Six weeks ago my transmition start jumping when it shifted gears. The Expedition only has 82, 212 miles on it. I took it to a mechanic and he ran a diagnostics test and got a code p2701, which is a transmission problem. He said the transmission was bad and needed to be replaced or rebuilt. I took it to a second mechanic and he said the transmission was failing. He suggested replacing the transmission fluid and filter first to see if that fixed the problem. Had him do a full transmission fluid and filter replacement. That did not fix the problem. It has gotten worst and now jumps and hesitates when shifting gears all the time, which is dangerous. Called the local Ford deliver and they said there were not any recalls and there was nothing they could do under any warrenties. They also stated they were aware there were problems with this transmission but there was nothing could do without a recall from Ford. They said they could replace the transmissin for around $8000-$9000 dollars. I have done some research and found a number of vechicles with this transmssion has the same problems with the transmission jumping and hesitating. This is a very dangerous problem and could cause a diffinite safety problem and even cause a wreck and potentially cause serious injuries or even death with this problem. Ford needs to issue an immediate recall for all these transmitions.

We have a 20018 Ford Expedition platinum, 2wd (rear wheel drive). Bought brand new. For the past month we've been having what seems like transmission issues. Car has 45,000 miles on it. A few times a day the transmission fails to shift at all; essentially goes in-between gears, revs high, but absolutely no movement. Usually soon after moving from a start, so maybe 2nd to 3rd gear or 3rd to 4th gear. It happens without any warning. Has nothing to do with the care being hot or cold. It is very scary because one of the times, I had pulled out from a gas station onto a highway, accelerating normally to keep up with oncoming traffic with I lost all power to the wheels. Engine continued revving. There was no tire slipping - just no movement whatsoever. Took it into the Ford dealer (golden circle Ford) in jackson TN where they evaluated the vehicle and found nothing wrong with it. They apparently put it on the computer and drove it; and were unable to duplicate the problem. They gave me a ridiculous explanation that the vehicle is 'learning' (aka "adapting") to my driving style and that it was normal behavior. That was last week. Since then, the shifting between low gears has become someone rougher/ with some hesitancy. I did research these vehicle and apparently there may be an issue with the 10 speed automatic transmissions now being used in the f150 trucks with many people describing similar transmission problems. I just wanted to let you know that there is a potential issue, that can also be very dangerous if the car stops moving in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic. Thank you.

2001 Ford Expedition with less than 52,000 miles on it lunged forward at a stop sign and then would not go when accelerator pedal was pushed. Finally went as I entered the freeway with lunging and DE-acceleration for about 15-20 miles. As soon as I got off the freeway the vehicle lunged forward and then locked up. I escaped being hit 2x by trying to pull over. I limped to my destination of a block and ended up having to have truck towed to a local dealership only to find my transmission had failed. Cost me $3791 for what I thought was a new transmission as quoted by the dealership; when I picked it up, it was a rebuilt transmission, not what we agreed on. Secondly, I had a service extended contract for 72 months or 100,000 miles which the dealership failed to remind me about. Nor did Ford when they know I was 2. 5 hours away from my home offer any help to get home, rental car or even a loaner. I was without transportation for an entire week. Reading about this transmission it has been a problem for years with no recall - this is a serious defect.
1999 Ford Expedition-perfectly maintained. 37000 miles on odometer-transmission blow out. Just all of a sudden, almost got into an accident due to loss of power. This is the second Ford vehicle owned that had a transmission failure! first one at only 8000 miles! under warranty for that one. Ford will do nothing to help with this problem. Will never purchase another Ford again!.

2001 Ford Expedition transmission 4r100 failed at 44,000 miles. Transmission "locked up" while driving on the highway at 55 mph. Total replacement needed. Total cost $3200. Numerous service bulletins issued on this model transmission. This should be considered a defective and dangerous product and a recall should be made. Ford needs to take responsibility.
After taking my 2000 Ford Expedition for a routine transmission service and brake job at al packer west in royal palm beach, FL, the transmission went out approximately five to seven miles from the dealership where it was serviced. I had it towed back to the dealership. In order for them to repair it, I was told I would have to pay $529 after I had just paid them #300 for the routine service and brake job. I live 35 miles from the dealership, and drove having no problems with the transmission. When I picked it up; however, my transmission failed. After researching with other mechanics, I feel that it was their error and their products liability insurance should have covered the expenses.
Complete transmission failure. Ase/aaa repairman found one missing and all other bolts securing valve body backed out and holding by a few threads. This after total warranty rebuild by Ford dealer @ 14,972mi 8/18/98. I had returned vehicle to same dealer with transmission complaint @ 53,382mi 5/10/01. Wouldn't test on n/c basis and wouldn't test drive. Ford refuses assistance.
