I was driving along the highway and my ride shuddered some and lost acceleration, my engine light came on then the wrench symbol came on and it has stayed on. It's giving a throttle/ powertrain error. I've done some research and I've seen a lot of complaints concerning this issue and was told to file a complaint. Ford needs to issue a recall on this problem before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.
Driving to work my Escape lost power and sputtered to a stop. The wrench light came on. I shut off the radio, fan and vehicle. The turned the vehicle back on and it resumed running. I see there are several complaints regarding this issue. Hopefully, this will be my last or that a recall will come forward as this seems to be an ongoing issue with Fords.
My 2011 Escape transmission seemed to shift hard when slowing down at times. This would happen intermittently and did not cause a lot of problems when I first got it. It seemed to occur more frequently around the first of this year. I took it to a Ford dealership (bill collins Ford) to check the transmission. They kept it for several days before they even looked at it. The transmission needed software updates which I had to pay about $160 for. I had to take it back again a few months later and it was the same thing - needed a software update after they kept it several days again. There appears to be some type of problem with the transmission needing a software update so frequently.
Tl - the contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled as the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,500. Pam.
While driving along my Ford Escape suddenly refused to accelerate, I was holding the gas to the floor and it wouldn't budge. It was idling strangely and surging. A wrench symbol appeared in the screen on the dash. I was on a hill and was unable to pull of the road. Luckily, no one was behind me. I waited a few moments and restarted the Escape, it went and then continued to decelerate once again. I will be taking this back to the dealership to be fixed. But I am very concerned, upon researching the issue I found many more complaints online. Why hasn't this issue been recalled? it is highly dangerous and it is only a matter of time before the Escape cuts off at the wrong time and gets someone killed. This needs to be addressed before it become an epidemic like the chevy cobalt.
While driving on the highway, I heard a sound similar to the car's automatic transmission downshifting. I looked down and saw that I had no acceleration as I pushed on the gas pedal. I stopped at a safe location and sat with the car idling for about a minute. During this time I noticed the rpms hunting at idle speed. I turned the car off. I restarted the car and the engine turned over a few more times than usual before it finally caught. After that, I had no other problems for the two more hours I drove it. This problem appears to be with the electronic throttle body giving either a false signal or temporarily losing signal.
As I was driving my car lost it throttle. The engine continued to run but I had no ability to accelerate. I pulled the car over. Turned it off, then back on and the car appeared to show no issues. About two weeks later the issue appeared again. Same solution. From my research this appears to be a common issue and could very much endanger anyone in the vehicle.
I was driving along the highway at 70 mph, when I felt a 'clunk'. The engine lost power and the 'wrench' light lit up. I was able to get the car to the shoulder of the road. I then turned the engine off, waited a couple minutes and then re-started the engine. The 'wrench' light did not return. I do not feel it is safe to drive until this issues is resolved.
At 11 pm I was driving down the road at 55 mph and I thought my car had shut off because I noticed I didn't have any power. I turned down the radio to hear for the engine but heard nothing. I had enough speed to coast to a safe lighted area to investigate what was happening, come to find out that my car was running but no throttle to make it move. A warning symbol showed up and it was a lighted wrench but I had no idea what that was until I dug out my owners manual the next day. I turned the key off, restarted the Escape and moved on my way. I traveled approx. 2 more miles at a slower speed and I lost speed with the wrench light appearing as well as the service engine soon light turning on. I was approaching a stop sign when this occurred. I turned the car off and back on again and was able to make it the additional 1/2 miles to my home. Doing research I see that I am not the only person that is having this same issue. I bought this vehicle used in June with 32,365 miles, this is the last thing I expected to happen with a newer vehicle. Please advise if this is considered a recall. Thank you!.
Had no problems until now! parked car at my office and 2 hours later wanting to leave and did not make it out of the parking lot. The gas pedal would not get power; but all other components appeared working fine. Turned the car off and re-started; within seconds same thing happen. I was ready to go on a 3 hour trip in morning on a busy interstate and now I am afraid to go since I do not want to get run over (have to go through much interstate construction. This powertrain failure is not safe and creates hazardous conditions on the road for everyone. Even with 50 miles per hour in a construction zone; it is very dangerous loosing the powertrain in a one land-bumper to bumper traffic with heavy trucks behind you. Picture yourself in this situation. I am certainly afraid to go on my business trip in the morning. Like guess people have to die first before Ford is taking some recall action! my car is regular maintained; this was not expected at all! I will not buy a Ford again!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a garage without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. Djr.
Driving down road and just quit running.
Driving 50 miles per hour, when a wrench lit up on dash and instantaneously the vehicle lost power to the throttle. Pulled over quickly, turned off vehicle, then restarted and went on about my way. Very scary and so scared it could happen in a busy traffic situation.
The Ford Escape has been randomly stalling at times while driving. I am forced to either pull off to the side of the road or quickly turn off my car and turn it back on again in the middle of the road.
During rush hour traffic on a busy highway, while attempting to accelerate from approximately 50 mph, the gas pedal become unresponsive, I began quickly losing speed, and a "wrench" light came on. I was in the right hand lane with a wide shoulder and was able to pull over before slowing to a complete halt. Had I been in a center lane or on a stretch with no shoulder, there could have easily been a severe accident. The engine sputtered and surged as I came to a stop. When I was completely stopped and shifted into park, the service engine light also came on. The vehicle was to towed to maxwell Ford (austin, TX), and the reported cause was "failed r&r throttle. ".
I was driving normally, at a constant speed, and all of a sudden, wrench light comes on, gas pedal didn't do anything. Putting it in park and shutting the engine, and starting again makes the light go away and run fine again.
Engine suddenly lost power several countless times during a 300 mile journey on a highway. I almost crashed vehicle during the early occurrences.
My daughter was driving on interstate 10 east of tallahassee, florida the vehicle warning light (wrench) came on and the vehicle began to slow down. The engine was still on but there was no power. She pulled to the side of the road, cut the engine off, and called home. I asked to start the engine to see what would happen. She did and the vehicle pulled off like nothing had happen. The second incident happen when I was going over an over pass on interstate 10 yesterday. I pull over on the side of the road, cut the engine off, waited ten second started up and drove off.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape . The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked violently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure and current mileage was 44,000.
As my wife was driving one morning the Ford Escape with out warning started to feel like there was no throttle when she stepped in the gas. She immediately pulled to the side of the road (coasting because the gas peddle wasn't responding. A little wrench (throttle body/powertrain) light came on, on the dash. This happened twice on this day, both times out of the blue. The Ford dealership looked at it and it was the throttle body. This shouldn't happen on a vehicle so new and such low mileage.
Accelerated from a stop and car lurched and engine seemed about to quit, got "wrench light" and was able to creep to get into parking lot. Took car to dealer and they ran diagnostics on car and said the throttle body needed to be replaced.
Driving on 5 lanre paved road at 50 mph when engine lost power did not stall. No throttle response. Was able to shift into neutral and coast into parking lot shut off engine and restarted problem went away. Took to dealer 3 days later where throttle body was replaced under warranty.
Car stalled. Wrench and engine light came on. We were going down a road that had no place to pull over. We were stuck in the middle of the road. Turned off car and restarted but was very slow to start. We turned around and went back home and it did it several more times. Called local Ford dealership and is going to cost over $400 to fix. This is a very dangerous problem and the part should be recalled.
Was driving 2011 Ford Escape and car started to jerk and decelerated with gas pedal not doing anything. Pulled over to the side of the road. The powertrain wrench light had come on then the check engine light. Restarted the car a minute later and it drove a few hundred feet before same thing happened and wrench light came on. Will get car towed to dealership. I am a long-time Ford owner. Ford needs to step to the plate and address this issue.
While driving down the highway on the way home from work in busy traffic, suddenly the engine came to an idle and a small icon of a ?wrench? lit up on the dashboard. After trying to maneuver through traffic on the busy highway at 5 mph (almost causing an accident) I was able to get to the side of the road. I shut the car off and restarted it, the icon of the wrench was gone and the car proceeded to run fine. I'm reporting this because I have heard this happen to other people and it was caused by a throttle body malfunction. This is an extremely dangerous situation on a busy highway.
I was traveling down the road at 55 mph, when the car lost power and began to slow. I notice that the wrench icon was lit on the display. The car was still running, but only at about 1000rpm and still slowing down. Increasing the gas pedal had no affect on the car. I was able to get off the road on to a side street. The car was able to pull itself along, but only at a snails pace. I stopped the car and shut engine off for a minute or 2, retried starting it and it cranked so I made it home. The car done the very same thing the next night, this time driving at 65mph on a 4 lane highway. . This sounds like the same problem others have described concerning the throttle body. This vehicle is too new for these problems to be happening. A dangerous situation in heavy traffic.
While driving the vehicle it will randomly lose all power and no longer move. I have to immediately pull to the side of the road in order to keep from getting hit because I cannot accelerate. This is extremely unsafe and I will not allow my wife to drive this vehicle because of this issue. The dealership said it is a faulty throttle body and they have seen this issue 6 times in the past 2 weeks!! Ford tells me that I have to pay for this out of pocket because it is not covered under power train warranty. There needs to be a recall!.
I was driving down I-5 and 2011 Ford Escape started to decelerate while foot was on the gas pedal. Had to switch lanes and exit highway before I lost momentum. No one was injured in the process. Shut it off for about ten minutes then turned it over but it struggled to fire. When started we drove straight home and parked it. I then got on the computer to research the issue and looked up any recalls on the vehicle. I found arfc and seen about 270 or more complaints about the same issue. I'm curious why Ford didn't recall this vehicle because that is a safety concern and with so many complaints you think something would be done.
While driving on a busy interstate in the center lane, my 2011 Ford Escape suddenly made a jerking motion, made a loud noise and then started slowing down quickly. I was pressing on the gas pedal but the car kept slowing down. I was barely able to get to the shoulder of the road. I feared for my life while doing this. I then noticed a wrench symbol lit on my dash. I checked the owners manual and the wrench symbol showed throttle control/powertrain. Since I have certified pre owned warranty with Ford, I called for roadside assistance. While waiting almost three hours in the rain for a tow truck and sitting on the shoulder of the road, I was terrified. I was almost hit by five semis. My car was towed to the closest Ford dealership. The throttle body was replaced.
Turning off the feeder road of the freeway and the vehicle shook and was unable to apply the gas. The engine was on but the car would not move. The wrench light came on. Have been told this is a throttle body issue and it is not covered under my extended warranty.
This vehicle has now been back to the dealer three times to fix the adaptive transmission. On occasion the vehicle lurches when shifting gears. The problem is especially acute having backed out of the garage and when putting the car into drive in the first 300 feet the vehicle "kickbacks". The dealer can only reboot the adaptive transmission. This resets the car for about one week and afterwards the vehicle goes back to the herky jerk pattern between gears.
Driving normal speed, without warning, "wrench icon" appears and gas pedal fails to respond. Coast to stop in a parking lot. Shut off engine, restart vehicle and it drives normal for remainder of 2 mile trip. Start next errand and same thing happens. Sounds like the throttle body failure and limp mode that I have been researching online.
Throttle body needed to be replaced driving on the highway at about 65mph, the car gave a small jerk and the wrench icon illuminated, the car appeared to still have power but there was no ability to accelerate. Luckily I was able to move over two lanes of busy, speedy traffic (as there was no left side shoulder) and pull off without causing an accident. I turned the vehicle off then restarted it, it appeared to run okay after that until about 3 miles later the exact thing occurred again. This happened three times on the highway and once I was able to exit it happened once again on a rural road at about 35-40mph. I called for service and took the car in the next day, while on the way to the dealer, the car did the same thing once more - at about 45 mph. This was an extremely nerve-wracking experience, especially while in heavy traffic on the freeway - it could have easily cause an accident and turned out much worse. Once the dealer called me to tell me what the issue was I looked online to see if I could find any information and came across hundreds of other complaints, almost exactly the same experience I had. I feel, based on the number of complaints I have read and the need for so many people to have this part replaced it should be a formal recall by Ford and not something that the consumer has to pay for, as I am now. It's only a matter of time before this situation occurs and causes serious injury or death, if that hasn't already happened.
Just left highway sitting at red light. Light turned green and proceeded to go when a tool light that looks like a wrench lit up on the dash. Car would not go just coasted along. I was able to slowly coast the car over to the side of the road after I turned my hazard lights on to alert the other drivers that I was having problems. I put the car in park and turned the car off. I was able to restart the car and continue to drive to my destination. I called the Ford service department that I take my vehicle to and was told that it sounds like the car needs a new throttle body.
Was driving down the highway at 55 mph and all of a sudden my vehicle would no longer accelerate. Luckily I was able to safely pull over and once I came to a stop I noticed my vehicle was idling rough and would not respond to the throttle and noticed the light with a wrench was also on. I turned the vehicle off and was able to start it back up and make it home and after doing some research this seems to be a very common problem with the Ford Escape. Will be taking to a dealer to see what they can do.
