1 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2020 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 12/28/2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? apim issues causing gps, bluetooth, radio, settings and camera to mess up. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? getting lost on the road without gps. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? the vehicle has been to a Ford dealership. They were able to recreate the issue. They state the apim is bad. We had to have the apim reset with less than 9k miles on the vehicle. They are now saying resetting the apim is not resolving the issue. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, this started about 2 months ago. We were just able to get the vehicle looked at this week.

Back up camera stays lit after putting the car in drive. After 30 seconds or so it goes off and the screen goes black. You cannot push any buttons on the screen, related to the radio or climate controls. Ford doesn't know how to fix it because its not a "major issue" what a joke.

4 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2019 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 03/10/2023

The car’s touchscreen and buttons on dash and steering wheel stop working sporadically. You can’t control the volume of the radio, hang up/answer calls, control the air conditioning, gps is wrong on the map, etc. Sometimes the screen is completely blank and/or unresponsive. It is very dangerous as well when the back up sensors and camera don’t work.

8 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2012 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 11/14/2022

Metal corrosion on the back liftgate is allowing water to leech into the electrical connections to the back camera, causing it to intermittently not work leading to complete failure eventually. The service techs at the Ford dealership have described this common problem with this year model Expeditions and is due to a chemical problem either with the metal or factory paint or both. Corrosion is not due to rust. We bought the car new in late 2011.

10 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2015 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 09/01/2021

1. Backup camera giving a static picture and most of the time is showing black. Sometimes it works as intended. I know there is a recall out for this on newer Ford Expeditions. 2. Cannot see low objects directly behind the vehicle. 3. Problem has not been looked at by a dealer or service center. 4. Problem has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. 5. Sometimes the message comes up backup camera not working. This has been going on for the last 8 or 9 months. This problem is very intermittent and works for weeks at a time and then reappears.

11 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2017 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Back up camera- works intermittently. It becomes blurry, fuzzy, multi colored lines, and sometimes goes blank. Can cause issues with backing into a pedestrian or other obstacle. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealer because of intermittent frequency. Has not been inspected either due to intermittent frequency. Took it to dealer to have it looked at, they said there was nothing they could do because of no recall issued on that specific vehicle.

12 Sensing System Camera problem of the 2016 Ford Expedition

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

The rear backup camera has failed 5 times, the last time after only 7 days. There is a recall out on this problem on other Ford vehicles (I. E. F150, Expedition, etc. ) but not my model year. This is an extreme safety issue as it makes the vehicle unsafe to backup. The blind spot with the extended length edition is probably about 20 plus feet using just the mirrors. I've repeatedly contacted Ford customer service and the dealer, and it has yet to be resolved. In some cases, the Ford customer service person stopped communicating with me and closed out the open case without notice or action to resolve. In one case they wanted me to pay for more than half of the cost without any assurance that the problem was understood or a fix in place. The dealership has investigated several times and determined that the problem is not with the wiring or the display, but with the camera. The issue appears to be with the design, manufacture, or failure of the components used not suitable for the environment (temperature, humidity or vibration). The fear is that someone will be injured, or a fatality will occur, at a minimum damage to other property and the vehicle. This is an untenable situation. Thank you for reviewing this and hopefully escalating this to the level of a recall. I'm sure based upon the review of other complaints on the internet that I'm not the only person with this safety issue.
