Vehicle stalls when accelerating from a stop while making a left turn.
After re-accelerating from a stop after appx 2 hrs driving at 60-70 mph the car hesitates for a couple of second then starts up again. It has occasionally stalled. This seems to occur more frequently in hot weather and doesn't seem to happen on trips up to an hour. I have had people almost go into me from behind due to it appearing that I am pulling away and then the car suddenly stopping with no brake lights visible. Also this usually puts the car in the middle of an intersection at a standstill.
When coming to stop vehicle intermittently stalls/ reverses and surges forward. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
Intermittently when the ignition key in turned on and when coming to a stop vehicle will suddenly surge forward . The dealer has repaired the vehicle twice prior to this incident.
Consumer had speed control disconnected. No parts available. Consumer contacted dealer and manufacturer.
Consumer was pulling into parking lot and the vehicle accelerated, jumped a curve down grassy decline and hit city hall's wall.
Recall work not able to be done due to lack of parts (99v-062). Mjs.
While parking vehicle, foot on brake, vehicle started to accelerate before consumer was able to shift gear into park. Vehicle took off and caused consumer to hit a wall. Dealer/manufacturer notified.
While driver waited to pull into a gas station with foot on the brake pedal, all of a sudden the truck surged and the accelerator went on full blast, causing driver to crash into a brick wall. The problem was reported to Ford. The vehicle is being repaired by a body shop.
When braking to stop, engine tends to accelerate. Requires excessive force on brake to ensure deceleration.
General description of event that occurred 27 separate times from 5/31/98 to 7/13/98; foot off accelerator preparing to stop. Foot on brake, engine begins to accelerate (generally to 2500 rpm while car is in drive). Brakes strain while trying to stop car. Engine remains at 2500 rpm until foot removed from brake, than engine returns to idle. If car is placed in neutral (automatic transmission) during event, engine will accelerate and maintain 5000-5500 rpm as long as foot remains only on brake. If foot is removed from brake or parking brake is applied, while in gear(drive, reverse or neutral) engine will decellerate and return to idle. During four separate visits to dealer, the dealer put 870 miles on car. The dealer could not fix or stated could not duplicate. The fouth visit of the car to the dealer lasted 46 days. Dealer had car for a total of 65 days from 5/30/98 till 9/1/98, when owner received a new car from another local Ford dealer. Nw Ford customer service rep. Agreed to replace car at no cost to owner. Owner received new car 9/1/98 from another local Ford dealer who took defective vehicle described above. Car dealer installed "flight recorder" on car during one visit and owner was able to record several events on recorder. Dealer reported to owner that the recorder verified acceleration, but not caused by computer. Dealer changed speed control servo on this visit (7/6-7/98). Event repeated on 7/10/98 and 5 more times on 7/13/98. Car returned to dealer for final time on 7/14/98 through 9/1/98. Seems similar to NHTSA action item ea99001 reported 2/23/99.
When accelerating from a stopped position, engine stalls. Only occurs after vehicle has stopped after being at highway speed for any length of time. Never occurs during city driving, but does occur frequently after I stop the vehicle after leaving the highway, then try to accelerate again. Two dealerships have looked at, but not been able to duplicate the problem. The throttle assembly was replaced because of a different problem.
Sticking accelerator pedal. Repaired four times and the problem returned after each repair within 60 days. No explaination is forth coming from the dealer or Ford.
Vehicle would stall while accelerating from a stop and also while in motion.
1998 Explorer caught on fire to a defect with the vehicle. The consumer received a recall regarding a possible problem with the speed control switch, which could cause a fire.
Throttle hangs in closed position especially when engine is at normal operating temperature. This condition began occurring shortly after purchase. (about 1500 miles). This same condition occurred on a 1994 4. 0 l. V-6 Explorer driven 34000 miles. Dealer was unsuccessful in resolving the problem.
When accelerating vehicle will stall, causing the engine to lose power for approximately 10-30 seconds, which could result in an accident. Dealer claims has no remedy for defect.
Consumer feels the recall on throttle body plate repair/notice is insufficient, feels that immediate repair should be done due to possible failure. (99m02) nlm.

Acceleration problem experienced with 1998 Ford Explorer ltd with sohc v6 engine. The vehicle has been into the dealer four times for this problem, and they said they identified it to Ford motor company. Ford replied that they were aware of an acceleration problem and were working on it. Kokomo auto word advised me to maintain a history of events while awaiting further information from fmc. This history was started after the vehicle had been in the shop three times for the same problem. The dealer worked on the vehicle, but has been unable to correct the problem, even after obtaining two "red box" recordings. One recording was "captured" by the service department personnel after they had kept the vehicle for a week. The other was when they put the "red box" in the vehicle for me to try and "capture" an event, which I was able to do. After they read the "capture" I had made, the service manager insinuated that it was my driving style that caused the problem, I. E stepping onthe brake after or during acceleration. When I reminded them they had also managed to record an event, no more was said about my driving style. The dealer requested I use a specific brand of gasoline, which I did, to determin if that could be the problem. The problem has occurred eighteen times since Dec. 23, 1998.
Throttle body failed. Yh.
When coming to a stop engine raced to extremely high rpms, consumer had to apply both feet to brake pedal to gain control of vehicle, cause unknown. Please give any further details.
When engine is first started in the morning it has a run away throttle until it warms up. Accelerates to about 2000 rpms and drops back to about 500 rpm. Vehicle is not put into any gear until after the engine warms up at which time it idles smoothly.
