled immediately for replacement.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

Nhtsa action number - dp12006 vehicle stalls going 65 mph. Issue is not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty why???? why has there not been a recall on this issue??????.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2013

While driving along highway, my gas pedal suddenly became completely unresponsive. Was luckily able to coast off to shoulder of the highway and SUV began to idle extremely roughly. Restarted vehicle and was able to drive home without additional problems. Researched issue today and found numerous examples of this problem. Issue should be recalled!!.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2013

Driving normal speed, without warning, "wrench icon" appears and gas pedal fails to respond. Coast to stop in a parking lot. Shut off engine, restart vehicle and it drives normal for remainder of 2 mile trip. Start next errand and same thing happens. Sounds like the throttle body failure and limp mode that I have been researching online.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

On 10/16/13, while driving on the freeway at 60mph and attempting to accelerate vehicle lost power in the center lane forcing me to have to make a dangerous move without power to try and bring the vehicle to rest in the emergency breakdown lane on the right. The vehicle "check engine light" came on along with some other type of wrench light. Was able to start the vehicle up right away but this time the check engine light stayed on. Code p2112 - electronic throttle body was replaced by Ford on 10/17/13 for $320. 76 vehicle also lost power on 10/10/13 while at a low speed and trying to accelerate to enter the freeway. The wrench light came on but not the check engine light. Was able to restart the vehicle and the wrench light went away.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

I was driving to work in the morning and my Escape stalled while going through a four way intersection. I thought that this may have been an isolated incident so I continued driving. I then noticed while I was in traffic that the engine would shutter and not idle normally. It stalled again the next day. I took it to the Ford dealership in the city where I live with the check engine light on, they tested it and then the light reset itself?? they took it on a test drive and nothing happened with them while they were driving so they said that there was nothing that they could do. My car is shutting off while I am in trafic and driving, this is a serious safety issue. I have been blessed that the brakes work on the cars that drive around me or else I would have been in a serious accident on more than one occasion this week!!! please recall these cars and get them fixed before someone dies!!!!.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

At 55 mph our 2011 Ford Escape lost all power with no warning at all. Had to push it out of the middle of the highway. Throttle control/powertrain light came on. Turned ignition completely off and restarted the engine, light went out and ran fine. Going in for service ASAP.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

I was pulling out of the doctor's office with my wife and newborn child and as I pulled out (I had plenty of safe distance if my car were functioning properly) my car all of a sudden lost any acceleration capabilities and the rpm's dropped extremely low. The speed limit on the road was 55 and it started when I got to 30mph making it so the traffic already on the road ran up right behind me and nearly hit me. I was helpless and could not go any faster. This is an extremely dangerous defect, even though the car never lost complete power I lost all control to accelerate and continued to slow with fast traffic all around me. I am lucky that it did not result in an accident or any injuries to myself, family, or other motor vehicle operators. I took my Escape to the closest Ford dealership who informed me that the electronic throttle body had failed. It was not very comforting when he knew exactly what was going on when I told him what happened because he had seen this same situation so many times. I cannot believe that there is not a recall on this manufacturer defect and I hope it does not result in any accidents or worse.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

On four seperate occasions, while accelerating the throttle gave out. The vehicle had no power to move forward, except what was left from the original speed. On one of theses occasions, I was on a major highway in the DC area when the throttle gave out. I turned on my hazards and pulled over. Thankfully the cars behind me had enough room not to crash into me. I then turned off the car. Once restarted, it seemed to stall a bit and then drove normally until the next incident. There have been 4 incidents within 5 days, all seeming to happen at random. The "wrench" flashes once the throttle goes out, but then doesn't appear once the car is back on and everything seems normal. Ford has given me problems, saying this falls outside my warranty and I may have to pay for the repair myself. They also wont see me for a week, when this merits immediate attention. I just bought this vehicle in March 2013, after this problem had already been reported by thousands of existing owners. Had I know about this problem, I would not have purchased this vehicle because it is so unsafe.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

While driving on an expressway around 35-40mph, vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power and went into limp mode (less than 1000rpm) with a wrench indicator illuminated on the dashboard. Pulled over, shut down vehicle and then restarted engine. Vehicle was driven home and taken to the dealership the next day. Ford diagnosed and is replacing the throttle body under powertrain warranty.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2013

Vehicle shuts down or does not respond to accelerator. You turn it off wait a few minutes, start it again and it gets moving. Problem occurred twice in one day. 10 days later the problem re-emerged three times.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Was driving on highway at 55 mph, the wrench light came on dashboard and the car started decelerating. Would not accelerate, had to pull over, turn car off, then back on, in order for car to accelerate again. Second incident seemed like car's power completely shut off and would not come back on again after a rough idling stop.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

The car went into limp mode while driving. . . Gas pedal would not do anything until I pulled over and restarted. Wrench light and check engine come on, but go off after car is restarted. Took to dealer today after about 6 occurrences in the past month. It seems to be happening more frequently.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

We had our 2011 Escape in the dealership 2 times due to it completely shutting down while driving before they could figure out that is was a failed throttle body (electrical issue). They told us it was "bad gas" every other time. We had our infant in the vehicle when it shut down on the freeway and scared the crap out of us. Thankfully we were able to get away from other vehicles and make an emergency exit from the freeway onto the shoulder until the vehicle came to a stop. Its extremely dangerous and Ford needs to address this and create a recall. I have done research to find so many others with the same exact issue. Our vehicle is in the shop as we speak to the tune of a $500 fix and I just got off the line with Ford customer service to demand a reimbursement. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if they will work with us on the cost. Our vehicle only has 44k miles on it and we had it serviced before the warranty expired and were told everything was fine. We also had it in for service other times for this issue.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

I was driving on an interstate at approximately 75 mph, when the engine of my 2011 Ford Escape seemingly shut down. The gas pedal stopped working. A small golden wrench icon lit up to the left of the rpm gauge. I pulled over and as I slowed, the car jerked. I turned the car off; took out the keys and waited a few minutes. The engine had a little extra trouble to restart; but it did within 30 seconds. Two days later, a diagnostics test at my Ford dealership showed the throttle body needed to be replaced; but I was told the part was on a national back order. The same incident repeatedly happened for a total of about 10 times, before the part was at the dealership and able to be replaced. The part was replaced more than two weeks after the diagnostics test and initial incident.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

I was traveling 60 mph on the highway when the vehicle lost power, I had to coast over to the side of the road, turn off the vehicle and turn it back on. The vehicle would start but then return to idle with no throttle response. This went on repeatedly before I had to have it towed to a dealership. Because this occured on a Saturday afternoon the service department was closed and I was unable to speak to anyone. First thing Monday morning when I went in they first told me they did not know about the problems with the throttle control unit. Upon presenting them with numerous copies of complaints filed on line they finally aknowledged that there was a problem. However with no recall I would need to pay for a replacement which with towing resulted in a $550. 00 bill. Apparently I was very lucky that there was one replacement in stock (hmmm), otherwise it would be weeks. I hope the replacement works because it has been a chronic problem for months. Skeptical to say the least.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

I was driving and the vehicle stalled. I turned the engine off and restarted it drove fine almost a week later it happened again maybe 3 miles from my home I turned engine off and restarted drove about 1 mile and it done it again and picture of a wrench came on instrument panel I drove about 1 mile again and stalled again. I started vehicle again and the check engine light was on and I made it to my driveway. Had vehicle towed to Ford dealership and the called and said it is the electronic throttle body and would be a few days because they have to order the part and it will be $349. 00. I was surfing the web to see what the part was when I say this page about others having the same problem.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

I was driving home on the highway during rush hour. A yellow wrench light began flashing on the lower left side of the dashboard. I felt the engine lose power and saw that the car was decelerating. I pressed on the gas pedal with no effect. I signaled and moved over to the shoulder of the road. Approximately 10 feet after I reached the shoulder, the car stopped moving forward and stalled. I turned it off, let it sit for a few minutes and attempted to turn it on again. The engine would not turn over. I called and had the car towed to the Ford dealership. In speaking to the mechanic the next day, he told me e problem was a failed throttle body and would need to be replaced. This dealership was back ordered for the part as 5 other Ford vehicles were awaiting a new throttle body. Upon researching this issue, I realized that my vehicle also experienced a "lurching forward" which was likely also related to the throttle body. This lurching had been going on for several months at intermittent times.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

I was driving down the road at 40 mph and my vehicle just quit running (lost power) and I had to pull over to the side of the road. The engine light came on when this happened, it looked like a wrench figure on the dash. After letting my Escape sit for about 30 seconds,it started right up. After it started, I put it in drive and proceeded to go down the road and after about two miles, my vehicle quit running again. After a few seconds of sitting, I started it up again and managed to get into a Ford dealership and they said the problem was a throttle problem and replaced the part which cost me $342. 00. The dealership said this had been a problem with many Escapes and said this part may be on the verge of a recall.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

The contact owns a 2011 Ford edge. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate, the transmission slipped and the vehicle jerked. The vehicle was placed in park and the traction sensor warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that after closing the driver's side door, the door ajar warning light remained illuminated. As a result, the overhead light stayed illuminated causing the battery to lose power. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 18,500. The current mileage was 19,000.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

My 2011 Ford Escape has gone into limp mode while in motion three times this month, July 2013. My local Ford dealership diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning throttle body.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

Vehicle went into stall while traveling off of exit ramp. Have read that this is being investigated and needs to be recalled! dangerous and felt unsafe with my child in vehicle! if this happened at a high speed on hwy, it could lead to a crash and injury or even death!.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

I was traveling and suddenly lost power or throttle control. The car started stumbling and I had no power as I pushed on accelerator. The wrench symbol came on my control panel.
