The vehicle was parked in the drive way and caught fire at 2 in the morning.
The rear lower trailing arms that hold the rear axle in place are made too thin and with corrosion will fail. This will cause the rear axle to move backward and break the drive shaft.
1997 Ford Expedition spontaneously combusted in target parking lot about 2 hrs after the driver parked it there and went in to work. The aft area of the engine compartment, the front driver and passenger seating area and most of the back seats were melted and burned. The fire was put out by denver fire dept. Sounds much like many internet reported issues with "Ford Expedition cruise control switch fires".
While driving down the highway a normal speed the spare tire on my Expedition fell off when the cable holding the tire up seemed to have broke. My vehicle ran over the tire and I could see the spare bouncing wildly down the road. Fourtnately, no other cars hit the tire but it was extremely close since a car just passed from the other direction and there would have been no way they could have missed the bouncing tire in the oncoming lane. Ford does not know how close they came to killing innocent people. The road was smooth without bumps, the tire just fell off. To my knowledge, we have never used the spare tire on this vehicle.
Feburary 28, 2011 I purchased a 97 Ford Expedition. I drove the truck for one day and on March 4, 2011 I parked the truck under the garage around 8:30 a. M. And around 10:45 a. M the truck caught fire under the hood on the drivers side by the time the fire was put out . The whole front end was burned up.

I just purchased a 1997 Ford expadition, I only put 3000 miles on it and one of the spark plugs blew out of the head. I called Ford and the said they have no records of any problems like this. After doing a little reserch on the internet f150online. Com I found that this is a common problem. I cant afford to replace the head, Ford should be made to aknowledge that they have a problem. Dave.
Engine check light is on, rpm's are at 0. 5 and when I come to a near or complete stop the vehicle shuts off. When I took the vehicle to midas, there were 3 other Expeditions, same year and near mileage as mine with the exact problem.
Brought vehichle to dealer 5 times everytime more things went wrong problem,s never corrected now vehichle attemting to start itself with nobody in it vehichle completely inoperable. No safety defect listed in summary.
Noticed odor/burning when in contact with rear deck carpeting due to being saturated with battery acid.
Check engine light constanly comes on since new.
