2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 10/13/2016

Power steering failed while operating vehicle on public roads. I believe the falure was caused by a faulty steering torque sensor htat was the subject of Ford recall notice 14s05. The vehicle was serviced by dealer to address this recall and the dealer performed a "software update" to correct the issue. "the update allegedly would make sure the suvs wouldn't lose power steering while driving and would provide audio and visual warnings if problems occurred. If a driver received warnings, they were told to return the vehicle to the dealer. " the audio and visual alerts did not occur and the power steering system failed leaving only manual unassisted steering, making operation of the vehicle unsafe.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. Well maintained, always taken in for any and all repairs/maint/recalls. Recall # 14s05 was attended to in 2015 , by way of reprogramming. After this "repair", we complained of loss of steering radius, was told that was not possible and that it was fine. Fast forward to January of this year, wrench light comes on, no power steering at all. Our dealership says it is the same item as recall and should be fixed by Ford corp. Ford corp said no, since its 7 years old. The law says 10 years from recall or purchase. . Because they reprogrammed it, they may not be responsible for any thing else that goes wrong, even if it is the same issue. A known issue. Very unsafe, and not something the consumer can damage on their own. This will cost us between 500 to 2,500 dollars to repair. Seems that a known problem should be covered for more than a year out from the recall. It failed six months after the recall was closed, which was only open for a year. The loss of ability to steer was tremendous . Almost impossible. Not safe to drive, as the effort required steer would prevent the ability to avoid a situation completely. My vehicle is useless at this time. The open investigation dp15001, shows what a true problem this is . Very dangerous. Many people are having this failure while actively driving. It would appear that Ford needs to re address this issue. My vehicle repair light came on while driving. The failure occurred after I had parked and turned it off. Once I restarted the vehicle, I had lost all power steering . I was 60 miles from home, so I was forced to drive it in that condition.

4 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

May 2014 recall involved the power steering control module and torc sensors that could cause loss of power steering making it difficult to steer. I had been noticing slipping in my steering wheel with slight pulling to opposite side. It happened in straight driving condition such as interstates but seemed more noticeable as I was navigating a curve. I took it to my Ford dealership with a recall notice I had and told them I was having these problems and concerned. They checked it out and told me they had reset a power steering control module and sent me on my way. It seemed alittle better at first but then started noticing again same problem. 10 month later I totally loss my power steering while driving home with my family. It became difficult to steer and I almost hit a truck coming around curve. Took it back to my Ford dealership was told torc sensor gone out and Ford service department says call recall hot line staying they felt should be taken care of under recall since I had been in with it before and torc sensor was part of recall. I call hot line set up case and was denied by Ford saying at the time of service during first recall visit I made they had found no defaults so they only reset power steering control module and closed recall out on my escape. I am outraged that Ford did not take into consideration their on certified mechanics and staff who advices me that this problem should have been detected and fixed with my visit that I had been having problems. Instead this continued to escalade until I totally lost power steering that could have caused wreck and ending badly. I feel Ford has taken recall efforts as cheap as possible with resetting these power steering control modules rather than taking extra steps in replacing torc sensors that were part of.
