8 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2000

Had my tires checked at firestone but did not feel comfortable, did not see the tires myself. I felt very unsafe driving my own new vehicle, so I went to a place that my son knows the people very well. Goodyear. While the truck was up on the mount, I inspected the tires myself and had notice something on the sidewall facing the inside truck. It was on all the tires sidewall. And outer wall. Looks like cracking and peeling. Also the outer wall on the outside of the truck is turning a funny color. When I asked someone to look at them, a good friend, they said it was the belts ready to give way. The gentlemen at goodyear, was very concerned for my safety and that of my family. They replaced my tires of course I paid for them. They took the time to mark the reciept of the purchase with the damage of the tires. I then went to firestone and showed them, they told me it was heat damage and could not do anything about it. I then took them to where I had purchased the truck and was told that it was tire dressing and mold. So I preceeded to go to the corporate store where I was told that it was rubberized paint. My tires were and still are unsafe and have defaults. I believe that I am entitled to reimbursement for the 5 tires. I was not about to put firestone tires back on my truck. I would not have felt any better. ( dot number: 8xhl tire size: p235/75r15 ).

9 Tire Sidewall problem

10 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

Doring a routine inspection of the vehicle by my mechanic during the first oil change (3000 mi. ), he noted two (2) large bumps on the sidewall of the rear-right tire, seemingly indicating that the sidewall had separated from the tire at those locations. After showing the bumps to a shop employee named jerry at tyson's Ford, he suggested I take the vehicle to a firestone dealer to have the tire replaced. I did precisely that taking it to the firestone tire & service center by springfield mall. There the tire was replaced free of charge, but I had to pay the cost of labor. After mentioning this to a friend, I then became aware of what seems to be a very serious problem with this tire brand/model. I will be happy to provide any additional information that I can if contacted. ( dot number: tire size: p255/70r16 ).

14 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2000

Immediately after purchasing the car I noticed a large bulge in the sidewall of the l/r tire. I called the dealer and was told to go to firestone. I went to the firestone store in newark California and the mechanic pulled off the bulge and revealed a white element of the tire. The tire was replaced, but it was obvious then that the tire was defective and had manufacturing problems. ( dot number: tire size: 255/70r/16 ).

15 Tire Sidewall problem

Failure Date: 12/06/1999

On 12/6/99 about 10pm, as I entered curve of ramp into I-75 south the right-rear tire failed. The damage was on the sidewall near the tread/running surface. A gash extending about 1/3 the circumference of the tire was created. Although my tires are not from the decatur plant, I recognized the same or similar failure features as shown on television recently. My tires start with 8xhl. At that time the failed tire was replaced under my new vehicle tire warranty. Recently, replacemnet of others was denied on the basis that these tires are not covered by the actual recall at this time. I am certain that these tires are also unsafe. ( dot number: 8xhl tire size: p235/75r15 ).

16 Tire Sidewall problem

While firestone and even your investigation does not mention the "w2" firestone wilderness at tires, three of the four tires on our Explorer began to crack radially on the sidewall of the tire at the base of the tread! the firestone dealer here looked at them and said they could do nothing. The cracks range from approx 1/8" to 3/4"long and are worrysome to say the least. We replaced the tires on our own as we could no longer drive the car with any sense of confidence. This is the fourth Explorer we've had and have been quite satisfied them as a whole. We have retained the tires should anyone wish to inspect them. The cracks are very obvious. Thanks mark sanderson. ( dot number: w2 tire size: 235/75r15 ).

17 Tire Sidewall problem

During tire check, dealer detected that wires were starting to come out of the sidewall of lf tire, from the point where the tread met up with the tire. The vehicle only has 6600 miles on it. My tires (dot 8xhl) are not recalled by firestone, but I feel that this is irresponsible given the nature of this defect. I have changed all of my tires to a different brand at my own expense, but would like to be compensated for the defective tires and my replacement cost for the new tires. ( dot number: 8xhl tire size: p235/75r15 ).
