1 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem of the 2011 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

While driving at 35 mph going straight ahead, the car suddenly shifted into reverse, causing the vehicle to skid to a stop, this locked up the front and rear wheels skidding on the pavement. There was transmission fluid on the ground when it was towed to the dealership. Also the rear view camera came on at the same time so the occupants could see the car behind them, also indicating the car was in reverse. The transmission lever/handle was still in drive. I believe this was some type of electronic malfunction, but no warning lights came on, and on the computerized vehicle check it indicated no malfunctions, temporarily the hill assist light came on but went out shortly before the car was towed. The car could not be shifted into any gear, nor move forward or backwards. The front wheels were locked and skidding as it went onto the tow truck. The rear wheels moved at this point and it is a four wheel drive vehicle.

2 Automatic Transmission Floor Shift problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer

Failure Date: 04/30/2009

Transmission lever did not want to shift out of park. Eventually, it did release, but this has happened several times before. There are also times when shifting into reverse or drive it does not feel like the lever is fully "seated" into the correct position.

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

Transmission/differential/rear-end problems, purchased 2004 Ford Explorer XLT in March of 2006, first complaint was that the prndl indicator would not move into the right gear, reported the defect in may, problem stopped but then started again. Brought the vehicle back to the dealer and had to pay to get the problem repaired. But also found that the rear-end is shot the drive shaft keeps turning and the vehicle keeps rolling while in park. The vehicle also lurches when brake is depressed. Dealer states that the rear-end and differential is bad how can this be on a vehicle that has only 49000 miles on it .
