3 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2003 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 04/20/2003

A recurrent and unsolvable problem with the power exterior mirrors on a 2003 Ford Expedition. The passenger mirror is incapable of returning to its pre-set position. This occurs whether or not the "reverse aid" feature is on or off and also occurs whether or not the "memory" feature for driver 1 or driver 2 is activated. It occurs roughly one-half of the time the vehicle is unlocked even by the same driver (driver 1) in succession. Due to the Ford installed alarm feature, the unlocking fob (or the door mounted keypad) must be used. Each triggers the mirror failure. Two dealers have been unable to resolve the problem, even after multiple visits, having the vehicle for several days in succession, and having the available Ford technical service bulletin brought to their attention. Ford motor company (on letterhead correspondence) now denies that any problem exist with my vehicle (after detailed telephone and written correspondence). Two neighboring acquaintences with the same year and model vehicle have experienced the same failure without resolution as well. Multiple postings on the ntsha website make reference to this same problem and speak of Ford's "promise" to resolve. This is a serious safety defect. Either a solution to remedy the problem should be provided by Ford or the vehicles shoudl be recalled and a mirror system that has been proven to function properly should be installed.

6 Rearview Mirror problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/01/2002

Both driver and passenger mirrors have reflective coating pealing off the mirrors causing some distortion in the mirror when sunlight reflect in mirrors. Manufacture contacted and reffered back to regional warranty service. Car milage beyond warranty would only cover portion of replacement cost. Reject offer from regional. My opinion a saftey item due to manufacturing flaw should be charged to manufacture. Rejection of this deal may cause the full cost to be to me.

7 Rearview Mirror problem of the 1999 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

Mirrors - they've been replaced twice for the same problem. Both left and right mirrors develop black streaks, which makes hinders my viewing ability, especially at nighttime. It just tarnishes on its own. The first pair were replaced 6 months after purchase. According to the dealer, it is common in mirrors with built-in light signals. As far as the a/c is concerned; ever since I purchased this vehicle, it gives off this bad odor (musty smell) as soon as the a/c is turned on. The dealer re-conditions the ventilation system each time I take my vehicle in for service. According to them, along with two other dealers, it's common in Ford vehicles.

12 Rearview Mirror problem of the 1997 Ford Expedition

I am under 5'. The ability to see using the sideview mirrors is nearly impossible. During daylight hours, I weave my head back and forth, looking through the high seats. However, night driving is a terror! the sideview mirrors--regardless of positioning, do not give a clear view of vehicles or headlights. Further, since it is dark, if a car is a dark color it can not be seen! my husband, who is 5'8" does not have a problem. Thank you for listening.
