general problems of the 2000 Ford Explorer - part 1

The contact owned a 2000 for Explorer equipped with definity dakota a/t tires, size: p235/75 r15 a/t (na). While driving 70 mph, the rear driver tire began to shred. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. A police report was filed. No visible injuries were sustained; however, a passenger in the vehicle required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where the insurance company stated that the vehicle was destroyed. Prior to the crash, the rear passenger tire experienced the same failure. The approximate tire failure mileage was 89,346 and the vehicle failure mileage was 89,870. The dot number was not available.

While driving 60 mph the rear passenger side tire deflated. The consumer inspected the tire and found no punctures. Please provide any additional information.

The goodyear was a replacement for the wilderness at recalled by Ford. That was done when odometer read 9,720. Just over 12% tread wear on goodyear. I believe all the goodyears are unstable as Ford has discontinued (in only 1 year) road hazard coverage on anything but the highest level of extended warranty.

Traveling home on the ship channel bridge from friends place when I heard a bang like something had kicked up, after which the vehicle started to move from side to side I proceeded to slow down at which time the tire began to shred. When I was able to pull the vehicle to the shoulder of the freeway the only thing left was the center part of the tire not a piece of the walls were on the tire. Pe00 020; consumer was traveling about 40mph on highway and had a flat tire, and and lost control/ vehicle flipped twice. There were injuries.

I was traveling on rt 7 at approx 40mph, that was below the posted speed limit because we had just expierenced a snow storm and the roads were not very clear. As I slowed down to better hear what was going on I had started to hear the sound a flat tire makes, so I pulled off at the next exit and saw that my tire was flat and called aaa. They had told me to report the problem because it was a firestone tire and it may be one of the recalled tires. I had my tires checked some time ago when the recall first happened but I was informed my tires were not part of the recall even though they were the wilderness ats. I feel there must be some kind of defect for this to happen because I am positive I did not hit anything in the snow so I don't know what else could have caused this to happen. Left rear firestone wilderness at tire dot 8xhl (no size given) has a crack that is 1" long and 1/8" wide, consumer states right rear tire has an indent and is worried this tire will burst.

The firestone wilderness tires were checked at the Ford dealership for the proper tire pressure, however later the consumer found out that they had been under inflated.

Original tires on a Ford, Explorer 2000, r15 dot 8xhl. While driving a rental vehicle, the left rear firestone wilderness at tire failed,the tire completely came off the rim. Consumer fishtailed, but was able to regain control.

On both rear tires there is visible evidence of cracks developing around the edges of the tread ,consumer can actually see cord . Five tires were replaced at owner's expense due to discovery of visible cracks and tread separation on both rear tires.

Firestone says this tire is not on recall list. It should be. Ford will take no responsibility. My question to the dealership was whether or not they knew about a problem with firestone tires at the time they sold me the vechile. The consumer denied reimbursement for faulty firestone tires, the consumer feels reimbursement is in order since the tires failed at only 1300 miles (firestone wilderness at). Nlm.

I own a new Ford Explorer with the "brand description" of the currently recalled firestone tire, although it did not have the code on the inside of the tire stating that it came specifically from the distribution location currently in question. Two weeks ago my right rear tire came completely apart. After much misinformation from Ford and firestone, channel 4 news took the story and helped get Ford to pay attention to my case. They agreed to pick up the car and replace all four tires for me. The day after the story aired on tv Ford (don mclean specifically) called and said that they had changed their minds and were no longer going to replace my tires because they did not come from that specific location. Still the tire seperated from my car and essentially making us aware that the problem does not exist solely with the illinois plant. I am a single mother of two little girls and Ford and firestone have gone back on their word leaving once again to drive a car with defective tires. I would appreciate your assistance and sincerely hope that you will take this seriously. People with that brand tire, with the "code" or not, should not drive their car. Sincerely, tammy haladwala. While traveling at 60 mph on a highway I experienced a sudden tire failure on a firestone wilderness at tire (p25570r16). There was a loud humming noise coming from the back of my truck just prior to the incident. After the tire failed I immediately pulled onto the shoulder and called Ford's roadside assistance. I was told that Ford would send someone out to fix the flat but they could not do anything with regards to replacing the tire. Pictures are available. Although there are no visible indications that the tire failed due to anything other than a manufacturing defect I am taking the tire to a local firestone dealer for observation. Vehicle was parked. Noticed cracks in left rear tire near/through treads & on casing where tread meets. Took to firestone retailer to have tires replaced & tires not on recall. Firestone, wilderness at, p235/75r15 with 11,000 miles.

After purchasing the vehicle new, we noticed vibration at high speeds. Ford service found nothing wrong with the Explorer. When the recalled was announced we had the local ntb tire company check the tires as the vibration had become very pronounced even before there was 1500 miles of the truck. Ntb recommended replacement of the tires. At our own expense, because the firestone company refused to look at the tires for 2 months (they were too busy and we had to be put on a waiting list) we had ntb replace the wilderness at tires with michelin tires. The vibration immediately ceased. The truck rides smoothly and we have had no more problems. Firestone refuses to discuss taking the tires back even though we explained the problem we were having. 5 firestone wilderness at tires p235 75 r15 were replaced due to mechanic inspecting that all tires were bad, consumer wants reimbursement.

I have had 2 flat tires since I bought the car in October. Both times I have had to pay to have the tires fixed. There were absolutely no objects or nails. . Etc in the tire. How many more flat tires to I have to have before they get replaced?( dot number: ).

Vehicle came equipped with firestone wilderness at tires, consumer replaced all four tires prior to recieving notice, upon recieving consumer checked serial # and discovered that his tire were not included in recall 00t-005, consumer request reimbursement.

One of the original firestone tires on the vehicle experienced a blowout while driving, vehicle swerved off the road almost hitting a tree, tire was not included in the recall (00t-005).

We replaced the firestone tires because my wife was not comfortable riding on them even though they were not recalled. . After replacing the tires, the goodyear service manager noticed the tread separating from the tires and brought it to my attention. . I took the tires to a firestone dealer and was told by the mgr. He could do nothing. Have called firestone but have not received a reply. . We hope the recall is extended bcause there a much broader problem than they are stating. .
