60 problems related to accelerator pedal have been reported for the 1998 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
All three rivets came apart on gas pedal while driving on the freeway. (dot number: vhdl tiresize: p235/75r15).
Ea99001, while driving acclerator got stuck, causing vehicle to suddenly acclerate. Occupant had to turn off the vehicle in order to stop. It could have caused a crash. Dealer had to replace throttle body unit. Please provide further information.

The gasoline pedal on my 1998 Explorer separated from its mounting bracket, making it unsafe to operate the vehicle. Vehicle towed to dealer. Since failure occurred on new year's day, will not be able to contact dealer until 2 January 1999.
Gas pedal sticks when car is first started. Depressing the gas pedal does not activate the forward motion. Then the pedal engages and the car bucks forward, accelerating too quickly. This would be dangerous if the front of the vehicle were too close to a stationery object.
When accelerator is applied, it would stick. Mainly sticking when weather is cold. Have taken to dealer at least 3 times. Was informed if still sticking it was made like that.

After starting the vehicle then pressing on gas, gas pedal gets stuck. After a few seconds it releases itself and the vehicle speeds off faster than intended.
When getting in the vehicle to start and pulling off the gas pedal sticks, but when driving everything starts to work fine. Contacted the dealer for repairs, and the vehicle is still acting the same way when touching the gas pedal.

Throttle. Gas pedal started to stick--more pressure on the pedal doesn't cause the car to accelerate smoothly, waits a couple of seconds and then lurches forward.
While driving at 30 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated to 70 mph. Brake pedal was depressed to decrease speed but engine continued to rev although vehicle came to a complete stop.
Consumer called complaining about having problems with the accelerator pedal. Every time he tried to step on the pedal it got stuck to the floor. Manufacturer was contacted, and stated that this vehicle was not recalled, and did not have any warranty.
Throttle sticks particularly when cold. Similar to that of recall 00v422000 but Ford claims that this vehicle is not included in recall.
While traveling and when trying to depress gas pedal, pedal broke off. Consumer could not gain speed. Please provide further information.
While traveling 25 mph accelerator pedal broke off ,causing consumer to brake to stop vehicle. Please provide further information.
While driving approximately 45mph & giving vehicle gas, it would start to pull into the right lane only. Have taken to dealer for repairs at least 4 times for problem. It has been repaired once. Problem reappeared after tires were rotated.
Throttle became stuck while turning a corner , causing a loss of vehicle control. Vehicle ran off road, hitting items and a tree which finally stopped the vehicle.

When consumer went to step on the gas pedal the vehicle would not accelerate. Consumer states the gas pedal sticks requiring extra pressure which results in sudden accleration when the pedal breaks free.
