Two days after purchasing the light warning alert system started coming on. Check systems headlights warning comes on every month then the headlights will go out first the left them the right…Ford can’t fix the problem because they don’t know what and why this keeps happening. The lights have been replaced 4-5 times and reprogrammed. I have took it Ford dealership 7 times, and the last time I was told it can’t be fixed because Ford has to send an update for the electrical system… plus one for the back up camera going blue/black as well…. . They also have to send an update program for the other warning as well…. So no end to the problems to date….

2020 Ford Explorer st-about 55,000 miles. Dealer: preferred Ford in grand haven, mi. Issue is sometimes a multitude of warning lights would come on when traveling. They include shutting down the cruise control when in motion, the forward collision sensor would stop working, all wheel drive and hill assist lights would come on and stop working. This happens whether a short trip, 10-15 miles into town, or on a longer trip. Only way to potentially reset it was to stop, turn vehicle off for a minute or two and restart. Sometimes this worked and sometimes not. This is a safety hazard when operating on a roadway, usually at highway speeds, especially in winter road conditions or an occasional trip through the mountains to the southern states. Had a computer update, which cost $540. 00, still not solve it. Finally able to get into dealer with all warning lights activated. Dealer stated has to do with drivetrain. Now today (8-3-23), was advised by dealer a new Ford engineer internal service memo stated that is not the total fix. Total repairs cost is in/around $2000. 00. If Ford knows this is an issue and with the many Ford Explorers on the road today, this needs to be addressed so the consumer can have confidence in driving their vehicles.
While driving on normal suburban roads, error messages appear on the instrument display every two to three days: 4wd fault service required, pre-collision assist not available, service advance trac. The check engine light or wrench icon appears on the instrument display, and the stability trac icon appears on the instrument display. When this happens, the adaptive cruise control does not function. Safety of the vehicle and driver are impaired by major safety system(s) do not function, such as the stability control and the collision avoidance feature. I have brought the Explorer in to one dealer one time, and another dealer two times. A repair to the half shaft speed sensor has been performed twice, however the problem still persists. This problem first appeared on the vehicle in July of 2022 at 44,000 miles.
April 5th 2022 I took my 2017 Ford Explorer limited to city Ford here in columbia city indiana because the steering was sticking. It had been sticking slightly at times for several weeks prior to this. They couldn't find any problem. So in June 2022 my wife and I load up and leave for virginia for vacation. The slight sticking got worse after several hours on the road, and finally the driver assist went out completely. Making it most difficult to steer. A dangerous situation. Also I had no hill descent, no 4 wheel drive, park assist, cruise control. A multitude of warnings. I took it to barton Ford in suffolk va. And was told it needed a rack and pinion steering which cost me over $3100. 00 and over $600. 00 for a rental during the time it took to complete the job. I noticed that I was charged for new bolts also. I researched and found that there was a previous recall on a select few of these Explorers due to bolt failure. My Explorer should have been selected, but there is no open recall on this Explorer. Barton Ford told me that my vehicle wasn't effected by the recall. I believe Ford motor company should reimburse me for what it cost me.

Our model is a platinum Explorer with the panoramic sunroof. Apparently there is a sunroof leak which due to the way the headliner is made , fills the headliner (holds like a bowl) then either spills out at the front of the vehicle or rear depending on going forward , reverse, accelerating, braking, uphill, or downhill etc. The front is worse because of the electrical in the overhead lights, sunroof motors, and lane departure at the rear view mirror. Also everything electronic below on the dashboard and center console. There are high expenses related to replacing these electronics due to water damage in addition to the driver being suddenly started by a wave of water crashing down on them while accelerating or braking.
Electric power steering failed without any warning. Ford had a voluntary recall, but as a second owner I did not get any notification. As vehicles are supposed to exceed 100k miles this is disturbing (like iphone battery fiasco). Electric steering is nearly impossible to drive and being this is a known problem with this vehicle and the fact it is the #1 vehicle currently utilized by law enforcement I find it odd there is not a mandatory safety recall for this issue. Thank you, chris miller.

I was driving and my power steering failed. The following messades appeared on my dash: terrain management system fault service advancetrac hill assist fault electric power steering failure. I was able to turn off the car and turn it back on again and the messages went away and my power steering worked again. A few days later, same issue occurred and the power steering never came back. Very hard to turn currebtly. I did some research and found that Ford had issued a recall for the same issue in previous years for the Explorer. I also found thousands of other owners had the same issue with the 2015 Explorer. Ford needs to step up and issue a recall on the 2015 Explorer for the power steering issue gefore someone is injured or killed.

Adaptive cruise control reads the overhead electronic posted 65mph speed limit signs as 85mph. This only occurs when traveling on I-670 eastbound between leonard Ave and I-270 on the east side of columbus ohio. . . This section of highway was recently upgraded with "Smart lane" overhead electronic signs. The dash on this vehicle shows the posted speed limit at all times, but if the cruise control is on the vehicle with automatically go to what it reads and in this case goes to 85mph! I have driven this vehicle over 5000 miles in 4 different states and this situation only occurs at this particular locatiion. I have contacted state of ohio, department of trtansportation and discussing this issue with drive ohio representative luke stedke ( luke. Stedke@drive. Ohio. Gov).

On two separate occasions while using the cruise control, the vehicle continued to receive warnings on the dash that the 4-wheel drive, hill assist, emergency braking, etc. Were all unabled and service would be required. The cruise control then also disabled and I was unable to use it again until I pulled over, stopped and re-started the vehicle. Upon doing this, the system seemed to reset and all warning lights went off. I contacted a local Ford dealer about this issue and was told that their loaner 2020 Explorer has the same issue and they're unable to pinpoint the problem. They've had it in and out of service for 4 months. Their machine is unable to find any errors. They feel like it may be something to do with the body control module. Since my vehicle is apparently not the only 2020 Explorer experiencing this issue, I thought it would be worth reporting.
Car jerks from 1st to 2nd gear and sometimes 2nd to 3rd. Also, very long delay when putting the car into reverse. Takes anywhere from 5-10 seconds sometimes to shift into reverse.
Went to the beach this past Saturday and as I was pulling into the turning lane for the state park and alarm went off saying drive assist control failure, and numerous things that no longer work, since then there has been no power steering and it was a miracle we got it home which was an hour and a half away, had this happened while going faster then I could of lost control of the vehicle, and I was going about 10 mph when it alarmed. The pictures show was alerts every time the vehicle is started now. This morning the steering wheel was near impossible to move so my girlfriend who drives the Explorer has to use the back up car that can't hold all of our kids.
Last night one of my hankook s1 noble on my 2017 Ford Explorer blew out while driving on the 405 freeway and required me to pull over and change the tire. At 21,000 miles on the vehicle/ tires the mechanic shop told me the tires were basically bald and had rubber evenly eroding (which indicates not an alignment issue). The tires were also rotated and supposed to last 50,000 miles. There are also many other complains on these tires throughout the internet but not recall has been initiated by hankook. They have advised they will give a pro-rated discount on new tires, which is completely unreasonable and negligent. .
While traveling with adaptive cruise engaged we were in left lane following a semi approximately 1000 ahead of us and when he moved over to make an exit our vehicle passed by and auto braked hard causing vehicles behind us to take evasive action from hitting us along with vehicles in the right lane of traffic. This also happened again the following week except passing by a dump truck. I was aware that time an mashed accelerator in time as instructed as per operating manual. I don't feel safe using my cruise with or without adaptive on and now several weeks later I'm getting an adaptive cruise not available message displayed on instrument panel.
While driving in wet conditions with the automatic cruise control enabled the vehicle pulls to the sides. Fords response is that the brand new winter tires are causing the slipping.
I have put my 2020 Ford Explorer platinum in the Ford shop several times because my cruise control has never worked properly. While using the cruise control it will reset to 85 mph whenever it chooses. This is a dangerous issue. Sames Ford dealership has looked at this issue 4 or so times with no fix. This issue needs to be addressed as my car is not the only one with this same issue.
