Since purchasing the Expedition in December 2014, I've had several incidents of "check engine throttle" warnings and the engine shut down, suddenly. This seems to also have a secondary issue of the truck hesitating/sputtering around 40-50mph. The vehicle has shut down on me in city traffic quite a few times and once on an exit ramp of the highway. This is a very dangerous situation to experience. The dealer mentioned possible spark plug issues. When the "check engine" icon finally came on, I had it read by the dealer and an independent mechanic. The code is a p2104. The dealer never got back to me on a remedy for this. The mechanic says the electronic throttle control must be replaced and could be the cause of both issues. Both have been reported to the dealer before their warranty expired. I'm finding the repair could cost about $700. An issue of the engine shutting off, regardless of speed, while driving is very dangerous. The truck must be placed in park, turned off, the re-started before continuing my drive. The scariest was upon an exit ramp of the highway at approximately 30mph.
I have six kids and when your driving and your car shuts off going 50-60 miles an hours and gives you a message fail safe message, that's pretty scary. I fixed the throttle body sensor once and now have issues with the same issue. I have looked into this and surprised that there are not recalls. This is one expensive fix.
I was driving on the freeway at 60mph and the engine shut down and showed "check electric throttle control". I was not able to pull to the side. The truck worked fine after I restarted it. This has happened 5 times. We were lucky that nobody hit us on the freeway. Throttle body needs to be replaced. 3 different mechanics and 1 electrician said this a defect and they see it all the time with this engine.
While driving along at 55 mph engine shut down. No power brakes, steering, etc. Indicator message on dashboard said "check electronic ignition". Repair cost $ 724. 19.
I filed a complaint in oct (10355191) requesting info on vehicle shut down. It happened again this week while my wife was driving to work.
Our 2005 Ford Expedition eddie bauer exhibits the same symptoms as were reported today regarding "camshaft position sensor on Ford 7 ltr engines 1997-2003 - engine shuts down while driving forward , at variable speed: very slow to highway speeds. Will restart on first try after coming to complete stop. Message panel shows "check throttle linkage" or similar. First occurred around July 07 second time took truck to Ford dealer Aug 11 - they were unable to reproduce problem after testing for several hours (at least that's what the charge said). One month later it happened again, has now increased intermittent to once every 2-3 weeks. Incident dates start approx July 2007 through yesterday 12/05.
